Missile Command on XBLA this Wednesday photo

This week's Xbox Live Arcade release is the Atari classic, Missile Command. It's set to hit XBLA on Independence Day and can be yours for 400 Microsoft Points. I guess if you squint your eyes and have a little booze in you, the explosions in Missile Command do sort of resemble fireworks exploding.

Fun little factoid courtesy of Wikipedia: "while programming Missile Command, its writer suffered from nightmares." What a traumatic experience that must've been for the poor guy. Maybe the game really was cursed like the old legends used to say.

Like previous old school games to hit Live Arcade, Missile Command will feature the regular visual style as well as the option to play with a new high-def look. It will even support resolutions up to 1080p, anti-aliasing, and digital surround sound.

What are you thinking, Xbox 360 owners? Yay or nay?

This game stands as one of my all-time favs. Though any controller is a sad replacement for the Trackball of the arcade game, I'll be picking this one up on wednesday.

We need a good retro arcade stick/trackball for all these awesome old games. I'd love to see a sweet lap board that's at least a solid joystick... and could we have the ball top for it? The oblong sticks always sucked in comparison.

I really like Missile Command too, so I'll probably get this. Hopefully Bomberman will come out next week though.

I'm thinking about getting one of these made for 360 (would work on PC too). I wonder how much the guy charges.

I want Spyglass Checkers dammit.

And where's Space Giraffe?

We should've had that months ago.

Missile Command is one of my favorite games ever. I spent countless hours playing this on my Atari, which I still hook up from time to time just to play this, Super Breakout, and a couple others. I never could do it with the trackball, and I'm sure the 360 stick will be a reasonable substitute for the Atari joystick.

Count me in!

When I was a kid, one of our neighbors had a Missile Command machine in his garage, and would let my and my friends come over and play all the time. It was awesome, and no I didn't get molested. At least not by him.
