Miyamoto helps promote Samurai Warriors 3, grins menacingly photo

Shigeru Miyamoto showed up at a recent Samurai Warriors 3 event, which seemed random at first, but makes sense after a little digging. Apparently, Miyamoto was the producer of the Famicom Disk System title Nazo no Murasamejou, and Samurai Warriors 3 will have a mode based around that game. While this not quite a Nintendo/Koei collaboration, it's pretty damn close. Crazy.

So yeah, Miyamoto showed his face at a Samurai Warriors 3 event, but what about the game? From what I'm hearing, it sounds amazing; 35 playable characters, over 40 enemies on screen (take that, Dead Rising:CTYD), and get this, potentially no motion controls. It's still in discussion, but this game may designed to work only with the classic controller, with prerequisite classic controller bundle to follow. This is great news if you ask me. Some games are a good fit for the Wii not because they're suited to motion controls, but for the Wii's large install base and low development costs. Just as not ever DS game needs stylus controls, not every Wii game needs motion controls, as the sales of Monster Hunter 3 and Super Smash Bros. Brawl have proven.

OK, time to jump off my high horse. Hit the jump for screens of the game in action, and tell us what you think in the comments. Will this "hardcore" Japanese game sell on the Wii? Do you plan to give it a shot? And what the hell is up with Miyamoto's shirt? It looks like it's made out of lifesavers and gummi bears.

That smile says "I wish it was Ninja Warriors, or Pet Doggie Warriors, but Samurai Warriors is cool too."

The fact that you plugged CTYD like that despite your love for it deserves a <3

In all seriousness I'm pissed this is Wii exclusive, because it would be much better using Live or PSN's online system. Either way, it's Koei, so bet your ass it'll be multiplatform eventually. They're even porting PSP exclusives over nowadays.

I had a dream I had a Wii, only to wake up and realize I sold it to some lady on Ebay some time ago.

If I still had a Wii, I'd be very interested in this title and would probably purchase it; however, I don't feel as though this is the type of game that will become a huge hit on Nintendo's console--though I don't speak for everyone.

So I take it we're pixelating any graphics associated with Nintendo now? Huh...

Of course, because everyone knows the Wii is slightly more powerful than the Gamecube, and all of the Gamecube's games looked like absolute shit. [/sarcasm]

I have a love/hate relationship with the whole series. I like them as mindless brawlers, but hate that they always push something out, then wait a year or two and make a special edition that actually feels like a "complete" game so they can sell people two copies. 35 characters isn't bad, but just wait till they let you pay $40 to be able to make custom characters (one of their favorite things to add in an 'expansion').

I see what Koemco's doing. They push this game on the Wii because of low production cost. Make some money off it, then make it for the PS3/360 with better graphics and maybe 2-3 more added characters. Seems to be the thing to do these days.

Good Game Koemco.

Uh, I'm pretty sure Dead Rising had a limit for 100 on the Wii. Sure it's not the 800 for X360, and it's definitely not the 7000 for the second X360 one...

(Wait, 7000 zombies?)

Sounds like a good excuse to export that new Classic Controller Pro over here.

Miyamoto looks like he could be somebody's mother in that flower print top of his.

I can't tell if those are new characters or redesigns of old ones. I do hope it's a true sequel with full character redesigns though.

Ah OK looked it up and the orb guy is Kanbei Kuroda, who I'm happy to see become a playable, and the chick is a crazy Hojo Warrior who became one of Toyotomi's concubines. Interesting.

Aaaand the scythe guy I vaguely remember and apparently he had a bunch of pregnant Christian women have their stomachs cut open and their babies beheaded. Yaaaay wikipedia.

So, still need to see if the old characters are getting redesigns, but I'd hope so.
