Nintendo has released five Star Fox games since the series was introduced in 1993, along with Super Nintendo "Super FX" chip like it was the second coming. Problem is, it just hasn't been successful as Nintendo's other franchise, particularly in Japan.
Shigeru Miyamoto isn't going to stop trying. He loves Star Fox, he told MTV Multiplayer.
"Every time we make a Star Fox game, I'm hoping people will enjoy it as much as I do," he says. "Of course, the goal every time is try and make it more and more fun, but at least in Japan, the people that purchase the Star Fox games has decreased over the years. But we still try to make them more fun ahnd hopefully people will see the appeal in those games."
So there you have it -- even if you don't like Star Fox, Nintendo is going to keep making them until you do. Got that, Japan? There simply will be no end to Fox McCloud and his adventures, no many how many times you decide to spend your yen on dating and cat simulators instead.
At least that's what I gathered from an interview with the creator, and why he won't want to do more.
So, Shiggy confirmed for furry?
*shudder*
*Drools*
Miyamoto misses the connection between fixing a broken franchise and return of interest in that franchise I guess. Sorry Miyamoto but people aren't gonna randomally beg for a new Star Fox outta nowhere.
Seriously though, I'll take more Star Fox, if only to have more epic Star Wolf vs Star Fox battles!
I'd like to pretend everything after that never existed. But more Star Fox 64 would be fun.
Also, where's Kirby wii? that title is late enough as it is, even without delaying it to make a Star Fox game.
Yeah I don't think Kirby's had a real home console game since the Nintendo 64. Playing Super Stars Ultra made me want one on the Wii so badly because if they could just make one that's a decent length it would be great.
God I freakin love Starfox 64, awesome in so many ways. I thought the hold up was down to some beef between Shigsy and the original developer?
This series has totally lost its way recently but an on rails Arwing only affair on the Wii is such a no brainer, its a Goddamn perfect fit!
Make it happen Nintendo!!!!
Heck, there are days I still turn on my N64 to kill an hour shooting stuff. *happy sigh*
I agree, they need to stick to their roots. Keep it mostly on rails with a few more innovative levels and/or open levels just to mix it up.
All we need is another Star Fox that keeps you in the Arwing most of the time. I'd be all over a Star Fox Wii if it gets back to its roots.
Starfox Adventures was an alright game but a miserable Starfox game.
Starfox Assault had some fun levels but so much of it were garbage on foot levels.
Starfox Command could've been fun but it was filled with so many "DON'T MISS OR ELSE IT WILL SCREW YOU UP SO BAD YOU MAY AS WELL HIT RESET". Somehow they just sucked out all the fun of the Starfox 2 concept.
I'd love a Starfox Wii but please more like SF64 and not at all like the Gamecube and DS incarnations.
This is Nintendo's biggest problem. They do not engage with their audience to find out what game they want to be made. The no brainers that should have already graced Wii IMO, are Star Fox 5 or 6, more Pilotwings and Blast Corps, and maybe even do a Vortex sequel.
Unfortunately, Nintendo have largely lost their creative vision when it comes to games, because all I ever see them push now is Mario, Brain Training and Wii Fit. I think these meta type games has stunted their creative thinking. Nintendo once used to create cool new IP, and it breaks my heart to see them not doing that.
More Starfox would be great, Nintendo, but I want to see more connection with your fans, to keep you on track. I think a game featuring both free roaming and on rails sections would be cool (kind of like what Rogue Squadron did), to keep the flavour of the original but bring something new to it. Hey, maybe a game focusing on Star Wolf might be the answer. Throw in the above options, and some online play options and it could be awesome.
The on foot section of Star Fox were broken, because who ever made them, had little experience it what it takes to get sections like that right. Gaming has evolved a bit since then, so I'd like to see what could be done now, that the use of cover firing, better enemy AI, etc offers more tactical, fun gameplay.
And specially, SPECIALLY when it's not made by Namco.
Also, needs more F-Zero.
I rented Assault, and the flying sections were amazing, just the rest less-so. One of the things good about 64 was that you were always constantly moving. It was by definition an on-rails shooter, no matter what you were piloting. With Assault, the Landmaster and on-foot modes didn't have this, and there was even one level where you had to explore a fairly large building on foot. Kinda jarring given the franchise history. Excepting Adventures, anyway.
A lot of people hated Command simply because of the stylus controls. Yeah, I know that it'd be possible to put the controls on the standard +ABXYLR and all, but the games haven't done that since StarFox (or 2 beta). And isn't the 64 version precise because of the stick? The DS lacks one, and the screen was the best option. I've never failed the chase-the-missile missions because of faulty controls. And I liked how the game branched so much. Yeah, it's too bad that the entire game takes place in All-Range Mode, but it works all right. It's better than Assault's "here's a linear route for you to follow every time you play the game" which breaks the old SF formula.
But alas, it will never happen.
PS: Originally Adventures was not a Star Fox game at all but the characters were shoehorned in. And be honest, if it were not Star Fox characters not many people would have played it.
