Miyamoto wishes you'd like Star Fox as much as he does photo

Nintendo has released five Star Fox games since the series was introduced in 1993, along with Super Nintendo "Super FX" chip like it was the second coming. Problem is, it just hasn't been successful as Nintendo's other franchise, particularly in Japan.

Shigeru Miyamoto isn't going to stop trying. He loves Star Fox, he told MTV Multiplayer

"Every time we make a Star Fox game, I'm hoping people will enjoy it as much as I do," he says. "Of course, the goal every time is try and make it more and more fun, but at least in Japan, the people that purchase the Star Fox games has decreased over the years. But we still try to make them more fun ahnd hopefully people will see the appeal in those games."

So there you have it -- even if you don't like Star Fox, Nintendo is going to keep making them until you do. Got that, Japan? There simply will be no end to Fox McCloud and his adventures, no many how many times you decide to spend your yen on dating and cat simulators instead.

I wasn't a huge fan of the original, but I enjoyed playing the beta of Starfox 2, and I absolutely love Starfox 64. I even tolerated Assault on the GameCube, even though it was abysmally short.

Wasn't the problem with StarFox is that some people *cough*furries*cough* loved it a bit too much?

At least that's what I gathered from an interview with the creator, and why he won't want to do more.

Maybe if Fox butt stomped goombas in the next game it'd sell. I'd be all over that shit.

Wasn't Miyamoto the one that raped the franchise by demanding that Fox should walk outside his cockpit? Yeah I think it was.It bit backwards there, then again Japanese often confuse rape with love in their games.

Maybe if the Starfox games would stick to their roots and play like the SNES and N54 versions people would buy them.

I always thought Adventures was decent. After that though it's all bleck. 64 is still top notch hot barrel rolling action.

Miyamoto misses the connection between fixing a broken franchise and return of interest in that franchise I guess. Sorry Miyamoto but people aren't gonna randomally beg for a new Star Fox outta nowhere.

Starfox 64 totally kicked ass and still does, as far as I'm concerned. I have no problems firing that up on the Wii and spending a few hours wanting to smack the shit out of Slippy.

I'll take more Star Fox 64.

I'd like to pretend everything after that never existed. But more Star Fox 64 would be fun.

Also, where's Kirby wii? that title is late enough as it is, even without delaying it to make a Star Fox game.

Yeah I don't think Kirby's had a real home console game since the Nintendo 64. Playing Super Stars Ultra made me want one on the Wii so badly because if they could just make one that's a decent length it would be great.

I used to love those old Nintendo franchises like Starfox, but I'm not the one neglecting them. The strangest part is that it's perfect for the Wii, but has been largely ignored by Nintendo. So Miyamoto can say whatever he wants, I stopped caring a while ago.

The original was great, each one thereafter was a drop in quality. Now Star Fox is a lifeless husk, painted up to look new & pushed out to the marketplace. It's the videogame equivalent of Weekend at Bernie's.

God I freakin love Starfox 64, awesome in so many ways. I thought the hold up was down to some beef between Shigsy and the original developer?

This series has totally lost its way recently but an on rails Arwing only affair on the Wii is such a no brainer, its a Goddamn perfect fit!

Make it happen Nintendo!!!!

After Star Fox Assault how can he blame the public for not wanting more Star Fox? Honestly, those foot missions made me want to shoot myself. Return SF back to former SNES/N64 glory and bring it back to being a straight up on-rails shooter!

Heck, there are days I still turn on my N64 to kill an hour shooting stuff. *happy sigh*

Honestly, I've only purchased the original. I rented 64. Both were amazing. In fact, I still bust out my SNES to play the original Starfox every once in a while. I can still only beat the easy track in that game... Also, I've always been curious about the DS game. It has fairly mixed reviews, so I never picked it up.

I agree, they need to stick to their roots. Keep it mostly on rails with a few more innovative levels and/or open levels just to mix it up.

Star Fox would do fine if they would pare down the cast back to the original team and go from there. Krystal should have been left back on Dinosaur Planet.

Star Fox 64 was brilliant. Nothing has been as good since then. Those tin cans (Adventures, Assault) are no match for me.

All we need is another Star Fox that keeps you in the Arwing most of the time. I'd be all over a Star Fox Wii if it gets back to its roots.

Old school star fox was a niche that has not yet since been filled. Sin and Punishment 2 is similar if you strip the entire game down to its bare bones gameplay but nothing can compare to flying in an arwing. It was especially awesome in SF64(I think it was here) where foxes dad appears to save your ass and then you find out its just a phantom. That was particularly an awesome moment.

The good thing about Lylat Wars is that I can always go back and play it and never be bored. I recently received Star Fox: Assault a a birthday present. I have to say, although it's a little clunkier, I'm rather enjoying it.

The reason Star Fox has been doing so terribly is because Miyamoto is going about the franchise in the wrong way. There hasn't been an internally developed Star Fox game since Star Fox 64, which was the last amazing one. Adventures, Assault, and Command couldn't hold a candle to those. Another problem is Miyamoto claiming that Star Fox is a game that shouldn't only comprise of flying. Uh, hello? Assault's on-foot missions were the lamest thing EVER! Until they make a true sequel to Star Fox 64, that involves FLIGHT combat only, maybe even a strategy mode like what Command had, and 4-player co-op/multiplayer/online battles, Nintendo won't have a winner on its hands.

I don't think any of the Starfox's post N64 have come close to Starfox 64.

Starfox Adventures was an alright game but a miserable Starfox game.

Starfox Assault had some fun levels but so much of it were garbage on foot levels.

Starfox Command could've been fun but it was filled with so many "DON'T MISS OR ELSE IT WILL SCREW YOU UP SO BAD YOU MAY AS WELL HIT RESET". Somehow they just sucked out all the fun of the Starfox 2 concept.

I'd love a Starfox Wii but please more like SF64 and not at all like the Gamecube and DS incarnations.

I'm a Starfox fan, good old Starwing and Lylatwars eh. I liked Starfox Adventures but it was a different approach to the series and was aimed at a younger audience, but still a good game. I haven't played Starfox Assault...yet.

I love Star Fox but it needs to remain about piloting an Arwing and shooting things, this series does not lend itself well to action adventures or on the ground 3rd person shooters.

I agree, NukaCola

This is Nintendo's biggest problem. They do not engage with their audience to find out what game they want to be made. The no brainers that should have already graced Wii IMO, are Star Fox 5 or 6, more Pilotwings and Blast Corps, and maybe even do a Vortex sequel.

Unfortunately, Nintendo have largely lost their creative vision when it comes to games, because all I ever see them push now is Mario, Brain Training and Wii Fit. I think these meta type games has stunted their creative thinking. Nintendo once used to create cool new IP, and it breaks my heart to see them not doing that.

More Starfox would be great, Nintendo, but I want to see more connection with your fans, to keep you on track. I think a game featuring both free roaming and on rails sections would be cool (kind of like what Rogue Squadron did), to keep the flavour of the original but bring something new to it. Hey, maybe a game focusing on Star Wolf might be the answer. Throw in the above options, and some online play options and it could be awesome.

The on foot section of Star Fox were broken, because who ever made them, had little experience it what it takes to get sections like that right. Gaming has evolved a bit since then, so I'd like to see what could be done now, that the use of cover firing, better enemy AI, etc offers more tactical, fun gameplay.

I love Star Fox. When it doesn't suck. And when it's at least 10 years old. And when a talented team makes it. And when it focus on what's important abouth the series: Level design and replayability. And when it's not about flying in circles in a plain shooting stuff aimlessly while engaging on a sub-par strategy game of reach-the-flag.

And specially, SPECIALLY when it's not made by Namco.

@Cowboy TTop: I love you just for mentioning Blast Corps. Though wasn't that a Rare game?

Also, needs more F-Zero.

I rented Assault, and the flying sections were amazing, just the rest less-so. One of the things good about 64 was that you were always constantly moving. It was by definition an on-rails shooter, no matter what you were piloting. With Assault, the Landmaster and on-foot modes didn't have this, and there was even one level where you had to explore a fairly large building on foot. Kinda jarring given the franchise history. Excepting Adventures, anyway.

A lot of people hated Command simply because of the stylus controls. Yeah, I know that it'd be possible to put the controls on the standard +ABXYLR and all, but the games haven't done that since StarFox (or 2 beta). And isn't the 64 version precise because of the stick? The DS lacks one, and the screen was the best option. I've never failed the chase-the-missile missions because of faulty controls. And I liked how the game branched so much. Yeah, it's too bad that the entire game takes place in All-Range Mode, but it works all right. It's better than Assault's "here's a linear route for you to follow every time you play the game" which breaks the old SF formula.

The Starfox character set is, by far, the worst characters that Nintendo has created. They're farm animals with very generic personalities. I've wished for a while now that they would keep the Starfox concept and basic gameplay but add in a brand new universe with new characters and more maturity. I love Nintendo's happy and colorful nature, but this is one game that I believe could greatly benefit from a more mature edge instead of farm animals that talk.

But alas, it will never happen.

Maybe he should stop screwing them up then! I really just want an entire game that is like the first level of Star Fox Assault. I'd buy that game...twice! Star Fox would be such a bad ass four player coop game.

PS: Originally Adventures was not a Star Fox game at all but the characters were shoehorned in. And be honest, if it were not Star Fox characters not many people would have played it.
