Mistwalker boss Hironobu Sakaguchi is well known for his traditional RPGs, but that doesn't mean he can't enjoy a blood-soaked Western action game. The game designer is a fan of recent Sony blockbuster God of War III, although he does think the ridiculously epic intro movie is too long.
"A long opening movie," says Sakaguchi, explaining his one big issue with the game. "It’s nicely done, but you don’t need this. It’s movie-like, but you don’t need long openings in games ... Sorry, my English is poor. lol Now I’m playing GoW3 and write some comments. This is [a] good game."
Nice to see him enjoying it, in any case. It's certainly a good game, even if we've seen most of the gameplay before. That intro movie was a tad on the self-inflated side, but until Kratos starts rivaling Solid Snake in the cutscene department, I don't think we've anything to worry about.

Managed to finish it on in two sittings, loved every moment.
The people who work for the man who invented Final Fantasy.
If you're going to try and make someone sound insignificant, make sure they're NOT significant. :-)
Took the words out of my mouth.
Final Fantasy XIII has so many more long cutscenes, I think its a bit cheeky to criticise God of War 3.
I haver no idea how big it is though.
Atleast not untill i feel like paying another 70€ for a fucking vídeo game. thats 93$. how much do you guys pay in the USA btw?
Wow. Are you serious? You're serious aren't you? Geezus.
Anyways it's not like he said the game suffered for it. He said the game is great, the cutscene is too long. I'm we can all mark experience dating back to the PS2 where we've all thought the same thing. It's not that big a deal. Especially if it's only the intro.
The Colossus? You just throw yourself at it. First Kratos tries chopping up its face and stab it in the eye but that doesn't work. Then he chops off its arms. Finally you just bash a hole inside of it, crawl inside, and smash up its divine essence thingy. It even ends with the damn thing smashing Kratos with its last bit of energy.
Fucking epic.
Sounds like an opinion to me, which I think Sakaguchi has as much a right to have as any one else who played the game.
And for the cutscene of the camera climbing Olympus, it was perfect.
And maybe im mstaken, but the last Final Fantasy I played was XII and the opening cinematic was way longer. Oh and seriously what's the problem of a long intro? It's not the end of the world, you will just have to wait 2 more minutes to play your game...
People these days don't know what to complain about...
Basically.
Man gets shit for it.
Man eats a cupcake.
Man is happy.
Is this a joke?
There is no way to skip it, that's the annoying part...
Seriously though, it's not like they bombard you with cut scenes every two seconds. The end is a tad long in my opinion, but it was the conclusion of a five year project spanning four games and three systems. Shrug, I can see why the developers did it, it was as much for them as it was for us I'm sure.
In the end it's personal taste. It's a cinematic experience, you're going to get a cinematic opening.
you mean like complaining about a guy's opinion on an intro movie even though he says he likes the game?
Wow, it's a bit cheeky of you to say that since Hironobu Sakaguchi isn't apart of Square-Enix and didn't develop Final Fantasy XIII or XII. He is head of Mistwalker now. If you want to criticize games he actually created, please feel free. However, get your facts straight.
Remind me next time to never form an opinion other than the most popular one. I'd hate for people to think I was wrong.
I'm a cutscene whore, what can I say?
As for the people saying things like "ohh the father of Final Fantasy talking bad about long cutscenes, isn't that cute or ironic", are being kind of stupid. First off as I recall he stopped directing FF's at 5 or 6, so before they became giant cut scene bloated parodies of themselves. Secondly he has done some interesting things at integrating standard JRPG cutscene bloat with actual interactivity and gameplay. For instance look at the opening sequence of Lost Odyssey in which the opening cutscene was integrated with gameplay vignettes that also acted as a brief tutorial.
I'm sure (being a video game creator GOD) he was referring to the practicality of the into. He is not in to doing things unless they have a practical reason. This long intro just wasn't practical in his mind. He has ground to say so. He's actually made extremely successful games. Have you?
