Mistwalker hasn't really done too much of note since the rather brilliant Lost Odyssey was released last year. In fact, we haven't heard from them since March, when some mysterious artwork was released. Fortunately, the studio has come out of its shell recently to confirm that it's wrapping up a new project, having been "rushed" into the final stages.
"I am working hard on a new project," blogs Mistwalker head Hironobu Sakaguchi. "Now we are being rushed into the 'finishing' stage. No matter what, I will make it really good…."
Given the quality of Lost Odyssey, I have little doubt that Sakaguchi will indeed make the next game "really good." Whether it be a sequel to last year's game, or a new concept entirely, I can't wait to see what Mistwalker comes up with. Having heard that previous Mistwalker projects were canceled, I was quite worried about the company's future, so I'm very glad to hear that things are still happening.
We'll keep an ear to the ground and let you know as soon as we hear more.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I thought that was what this story was about!
Everything in this statement is false and the way you have chosen to live your life is bad.
Did you at least play it?
But it's definitely among the best RPGs of the generation, it's just not that significant an accomplishment considering this generation of RPGs has been the worst in history.
I hope Uematsu does the soundtrack. LO's soundtrack is my favorite of this generation, RPG or not.
Unfortunately, the same goes for just about every JRPG this generation. The memorable characters are FAR outnumbered by the generic and just plain poorly designed ones. Please, give me a JRPG with characters I won't hate listening to or staring at for the next 40 hours...
Truer words have never been spoken by a pretentious, "look at me," town cryer with nothing better to do but shit on the opinion of the majority.
You don't like the game? Great. All the rest of that was uneccesary.
Mistwalker done a good job with Lost Odyssey, considering they took a big brave step away from Sqaure Enix, something many japanese developers still fear even trying. Next to Valkyria and Persona 3, its one of the leading lights of how to try new stuff in jrpgs.
I'll look forward to them, showing off their new baby.
But he's so annoying!!! He never shuts up! He is pretty useful in battle, though.
oh well hope this is good too.
the whole "too much loading before every battle!" was way too over-dramatized by message board gamers and your comment plays along with that.
you can time it with the music, 18 seconds into battle your in control

and it might be odd to mention the recycling of old FF concepts since every JRPG is a recycled concept
I'm with Jim on this one.
I think of Lost Odyssey every day (pure love?) and I cannot express how much I appreciate Mistwalker, even if they are developing for the world's greediest company.
And, yeah, I could get a 360. Problem is...there's like 5 games total that I'd actually care to play on it. Let's see LO, Halo 3 [just because, though I could live without...but might as well get it], Fable II [and this is a maybe at best], Mass Effect and now I have to push to those that I see coming in the future. Alan Wake, this new game from MW, Mass Effect 2 [possibly PS3 bound]. Toss in some Valve games and Bioshock...
Not enough there for me to care and buy a console that WILL break sooner rather than later and a company that tends to be shoddy. Got screwed with Vista myself, not having a choice since I was going to college and needed a PC. And speaking of PC, I'd rather spend 300+ upgrading my current system to play games then spend it on a 360...
I hope they will do some new IP ( as long as it is coming to 360, whether
multi-platform or not I don't care ) after the sequels are finished.
just say you want to play Mistwalker games on your PS3.
anyway
M$ paid to put that studio together so they got first dibs.
That said, neither have seen "really good" reviews or success. Would be nice to see this one change that.
@Drakengaurd
Bioshock is on ps3, and brand new it's cheap on amazon. Heard some people thought it was scary, but I get more scared playing Demon's Souls tbh. Bioshock was very disappointing, but it's playable at least.
@Aperfect Pushup
I'm not sure that means they're still in MS's pocket. They've already given them 3yearsish of exclusives despite maintaining a 3rd party title. Unless those games didn't sell enough to pay them back of course.
I totally agree with you about J-RPGs recycling the same old formula since early days (which, when done properly, with a little 'soul' poured into it, doesn't bother me that much, considering many other genres and games do the same thing).
However, about LO (which I liked), 18 seconds pre-battle seems a lot of time to me. When people are shouting about 60 seconds pre-battle, I think it's just an overstatement to make it clear it's damned too long. I'm quite sure many other disc-based RPG classics are quicker, let's say under 10 sec'.(maybe I'll check).
Please NO random battles.
