i just answered you. i listed games i want for Vita cause i planned to get it(just like all the other systems), but sony's mishandling of their own hardware makes it a really hard sale so i probably will wait until it's like 100$ with a decent memory card. Vita had so much potential and it was completely WASTED. when Vita was first announced they were hinting at so many features just to say "it's not coming.", "that feature? yeah that's not coming either" etc.
and sony doesn't even TRY to sell it to people.
you would think that some of those ps3 games that were announced since Vita was first shown would come to their handheld - LBP Karting being the obvious one here, right? yeah, that's not happening. United Front and other developers of many ps3 games that would fit on Vita flat out admitted that those games won't be released on that platform - it wasn't like "we can't talk about it" or something, they flat-out said "it's not coming to Vita, period". unlike Nintendo, Sony doesn't have so many different development teams to make many games for all their platforms, they don't have faithful 3rd party publishers who will release many exclusive games on Vita, they also don't have an audience for evergreen titles(like Nintendo platforms) that are both high quality and simple/easy to develop.
it's like if Ferrari made their next car with an amazing tech and engine under the hood just to cover it cheap plastic crap out of tunning nightmare and limit their own engine to 30 miles/hour so they could sell it as a friggin moped.
You think i'm defending it? I said he can talk when it's had it's own time. Can't really judge on something only out for a few months, with little to no software releases.
Let me run some numbers through you:
3DS units worldwide shipped as of June 30, 2011: 4.32 million
As of September 30: 6.68 million. Only 2 million sold after a huge price mark down isn't very good.
December 31: 15.03 million. I would hope it sold gangbusters after a price drop AND holidays.
Has the Vita seen many games, a price drop, and holiday season? No. Give it time.

I think mh3g is pretty technically impressive, what with its incredibly detailed graphic(considering the console, and some textures have been downgraded from the wii version in order to upscale others.)with real time shadowing and stable frame rate above 30fps in full 3d.
That came out before uncharted did by a whole week.
Here's an example of just one of your failures: you say "they flat-out said "it's not coming to Vita, period"." The thing is, they didn't say this at all. Instead, here is exactly what they did say: ""We are concentrating 100% on making the PS3 version LittleBigPlanet Karting the very best it can be," Ho said. "We are not working on a Vita version at this time," he added."
Quite a difference, yes? Stop letting your emotions get in the way, and stop letting a game system you do not own drive you to lie and rant and upset yourself in this way.
a year? i'm sorry what? anyone who says 3DS had bad launch is delusional.
Super Street Fighter IV, Samurai Warriors: Chronicles, Ridge Racer 3D(which is miles ahead of that crap on Vita), Steel Diver, Pilotwings Resort, Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars(if you own 3DS and don't have this game - SHAME ON YOU, especially if you bitch about "bad launch". at this point you don't even have a vote here).
and then after launch we've got: Dead or Alive: Dimensions, Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Star Fox 64 3D, BlazBlue: Continuum Shift 2, Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure, Cave Story 3D, Super Mario 3D Land, Tales of the Abyss, Mario Kart 7, Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy, Mighty Switch Force, Pushmo.
and that's only in 2011. it's hard to see how was that a bad 9 months that 3DS was on a market?
if you think Wii only has 10 or even 20 great 3rd party games you're either the typical HD "core gamer"(as "if it's not a shooter or R rated then it's casual shovelware") or don't have much experience with Wii.
i have a wii and i love it - i have giant selection of games from all genres which aren't present on other platforms.
I don't need Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. I already own it and it's better to play on a couch with pals.
I don't need Touch My Katamari. The series reached its peak years ago with We Love Katamari and I played a ton of that already.
I don't need Wipeout. I can see no distinct difference between it and previous entries in the series.
The problem with the Vita is that they've provided a launch library of games that you've basically already played before. That strategy typically only works if they're providing you one of your favorite games that you'd happily play again in another format, or a game that's old enough that you're introducing it to a new generation of players. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for example, was a good choice. I've actually recommended that game to more children that've never played it before than adults looking for nostalgia.
GO BUY Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i don't have 3DS yet and i'm still bought that game after trying it at friends house who picked it up - it's like 15$ now and probably won't be available in stores.
I can chill until then - I already have a backlog of games to play.
"Miyamoto praises Vita hardware, says it needs games"
The same story, with the same content, but a completely different mindset towards its presentation.
....^_^;
I'm pretty happy with my 3DS at the moment, still trying to do a no herb run on RE: Revelations, and waiting to get Mario Kart 7 and Kid Icarus for my birthday. By the time I've finished both of those games I'll have Dream Drop Distance coming out in June and whatever surprises come out of E3.
It's gotten to the point where no one in the industry seems to be allowed to say anything about the competition without the howler monkeys in the peanut gallery calling foul.
The 3DS had a lousy start, too. It's doing better now, but it's not really amazing either. To be fair, it had a better start than the original DS, both in terms of software and sales.
I would have a hard time recommending either to someone right now. The 3DS seemed to be gaining steam late last year, but then it puttered out again.
Where's my DS/GBA staples? Phoenix Wright, Advance Wars, Infinite Space, Animal Crossing, Rune Factory, even Pokemon is missing from the lineup. All those games I poured hundreds of hours into each, the ones that made me love those systems.
I think the Vita's biggest obstacle is going to be the same as the PSP. Price. I'd say price and battery life, but there's not nearly the gap here between the two consoles that there was between the original DS and original PSP.
It's not like the 3DS is on fire these days either. What's come out since Kid Icarus? Nothing. What's on the way? Couldn't tell ya.
The only reason it's moving now is because they dropped the price, and it's cheap enough for mom and dad to give it to the kids as a throw away gift. And we all know how well that worked out for them.
To be fair though, it was because my PSP's controls were so uncomfortable that the Vita has been amazing in letting play stuff like Dead Head Fred without my fingers slipping off an analog nub by giving me a proper stick and clicky, responsive d-pad instead. I had the opposite problem with my 3DS just not being very comfortable at all, especially with old DS games, compared to my trusty DSi.
I can tell you Power of Illusion, Bravely Default, and Fire emblem are on the way but other than that I could neither care to nor be able to tell you of worthwhile releases.
Fuck up, Miyamoto. We get it. You like money. You like the product you made. You want more people to buy it. But face the facts. The 3DS had one of the worst launches in gaming history while the Vita had one of the better ones. The 3DS has had an extra year on the market. Devs have had the hardware longer. Capcom did you a favor and ported Monster Hunter to your handheld so it would actually sell Japan.
Good for you. Do everyone a favor, go back to making games and keep your mouth shut.
What reality are you in? In this one, the media waterboarded vita before it even launched here.
Vitablaunched with more great games than 3ds got in its first year
I don't know you guys, but between real life and games one game can last me months (I leisurely played OoT in three months), not to mention every console's launch day so far has been lukewarm at best. I say let time (and game companies) do its work on both consoles.
It has seen constant game releases in Japan, and has coming
Ff theatherhythmn
Mario tennis
Rythmn thief r.
Heroes of ruin
Kingdom hearts
Pokemon conquest (DS)
New smb 2
...and I may be forgetting one or 2.
All within the next 3 months. And then from September o, through December many are expecting:
Luigus mansion 2
Fire emblem
Paper mario
Animal crossing
Mh3g
...and more, such as harvest moon and maybe CoD.
The Vita? Within the next 3 months, it has gravity rush and resistance. After that, little big planet and maybe new little kings story.
Most of the listed 3~4 month 3ds games are already out in Japan, with more big hitters planned for the same time period.
@the guy saying 3ds had nothing but ports
So does the vita. Disgaea and mvc, mod nation racers, ninja gaiden, mortal kombat. That's a lot of ports.
They are getting a remaster of one of the games that never made it to America.(I'm no expert on the series, though so my knowledge on the subject is shakey.)
Fact is 3ds has a stronger line up right now, and I'm just as satisfied with my vita games. Just because you fucks aren't "interested" in the games doesn't mean they aren't there.
Get your dick out of your fucking asses, and put it in mine. Heh :)
... Resident Evil Revelations is fantastic and has ridiculous replay value. Kid Icarus is a solid game, though the controls are weird, you do get use to them and the game keeps you playing, and both of those have great online functionality which is weird being on a Nintendo system and all... Mario Kart 7 is solid online as well.. so yeah... there's three reasons to use your 3DS right there...
Vita... well I don't know.. I have uncharted and it's good but it's not close to the home console versions in all honesty.
That being said it took almost a year for my 3DS to earn its keep, and it still has a library of game that is pretty full of ports or re-releases.
Both systems had a poor launch in my eyes, the big difference is I don't see anything that interests me down the pipeline for the vita... However I'm sure that will be remedied at E3.
Nintendo is trying to get digs in now because unless the Wii-U lineup of games is amazing and awesome... They will have nothing. When I saw Nintendo saying that there next console was = to the current gen console in power I was and am still convinced they are setting themesleves up for failure. The onyl thing they will have left is the 3DS to fall back onto.
Sony on the other hand despite some issues with security is still releasing games for the PS3 that I want to this day. I can think of at least 5-6 titles this year alone. The Wii has what maybe 3 that I'm interested in. I give this about a year or two and see how it goes. If developers get in on the Vita, I'm certain it will crush the 3DS for games as far as graphics and playabaility. I like my DS but Nintendo has dropped the ball for me as far as going for gimick instead of gaming power.
That being said. The only reason I bought a 3DS was for the ambassador program (bought it at walmart at the reduced price right before it changed). I had no intention of buying the 3ds at first.. and free retro games got it for me.
I had planned on buying the vita around november, when the price would go down (black friday sales), but my wife surprised me with it on launch day.
I am constantly finding games for each system to play. But I guess I'm the fuckup because I enjoy both. Yeah.. thats it.
Nothing for nothing the 3DS didn't have compelling software by this point either, but it also didn't have an working store like the vita does. So.. Yeah, Vita isn't doing so well yet, but Miyamoto really shouldn't/can't speak yet.
Wait till around Christmas, when 3DS sales finally decided to pick up because of a price drop and good software started to funnel in.
"To be entirely fair to Sony, I'd say the Vita had a far stronger launch lineup than the 3DS did."
It did, because 25 fairly varied games was way stronger then, what, 6? The only issue with the line up now is that there doesn't seem to be much on the horizon, when all the 3DS had was horizons.
"I think both systems have felt a bit weak, lately."
Me neither, I haven't picked up either of them in months. One problem I see with Nintendo is that the only 2 games I can see wanting for a handheld this year are the 2 pokemon games -and neither of them are 3DS games. Sure, I can play them ON the 3DS if I wanted (and I would, since I don't have a DSi any more) but, seriously, thats not the type of "brand support" we should be seeing. In fact, its not brand support at all.
As for Sony's issues.. I don't know what they are.. Theres just doesn't look like theres support for the Vita at all.
I also felt the launch for both was rather weak. I mean, I didn't get the 3DS until the price drop. Still waiting for the VITA to drop in price. It's out the door price is just too expensive for the little it offers.
Anyway, it was only a few months for the 3DS to get relief. We knew those game were coming and it was just a matter of waiting. Where's the relief for VITA? I have absolutely no idea what to expect. So, I have to completely judge the purchase based on what's out now. There's nothing that I find worth it. Nothing that I find excels at what my iPhone or 3DS offers. Every game that has come out seems to be a console style game. Something that I rather play on my TV. Which, in most cases...I can. I just don't understand its business model.
