BioShock isn’t a game most people would peg perfect for mobile release. The game’s underwater dystopia has a pulse -- a steady throb powered by the fusion of unique atmosphere and narrative -- that seems impossible to capture on a lesser platform. Mobile developer and publisher IG Fun have taken the challenge of downsizing 2K’s masterpiece. There’s no doubt that the studio will be searching for a larger bank vault when the game finally releases, regardless of quality, yet there’s something funny about this mobile conversion -- it looks incredible.

Above is a trailer for the game that Pocket Gamer secured from a conference in Barcelona. A good bit of it is from a trailer shown at an expo in September, but there are a few seconds showing off new weapons and a different Big Daddy confrontation. The game is also slated to hit the iPhone, and might look something like this.

As Offworld points out, there’s no way of telling how the game controls. In regards to an iPhone version, this is a bit troubling. Considering the lack of a HUD, there’s a good chance that it will have accelerometer shenanigans. One can only hope that IG Fun doesn’t try to get too fancy.

Um...not to rain on a parade here, but did anyone else see an iPhone in that trailer? I saw a regular old mobile phone, but not Apple's new pretty thing.

I think the game would be better suited for regular phones anyway, since a not-on-rails shooter wouldn't work well in my eyes. Unless the actual area you looked at was way tiny.

I didn't see an iPhone. I did see some generic phone but no iPhone. I'm still skeptical about the ability to control complex games with no buttons. Call me a doubter.

I'm in the same boat as Xenocide. I've played Doom on my iPhone and it was poor to control. I don't have high hopes for this, but we'll see.

So, it still is coming for the iPhone then? ....hmm...

I want to see how they end up doing this, but my hopes aren't very high, unfortunately.

That phone showed there strongly resembles a Nokia N95 8gb. There's a 3D grpahics processor in it, and Quake 3 Arena has been ported to it and looks pretty good. http://tinyurl.com/awfqoy

That's an N95 which is a pretty damn capable gaming phone. The NGage 2.0 gaming platform is pretty cool, with gems like Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil.

It's just a shame that this phone doesn't have the developer support like the iPhone, cause it's got everything the iPhone has except buttons instead a touch screen.

Indeed, I have Quake 3 on my N95 and it runs incredibly fluid.

Also, in the video, that is a N95 8GB showing the game in play.

I'm not sure I understand this move. What is the motivation for porting it to any phone? Sure, you're looking at the success of the App Store and thinking "I've got to get me some that!" As far as I know, though, console games haven't done too well on the iPhone. Also, would the install base for something like a N95 or NGage be worth the effort?

Isn't that wide-screen footage at the end of the video for the iPhone version?

Scratch my last comment. I just compared it to the iPhone video on Offworld and the answer is most certainly "No".

Really a FPS shooter on a mobile phone and they went with Bioshock? Are they trying to saturate and dirty the Bioshock IP? Portal would have been a much better port for mobile devices.
