It seems like Nintendo is upping the market research ante by sending designer extraodinaire Shigeru Miyamoto to Yahoo! Answers to ask, "How old were you when you first heard the term 'Nintendo', and what does the name mean to you now?"

The answers, all 2,600+ of them, are naturally varied and run the gamut from, "It means childhood," to "It means awesomeness!" with a healthy mix of, "It means that kids are lazy and stupid today," thrown in. Most of the responses are overwhelmingly positive -- what a shock.

I'm not sure what Miyamoto hopes to glean from these answers, besides emphatic confirmation that gamers are getting older (every answer starts off with "4 or 5 years old"). Perhaps Shiggy just wants gamers to tell him the exact thing that analysts have been saying, except less boring. Or maybe asking people about Nintendo's public image is more important that whether you like kittens or puppies better.

In any case, it seems that people have responded positively to Miyamoto descending the hallowed peaks of Mount Fuji to ask their opinions. I can only speculate about how he will use this information or whether or not we'll be seeing more questions from Yahoo! Answers.

So, answer Miyamoto to his e-face here, or just tell me in the comments.

[Thanks, Dean!]

It means a kickass comeback with a damn cool console but the worst goddamn online strategy in the developed world.

What does Nintendo mean to me? Great first party games that just can't be beat, lack of decent third party support over the long haul, decent consoles, and a management that loves to ignore the internet and what it's fans are saying.

Can somebody say "Friends Codes, and Online Multiplayer?"

What does Nintendo mean to me? Metroid and Fire Emblem (and SSB). That's what. Without that, I would play PC games 100% of the time rather than 97%. ^_^

Thanks for using the tip, Orcist! :)

To me, Nintendo means fun. Simple as that.

To me it means shot-term fun and long term disappointment. Kinda the opposite of Sony and MS, really.

Nintendo was pretty much a defining part of my childhood. Friendships were formed and solidified around Nintendo consoles and exchanging/talking about games. Friendships were broken around whether Nintendo was better than Sega. Nintendo is still to this day an important part of my life, whether it be humming a Zelda tune while walking up the road or enjoying some drunken multiplayer. And unlike my father Nintendo has yet to walk out.

To me Nintendo is more than just a games company its an integral part of my life, something that has been there constantly since I was about 7 years old. I'm not ashamed to admit that, and I hope that it is always the case.

I really dislike my last comment. What I was trying to say is that Nintendo has been a constant since my childhood. Like a best friend since childhood, sure you've had ups and downs with him but you know they will always be there and you can't really conceive of life without them. While you have both grown up a bit you still share the same childish immaturity that you always had. Most gamers on the wrong side of 20 will hopefully agree there.

Sony is more like your first shagging partner and Xbox her younger sexier sister. As much as you love these two you'd still rather spend most time with your good friend, unless you are really horny.

I'm pretty sure that came out all wrong.
