MLB: The Show: Quick Count, Player Lock make games faster

2:45 PM on 02.26.2014

If you want to be able to breeze through games more quickly, MLB 14: The Show has two new options. Quick Count starts off every at bat in an advanced count (3-0, 1-2, etc.), partly based on the pitcher/batter matchup. Not a bad option if you get fed up waiting for strikes or suck at taking walks.

Player Lock allows you to restrict yourself to acting as one player on the team, simulating any plays your player is not involved with. You can use it in any mode but Road to the Show, so if you want to run through a season as only your favorite player on a team, you can. Plus you get the more personal fielding perspective, which is fun.

Not sure how often I'd use these, but they're nice options. Fast Play presentation is probably my favorite, though, turning off extraneous presentation elements and giving you more playtime. It's why I liked MLB 12: The Show on the Vita so much -- it couldn't fit all the presentation elements anyway.

I really want the baseball season to start.

MLB 14 on PS4 is fastest selling in franchise history

I might've dug into MLB 14 on PS4 a bit for its slow load times, but that's the only slow thing about it. According to the PlayStation Blog, MLB 14 on PS4, "exceeded the previous marks for most preorders, most day-one sales, and most week one sales," and, compared to last year, week one sales shot up 40%. Oh, and what's with the Orioles being the most played team?more

MLB 14 looks great on PS4, but comes with load times slower than baseball

I was mostly satisfied with MLB 14 The Show's initial PS3 and Vita release. Hitting ahead of the PS4 version led to some (perhaps overdue) improvements, from the UI overhaul to PS3/PS4/Vita cross saves to a universal The Show...more

MLB 14 attempts to fix what bugs you in Road to the Show

Attempt. It probably won't. But good on them for trying when it's the only baseball game worth buying anyway and they don't have to do much to maintain its goodness. And I'm sure plenty time is being spent on the PS4 version...more
