Miyamoto comments on Wii Music review scores photo

In an interview with Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto, Edge asked for the legendary designer's response to some of the poor reviews Wii Music received from the gaming press.

Miyamoto says that he thinks that we're just now getting to the point where people are getting around to playing Wii Music for the first time, probably alone. Perhaps he's trying to say that joining a game with multiple players is more fun when he said that he thinks that "there is more to playing games than just playing by yourself."

He also states that he hopes more people will come to understand Wii Music's unique approach, but admits that the appeal of the title is limited.

"I really don’t think that it will have the immediate and universal appeal around the world at all," he said.

It seems he's taking some of the poor reviews in stride: "I really appreciate that the gaming media has a different view of anything as new as Wii Music today – it’s [sic] simply symbolises how different and unique Wii Music is."

Check out the rest of the interview at Edge.

I didn't even know this game had come out.

Sorry, "game."

Games that aren't worth playing alone need online multiplayer. Having other people around you can make throwing rocks at a wall fun. It has nothing to do with the game being more fun.

I don't agree with Miyamoto about Wii Music, but I certainly don't agree with you either. Have ye no friends?

I agree with killias2. The perfect example would be fighting games, which are boring against the CPU and frustrating/unplayable online.

If a game is retarded it just is retarded. This game is retarded

The problem with this "game" was that it wasn't made for us, the gamer. It was made for children and people outside of our demographics. If this wasn't a Nintendo title, we would have long forgotten about it.

Scroll Miyamoto is the best reason to start using drugs. The man must be wigged out on acid 80% of his life to come up with stuff like pikmin and wii music. So your no drug argument is stupid and everyone should be mandated that everyone smokes a joint everyday.

"Have ye no friends?"

Did you not read the second and third sentences of the words you quoted from me? Almost any video game you can't play by yourself is being designed half-assed. Saying a game "needs a crowd to be fun" is like saying "it would be interesting if you were high" to excuse a retarded story.

Well Wii music isn't really a game, you can't lose, you can't win, its more of a fancy tech demo.

The backlash of it is due to them pushing like its a killer app.

It's funny how he is so positive about everything. Most devs would be disappointed by universally low review scores.

Didn't Sony try to pull the same type of crap with Lair? That noone in the press didn't understand its motion controls and thats why the game got shit reviews, and now Shiggy saying the game is too unique too be reviewed and taking it in stride. Sorry a turd is still a turd no matter how much you polish it.
