MMO documentary, Second Skin, available on Hulu photo

Second Skin is a documentary about MMO players. It lacks the pyrotechnics of a Michael Moore probe, but it isn’t a stale watch. The subjects of Second Skin are a fascinating group of uber-dedicated denizens of perpetual digital worlds. You’ll watch lives crumble, potential being realized, and see the disconnect addicted players have with the real world.

It’s not pretty, but it the film does allow you to draw your own conclusions. And now you can do that for free. Second Skin is available on Hulu with limited interruptions (thanks, Honda) for the next five days.

What are you waiting for? This thing is worth your time.

It was good. I already had a good idea about most of the stuff it covered, but it was entertaining either way.

pretty interesting. I especially liked the addict's quote about how crackheads had more of a life than he did.

luckily I'm too ADD to keep attention on MMOs for long, but it's always tragic when you see people like this. :[

Not bad so far, won't watch all the way through though.

Does anyone else hate the fact that all "gamers" are pretty much associated wiht MMORPGS?

I play games, I develop them to a certain extent to, yet the one genre of game that I find not only completely unfulfilling to play, but a boring "waste of time" would be MMORPGS.

The grind is what puts me off the most. If they could make an MMO that didn't involve power leveling, grinding, and used actual fun and functional gameplay systems that are truely interactive, I'd be a fan.

But yeah, that's the reason I don't like to say I play video games around people I don't know. Because either "that crowd" will want me to join their posse or I'll be associate with "that crowd"

I know there are tons of "legit" MMO players out there who don't obsessivly play it, and/or don't exclusivly play them, but still.

Very good watch. Although the "Addict" depicted in the docu was a dick. Pfft. He was the addict, he got hooked, not everyone is like him or the hardcore wowcrackheads and evercrackheads depicted within.

But still, good watch. I'd give it a 4/5.

I watched most of this, I say most because it got stuck at buffering at one point so I just gave up watching it. But it was very interesting and as an ex-WoW player that still keeps in contact with his guild, I know people that have gone through most of the situations they gave. I know the people that made and broke relationships up through the game. And I know people that have pretty much given up their life to play.

At one point maybe I was like that, but luckily I got through that stage when I was still in highschool, so it wasn't as bad. Coming from the inside out, it is sorta hard to give up the game. Its possible, but hard. However now I'm glad I'm done.

Sounds like Hulu is causing a lot of trouble, but at least you'll have the option to watch it on Netflix (or maybe even go out and buy it) on August 25th.

It might be nice to watch it on a bigger screen and see what sort of special features it will ship with...
