Modern Warfare 2 'care package' patch incoming soon photo

It appears that this care package glitch is causing quite an issue in the multiplayer of Modern Warfare 2.

If you've come up against a team using it, you know how annoying it can be. You're on a winning streak, kicking ass with your own skills and ability to shoot people, and then bam! You lose a match because someone is cheating. Aggravating at best.

This exact thing happened to Andrew Reiner over at Game Informer, so he went ahead and tweeted at Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling, asking him when it would be taken care of. Bowling got back in a flash, saying, "The Care Package Fix patch went to Microsoft for cert on Friday. Not too much longer before it's a thing of the past."

Hooray! Good to hear they're on top of it. That patch should be along in no time, or possibly a very long time. Microsoft cert is a bit pesky like that.

now please fix the fact that you can run around with 2 shotguns, and fire them with little to no recoil. I don't even think he-man could hold 2 damn shotguns 1 in each hand and not break his arms everytime he fired them. I mean...a little recoil would be nice.

So wait a minute you are telling me this game that gets more patches than Bonnie and Clyde's Ford still got higher scores that buggy but good games like STALKER and Boiling Point. Really makes you think about the integrity of game reviewers seeing that Modern Warfare 2 is a multiplayer centered game and the experience is butchered by so many game breaking bugs and exploits that ruin the experience that came with the games launch.

There are so many broken parts of this game....and 10 yr olds are taking advantage of it.

hope u ppl never play this game on PC, specially on the newest patch, believe me when i say that u don't want to meet a hacker there, is a paradise for them, you ppl trought than the aimbot/wallhack/speedhack was bad? that just the top of the iceberq now, the newest hacks allow these cheaters to have GOD mode (by switching to the spectator team) telefly( allow the cheater to move at pleasure with the ADSW/space buttons) TELEPORT (teleport ppl to you or to others) gravity ( for a better telefly) and infinity ammo, this with the originals aimbot/wallhack/speedhack included, when i was the victim of one of these hackers ( yesterday i think) i quit the game, and i won't play it anymore on infinite shit.net, no i will wait until the teckno gods console for dedicated servers is released ( 3-4 weeks at most from now on) shame that such a good game was ruined so hard on the PC

I must admit, Infinity Wards reputation is somewhat soiled with me. Sure there are millions of people playing it and the odds for shenanigans are increased. But the game has been a shambles with so many holes. The recent glitch has taken much to long to fix. Poor servcie for a $60 outlay.

Maybe M$ is also pissed at IW and are really scrutinising the latest release with a magnifying glass. This patch better be the golden.

@CrimsonDusk: Two things. First off, this glitch wasn't discovered until relatively recently (I'd say within the past couple weeks), and so how an unknown exploit should have figured into review scores back in November is sort of beyond me. Secondly, isn't the fact that Infinity Ward is taking care of things a good sign for its multiplayer-heavy shooter? Why are people complaining about this?

I couldn't have said it better myself. You can't review a game badly because someone else has broken it. I can't think of many 10/10 games that haven't had some glitch or exploit, especially in online multiplayer.

@Flake: What you speak of does not exist. The problem now is that with the advent of the Internet, the bugs present in games can ruin the experience for others, so they need to be fixed. Luckily, with the Internet, we can do that.

@Dexter345 Yeah and STALKER and Boiling Point also received patches that improved the game and made them stable, here they guy that played both of them and almost never had a problem. Bugs and exploits were found in Modern Warfare 2 since it hit the market, just check Youtube for Modern Warfare 2 glitches and bugs and you'll find videos posted since November. Don't get me started what a sloppy job the PC version was that it got hacked on the 15 of November because the developers were to douchebags to let console commands. This Bug is just another one from the many complaints it received but "reviewers" didn't notice them, wonder why. Or better check Enciclopedia Dramatica's article on MW2 and stop defending them, it's clear they did a rushed job and convinced reviewers not to reveal the fact multiplayer is full of bugs and exploits.

@Flake

That's pretty much impossible nowadays, there will always be some bugs that people will find. And the complexity of games of today mean that it will be impossible to catch everything, unless you happen to be selling simplistic games like tetris. Also, a decade ago, online patching was unheard of unless you happen to play games on the PC.
Darren Nakamura's Avatar - Comment posted on 02/07/2010 10:25

@CrimsonDusk: So, Encyclopedia Dramatica is now a trusted source for information? I think you're missing a major point here. If you sell a game to several million people, they will find bugs in your game. If as many people played STALKER or Boiling Point, then there would be YouTubes all over the place cataloging the glitches.

Given the conditions under which reviewers played this game, I don't see how you can complain about the scores awarded. I'm sure there were people on day one ruining the game for others, but the majority of people weren't exposed to it. A single game reviewer is not going to find all of the bugs in a game, and he shouldn't be held responsible if something like this care package glitch comes up three months after launch.

@Chronic Logic

A couple of unstable walls here or there. Maybe an unfair vantage point on a map over a spawn point or netcode that needs to be improved. These are understandable glitches. I'm talking about this kind of gamebreaking nonsense that happens over and over again. With the budget that this game had for development and the price tag gamers were expected to pony up, this game should be solid gold. The advent of patching games has made the developer community very sloppy, indeed.

@Dexter345 I'd say through all the snot and crap that Dramatica is they also cut through some of the bullshit and have the balls to say somethings other don't, just look at the Gamespot article on the site. Also some of the bugs there, like not being able to shoot through grass or infinite rockets, are just there to be found. Seriously some of the glitches I've seen are not some exploits caused by someone but just bugs that were there to be found. Especially some of the videos are taken from consoles so they couldn't use some hack, they just played and found the bugs.

That's just not normal to have a multiplayer centered game and have so many bugs that were not dealt with because they thought no one will notice them. Oh and how about the fact that they can fix them, doesn't that prove the game was a rushed job. At least STALKER and Boiling Point got the beating they deserved for the sloppy jobs they were and the patches didn't exonerate the games. MW2 has bugs that a million dollar company didn't bother to fix because they wanted to rush the release and hoped no one will find the bugs. Exploits that ruin peoples enjoyment, please. Bugs that are eventually found to an unstable coded game that was rushed so it got all the $$$ and didn't even got bashed for all the problems that it had.

To be fair to Infinity Ward and Microsoft, all of these glitches occur under fairly ridiculous sets of circumstances that probably would not have been discovered if it weren't for the historically high volume of users playing.

I'd like to take this opportunity to raise again Jim's erroneous prophesy that the PS3 would become a haven for cheaters (with particular regard to MW2) and that time has revealed the abhorrant lack of wisdom that was evident to some of us.

It's easier to use cheats on a PS3 that involve running other code or modifying game code than it is on a 360, his point still stands. Using cheats that are part of the game, unmodified, is not a fault of the platform.

I'm afraid I don't follow you. That one would lead to another was Jim's point but, as you see, one has not lead to the other; whether or not it is easier to cheat using modified code on PS3 (which I don't recall in his article), potentiality does not, has not, translate directly to actuality - and even - Jim's wisdom was very selective in judging what was relevant.

Am I the only one that's never run into this glitch? I'm not saying it doesn't exist, but I play this game fairly frequently and I've never seen this. Or the Javelin glitch before it got patched. The only "glitch" I ever really run into (at least that I'm aware of) is ten year-olds running around with Marathon, Lightweight, and Commando while holding the care package, knifing you from 20 feet away.

It's not even the glitches that really bothered me, the problem is that the game was released with balancing issues. How did the game testers not realize the Akimbo 1887s were so unbalanced? SMGs and LMGs are pointless given the range and damage of the ARs. It just seems like there are a lot of game design choices that weren't fully thought through and really drag the game down. I think someone posted this in the cblogs a few weeks ago, but it is worth posting again and highlights what I am talking about.

same. i've rarely encountered many people exploiting glitches. i hear it isn't as bad a problem on the ps3. i ran into someone using the javelin glitch once, and from time to time i'll encounter people using the care package glitch.

I blame the people playing the game. it's just the nature of assholes to learn and use exploits. they could easily be using that time to actually get good at the game.

I'm as miffed as the next legitimate player about the gamebreaking glitches, trust me on that one. But unlike other people, I'm grateful that IW is fixing this stuff instead of just letting it run rampant, a la Guerrilla and KZ2.

you cannot blame Testers on this because their job is to find stuff and report to devs/prodution on what is broken. you can't find every possible bug in a game and everything never gets fixed. Even if you find stuff like what is discussed here Devs can still say they "will not fix" and it could be for a lot of reasons, (not a game breaking bug, time constraints, just don't want to) and later on will make an update/patch to fix it then.

at least IW is trying to fix things...

I played some 3rd Person with friends last night. Out of the 20-ish games we played, we ran into care package glitchers (super speed AND infinite variety) in 5 matches.

We won every game and ridiculed them roundly after the games for cheating and still not being able to win.

Still, they gotta fix that shit.

I'm totally done with call of duty games now, it's all about MAG for me.

MAG has it's quirks and it's slight problems but they're not as exploitable and game breaking as MW2's, fuck this game, fuck activision - MAG pisses all over CoD.

This glitch is redonkulous.I'm seriously about done with COD.The fanbase is amazing but the dedication to them given by the workers is absoulte shit.People would give their right arm to play call of duty.Just look at how crazy the release was.Just look at how many copies it sold and how many lives and relationships have probably been ruined by it.And look what we fucking get. This shit has been out for a long long long ass time and theres is so much broken it looks a fucking junkyard.

I don't even know where to start. For starts this care package glitch is GAME BREAKING do you see the caps IW?Not bad,not annoying,GAME BREAKING for christ sakes. You made the damn game and we bought it we don't deserved to be fucking ignored or treated like this.Like I said before people love this game and it's amazing engine but when you have lazy ass workers that would rather eat a fucking sandwich counting the money rolling in,you slowly as a fan start to realize how "one sided" your admiration really is.Even though I hate Gears of War with a passion, you will hear Epic games say many times it's all for the fans. And their fucking right it is.Without us you are all just nerds without a job.Without us you are all just poor pathetic people. So do us all a favor and reap what you sow.If your crop goes bad spray some fertilizer on it don't throw sand over it and just say fuck plants this season.

I don't think I've ever cussed that much but this need to be said by someone.Someone who isn't afraid of IW someone who is a die hard FPS shooter and an unbiased man..

Another thing the rest of the game including maps, weapons, etc could have been so much better but that's for another day I just hope someone from IW sees my posts and tells the people in the office to fucking get to work, because you guys are going to ruin one of the greatest franchises in history.
