*returns to Twitter on my Vita*
I'm hoping the MGR:Revengeance Vita version will be different from the console version.
Higher expectations for 3DS are what I think the real culprit is here. Sony's launch was just as weak but lower expectations made it seem better than it was.
Then again, for balance, Japanese sales have been consistently bad for Vita, so there's also that to bring it down to earth.
Still, I don't have a reason to own a Vita until Persona 4 and Dragon's Crown are out and with that being so close to the Wii U launch, I might just get P4 and wait to buy a Vita next year.
It's not just the Vita or the 3DS - my PS3, Xbox and PC are all kinda bored right now too, and have been for a few months.
at the same time we have 3DS that where we have new game announcements nearly every week and right now have over 100 titles coming in the next 12 months AND THAT ONLY COVER EXCLUSIVES. even at launch 3DS had more quality exclusive titles than Vita and nobody can't even deny that(there was Uncharted which was ok and Wipeout which wasn't even that good even if we overlook massive amount of problems with that game).
we constantly hear from sony fanboys:
"blah, blah, Gravity Rush"
"blah, blah, Resistance"
"blah, blah, LBP2 port"
"blah, blah, Persona 4 port"
and we hear that since launch and those games will be released in the fall. 3DS have its Gravity Rushes, Resistances on monthly basis for the past several months with big titles being released pretty much every few days.
i made a list of Vita titles i was interested in since its announcement to track them(just like i do for other platforms) and if they would end up good, buy them(if i bought Vita). while 3DS list nearly quadrupled since E3 2010, Vita's list was cut in half and even before the list of games wasn't impressive.
Any credibility your vitriol-infused comment may have had originally gradually dissipates each time you utter the word "fanboy".
You just need to ask yourself which system you will wait a another year to get becuse buying a half done system with a too small library for the current price is silly. Lets all play some Katamari damashi or just cause 2 while we wait^^
The Vita launched with a load of very good games, has a fair few in the pipeline, and access to a fucktonne of PSN titles, but launched before a bit of a gap during the industry's quiet time.
Personally i'm still enjoying launch games myself - FIFA doesn't get old, and Unit 13 has a fucktonne to do in it, everybody's golf is still keeping me entertained.
Apart from that i'm waiting for lumines to get cheap somewhere, cause i need it in and around my body, but it's pretty pricey for a block breaking game. But maaaan do I need it! *goes to check the one he's watching on eBay*
Not to mention resistance is out soon (isn't it?) - and mortal kombat launched here today, which i must say i'm kinda tempted by.
right now, the Vita has more games that i want to play than I can justify buying - so personally I'm a happy camper.
And hell, if you're really stuck for something to play on the Vita - fire up Monster Hunter unite, Gods eater burst, or 3rd Birthday or something!
I'm also kinda tempted by Patapon 3 too.. Pata pata...
It's a nice machine and I look forward to having one eventually, but there's nothing out now that makes me feel like I NEED one. Resistance and Uncharted are nice, but those aren't system sellers for me.
Anyway, just give me my New King's Story, Gravity Rush, New Monster Hunter[Yes, still rooting for that] and Persona 4.
Oh and although I don't have anything against the 3DS. The Vita still gets the MGS2&3 HD remakes whereas the 3DS gets a 3D-modified MGS3 that has framerate issues. [Time will tell though, Vita versions may not be without framerate issues either]
I said it about the PS3 and the PSP and i think it rings true about the Vita too, I am smack bang in the middle of their target market - it's like they took exactly what I personally wanted and released it to the letter.
Maybe Nintendo do that for you, or Microsoft, or anyone, but for me, Sony just give me exactly what I want, almost always.
If there is one thing I can take away from being more and more involved with Destructoid's views on the videogame industry it is that there is always more a company do to offer a better product.
VITA needs to be a better product. No matter how you cut it. Heck, VITA could be brining in more new users than 3DS and have more content than iOS, there will still be more to address. From a consumer standpoint, all we can expect is the best and SCE needs to do all that is in their power deliver on more of the promising's of VITA.
Seriously, it's beyond stupid.
It isn't the EAs or Activisions that are killing gaming. It's gamers.
Yeah, until a few months later when you have to buy yet another memory card because you were foolish enough to buy the 4GB model.

The Vita, by all accounts, is floundering fairly hard. Its estimated sales in the West are weak, and the definitive sales numbers in Japan are embarassingly bad. I'm with TheSilentProtagonist on this one, the Vita isn't being critiqued nearly as harshly as the 3DS was in the game-o-sphere, and I think it's weird that it isn't.
I want one, it's a gaming device so of course I want one. It's too fucking expensive, though.
Personally, I think the Vita was a huge gamble on Sony's part. They doubled down on the "portable console experience" idea, and it's not exactly paying ends. It makes you wonder exactly how much Monster Hunter was propping up the PSP.
See my comment above. Please, explain how you feel personally slighted by the existence of the Vita, so much so that you cannot help but arrive and spout hyperbole and nonsense and insults at every single article mentioning it. Do you have so little in your life that this is all that makes you happy?
Until then I say the 3DS still did much worse than the Vita. Which will do better when the Japanese get those pervy games they're so fond of like the 3DS game that's including a tissue box so you can fap to it.
I am just tired of all the constant Vita bashing. I just don't understand it. If you're a gamer, you should, logically, support a quality release like the Vita, and not wish death on one of the key companies in gaming. It just makes no sense to me. I think Nintendo, MS, and Sony all have their place, and all produce worthy products, to one degree or another.
As for terrible launches, how about the awful launch lineup for the 360. What was the best title there? CoD2? The hardware was fine, the launch lineup was terrible. Perfect Dark Zero was insanely bad. I waited it out until decent titles finally started to show, but it took quite a while.
because the Vita is a joke? you need to buy SEPARATE overpriced memory card to even get it running. add to that inability to play PSX games, PS2 games from PSN, lack of games and those games that were released are at the same level of quality as Gameloft iOS titles. why do we need all that power in 300+$ console with 40$ if 0.99$ iOS title has similar level of content and quality. my friend picked up Vita and he was trying to sell it to everyone he's seen and after the hype died even he is questioning buying the whole thing. right now he's using it for apps exclusively - he bought 300+euro GAME CONSOLE that is now used for Twitter and Facebook. most of those games are a joke given their 30-40$ price tag and most of them look at best on par with PSP games.
my current list of wanted Vita games goes like this:
Disgaea 3 - only because i don't like those types of games on home consoles and original game is unavailable here,
Bioshock - which is right now nothing more than an idea since they don't have a script, didn't start any pre-production and don't even know if they will make this game internally or outsource it so we're looking at 2014-2015 release IF it won't be CANCELLED.
Persona 4 The Golden - which is a port of a game i've already played like 5 times.
Dragon's Crown - which is is publishing hell right now with a posibility of not even coming outside Japan.
Gravity Daze
Little Kings Story 2 - which turned out to be a remake with different artstyle which i don't like.
6 games, only one of which was released and 2 possible not coming out of Japan with another one(LKS2) being just an unwanted(by me) butchered port of a wii game i already own.
If Battlefield 3 or Call of Duty is not announced for the machine at E3......it will be a HUGE disappointment.
Belittled? Are you 15 or something?
And you realize that the 3DS sold gangbusters last year, right?
Trust me, the Vita ill needs such an ignorant defense. Do Sony a favor and never talk about the Vita in public.
Problem is, the 3ds hasn't really gathered much affection from me either, by far my most played game on there is samurai warriors, because I fucking love samurai warriors. I own 7 games, and I haven't even opened 3 of them, and I don't really feel compelled to do so. Nothing about the system has really captured the greatness the gameboy advance held. I think SM3d Land is really boring, which is a big bummer considering I love Mario 64, but it really failed to capture that style I was expecting. I'm looking forward to Paper Mario and Luigi's Mansion, but I can't help feel like Nintendo has already lost in my mind.
I know in the overall market Nintendo will win in sales regardless, but much like the PSP vs DS, I think the Vita is the better system. More power, better design, lots of potential. Sony's big problem is they just can't manage to garner support. They only need one game to put them on the map, a monster hunter for the east, cowadooty for the west. They can't just expect developers to come to the system when they haven't been trying to sell it to them as a profitable venture.
Just one mans opinion, so don't get your balloon knot in a tizzy.
3DS had an AWFUL launch lineup (one of the worst I'd ever seen for a new console or handheld), and the sales reflected that at first. Then came a big price drop and a couple of staple games and the thing sells like hotcakes.
Vita had one of the best launch lineups I've ever seen for a console/handheld and then hit a few month lull with nothing really coming out and the sales are lower than ever.
Both of them are currently in a dry spot, but the 3DS is cheaper and has Mario to fall back on.
I think the Vita absolutely NEEDS a price drop to keep it competitive. There's a few pretty awesome games on the horizon. Maybe just a $25 drop? At the very least, they should drop those memory prices. That would make me step up to the plate and buy one A LOT sooner.
