Starfox on the other hand just seems to have consistently missed the mark with me since the SNES was great and I recall fondly the N64 but after that ...... not so much.
Course if anything is going to sell me on a WiiU it will be whatever Zelda they manage to crank out.
IS MIYAMOTO THE FUCKER SHOEHORNING MOTION SHIT INTO EVERYTHING???
Regardless, talk is cheap. Don't tell me, show me.
Fusion and Other M pretty much forbade sequence breaking. Zero Mission had better exploration than both, but mostly devoid of breaking.
I think Retro understands Metroid better and while I'm sure they could do a fine 2D entry, I'll take whatever they give. If you're just going to toss a map on the bottom screen make a 3DS game.
I suppose I could live without the sequence breaking, but I'd definitely prefer having it, yeah.
I wasn't thinking just having the map down there (more having the map there when you don't need that screen for anything else), but shit, I'd take an SNES style Metroid on the 3DS. I know for sure I'm getting one of those in August, I wouldn't even have to worry about fretting over a Wii U.
Please spend less time rendering furs and more time making an awesomely badass sequel to Star Fox 64.
P.S. Or else your stupid new console can go drown itself.
"Fusion and Other M pretty much forbade sequence breaking."
Sequence breaking has always been unintentional, the result of bugs in the code, except when it has been deliberately scripted into the game, and starting with Super Metroid all games in the series have scripted sequence breaking, even Other M, they just "don't count" (seriously, wtf!?).
You can't expect them to intentionally ignore potentially game-breaking bugs for just the "possibility" of them leading to new tricks. That's lousy design.
They can do worse than Other M. They can make Other M 2.
Remember that Retro is the Western view of Samus, while Other M is the Japanese view of the character.
If Nintendo pushes a new Metroid for the Wii U, they'll probably push a Japanese Metroid. Even if they get a different development studio (which can be either good or bad), at the least we'd see the unfortunate return of the storytelling and characterization of Other M. I'm certain they can do more damage to Samus than they already have.
@The Silent Protagonist
Wow, this is the first time I've heard of sequence breaking and I've played Metroid games for years. Had to look it up to find out what it is. Due to that I can't think of it as a necessary element to the series.
Man, now I have something to do on my next playthrough of Metroid Fusion at least. I've beaten that game three times and never knew about the secret message.
"◔_◔ I liked Other M I think that Samus from other M had a good potential for character development."
Doesn't matter; the "community" and "the media" have decided the game is horrible, sexists, unplayable and has destroyed the character forever, therefore you must hate it and everyone involved.
Unless, of course, you're an "individual" or something.
To be honest I never really played the original metroids, was never super huge into side scrolling metroidvainia games. I did really love the Metroid prime series tho.
@El Conrado
You are perfectly welcome to like whatever game you deem worthy. Personally I found Samuses portrayal to be less than acceptable but the same would have gone if it had been a dude in magic space armor. Having your rockets, having a door that for some reason requires rockets to open .... and not being able to use them because your "rocket credentials" had been suspended ..... is bullshit by any standard, male or female.
At least in prime it had the cliche but acceptable ... your suit was somehow damaged and you lost your weapons "go find them".
That said, I still enjoyed the actual gameplay of Other M. Even though they changed a few aspects of it, the general gameplay still felt like a genuine Metroid game to me. I'd love an Other M style of game on the 3DS, truth told, and feel it would be a perfect platform for it (especially after playing Super Mario 3D Land, which uses a similar "3D but with 2D sensibilities" gameplay style).
"...and not being able to use them because your "rocket credentials" had been suspended ..... is bullshit by any standard, male or female."
True, but really, are we going to hold "Gameplay and Story Segregation" against THIS game? For real?
And also, the whole "ruined forever" thing has reached the point where I can honestly say the people spewing it have, indeed, ruined the game for me. I can't enjoy the game like I did the first time, because every time I start playing them I hear every goddamn complain replay in my head and go "why the hell did this game bother them so much", putting me in a state of mind where I can get no enjoyment pout of it.
Thank you, community.
Call me when either of them doesn't suck. Other M was a tragedy, and there hasn't been a good Star Fox since the N64.
actually the absence of one of these was what made E3 so disappointing for me. After opening with Pikmin, I was so sure they would end with one of these two, which are both just perfect for WiiU
This is a hole Nintendo digs for themselves every time, and makes people expect things that may never come to them, instead of them having the innate hope that they could see ANY of Nintendo's glorious properties show up, at any time. Theres something to be said about keeping people in the dark on your ideas.
@Alan (The Man formerly known as RedOne)
Thats a great idea, but you know they're going to do a FPS Prime-like game again. I'd buy either one, but I'd buy your idea a few more times over.
Has actually someone thought of the third person perspective for a Prime style game ? The combat could be like the FP metroids with on-lock and such, but it could be more dynamic, imagine: for jumping sections, the camera could zoom out to give a better picture of the plattforms and you could scan by using the Wii U Gamepad as a "scan visor" ...
Maybe they could draw some inspiration from Dead Space sans extreme violence and with faster movementsand Prime shooting controls...I would buy it!
But yea I would kind of also like a 2D Metroid.
(Fuck I did it again... >_<)
right miyamoto?
"Here's a fucking idea: NEW INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY."
...and like every time someone says this, I must ask: why?
Why do you want a new IP? What would a "new IP" give you that an existing one wouldn't, and what does that have to do with the IP itself?
'Cause, from where I'm standing, it looks like you're just asking for asking's sake.
Yeah, how dare those Other M haters actually provide arguments why Other is a terrible Metroid game and suggests ways to improve what Sakamoto had in mind! They should be like us Other M fans, saying the game is good because WE like it without providing any reason or argument!
