Modern Warfare 2 customization depth is 'ridiculous' photo

Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling has been in London recently to show off Modern Warfare 2, the latest in the stupidly popular Call of Duty franchise. While talking about the depth of customization options in the new game, Bowling said that hardcore gamers will definitely find appeal, and also stated that it was "ridiculous" in its optional freedom.

"The beta is really just the tip of the iceberg at this point, we're really just showing a little bit [of the game]," he explained. "There's a lot more to come, whether it be customizable kill streaks, custom death streaks, equipment like tactical insertion, Semtex grenades - all that stuff.

"What we're offering with Modern Warfare 2 is a ridiculous amount of customization. The lead-out is insane, you have all these attachments to choose from. It really caters to the hardcore gamer who wants to dive in deep."

Considering how much Activision is charging some people for this game, it damn well better be deep and full of customization.

It's great having all this customisation, but I somehow doubt that it'll all be balanced.

Can I customize the price back to sane PC game levels? No?

having a "ridiculous" amount of customization is going to be hard when you have to balance everything out. Unless we're talking about graphial skin customization.

You atill can't customize the MP characters right?
Would be cool if you could.
I know that each class and such has a different look but being able to edit those here and there would be nice.

Death streaks??!?!? That is frigging genius. God knows how many times I have been unable to take three steps without dying, now it looks like I might actually benefit from it! IW employs the best in the business. Or at least one of them is.

@Jon B - I'm sure it will be balanced. IW does not release games that have not been balanced. It may seem different in the beginning, but in the mettagame they have things well calculated and balanced.

@Chronic Logic I don't think it's that hard, RPG/RTS games have hundreds of combinations or even thousands. I don't think it's to far a stretch that COD:MW2 can manage.

In Borderlands case what do they say Millions.

Character customization plz? I don't understand why a game with so much emphasis on customization never had a way to change the look of my random multiplayer guy.

@ Retrofraction...come on...it's Activision. It's Bobby Kotick. OF COURSE there'll be a fee for DLC. This is the guy who eventually wants to charge $500 for a single EULA.

I won't buy it. Probably won't even rent it. The gimmicks...ERRRRRRRRRR..."perks" are a total turnoff for me, especially now that they're being extended to the n00bs as well as the elite.

And I really hope Bobby Kotick gets (insert incurable terminal sickness here).

Now that the game is 60 bucks for PC I am super excited to pirate this game and play through the awesome single player for free and then play co-op with my buddies over hamanchi. Saved 50 bucks I would have spent!

@Tarvu - your hard work is impressive, what was I thinking? You are so right it's so much harder to Highlight+CtrlC+CtrlV, these gaming gadget folks will freeze like deer in the headlights in anxiety over the amount of work it will take.

Stop being a downer and finding your happiness in the illusion that is you attacking someone else over STUPID stuff to make yourself feel important.

I'm thinking this refers to private games, and what you can change about them.

Turn grenades off? Sure. Turn off individual perks? OK. Ban certain guns? Why not. I can see all those and more being "private" rule set options.

What would be cool is if they had a game mode where you could have 3 teams.
