The above is a new '2D' trailer (a cartoon, basically) telling the backstory for DICE's interesting and brightly colored new IP, Mirror's Edge. The game certainly gets many points for concept, although I can't wait to see some more in-game action.
Still, feast your eyes on the delicious ideas that present themselves, and hope they make for a great game. I know I shall be.

Meet the rest of the team
I think the trailer started off strong, but kind of got into cheesy territory at the end. And yet, I'm still looking forward to see more from this game. It just looks so fucking great.
I'm with Cobra, it started off with an interesting enough premise then quickly devolved into "ownoes, dey kidnapped mah sistah, time for revenge" generic action movie/game territory.
Looks a bit like it'll be another game that'll not realise it's full potential.
@Yannak : Uh, ok. I'm not quite sure what else you can come up with to implement free running into a game. And if you can by all means please do tell. You're right though, the story is a little heavy on the cheeeeeeeessssseeeeeee~ but the game play looks great.
I know it's petty, but would prefer the option to play as a male or female character. Not too sure on the gameplay, though. From what I've seen so far, moving from one obstacle to the next seems to consist of activating a color button (RGBY) at a certain point to perform a feat to move from one area to another. Perhaps it gets more strategic by offering a puzzle of sorts for bypassing an area or getting to a goal in the quickest possible way? Not sure.
@monkeyspoon5 I meant of Beyond Good & Evil fame, especially what she will look like in the new game. I probably should have made that more clear. This is of course by comparison. I'm just not feeling the whole black-haired asian doo thing she got going, but that's just me. Game will kick ass regardless.
still want to see more real game footage, though. i suspect that problems could arise from a first person game with constant movement and jumping like that. but still, looks neat.
You know what I mean. All I'm saying is that I'm not feeling the look as much as some people, that's just my preferences. But if the sci-fi fans are going ape shit over the writer, she should be a good character.
I thought this game was about not being too combat-heavy....
I really hope it doesn't do an MGS4, and make the more interesting premise of escape far inferior to simply killing everything =(
They just released some new images, too. Her weaponlessness isn't exactly accurate. Apparently she can pick up weapons along the way. Looks good. I hope it doesn't suck.
@Cobra
What video game doesn't stray into cheesy territory at some point?
@Sharpless: Well she "can" pick up weapons, but she "sucks at using them" and they slow her down to the point that it's usually better to toss them at the first opportunity.
Looks like most of it is, "point A to point B, as fast as possible", which I'm just fine with.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. I'be been craving for this game ever since the first trailer!
I'm still really looking forward to this game.

I agree with Gynecologist Cobra.
Looooking forwardy to this.
If you f**k this up I will hunt you down.

I personally really like the character design.
A game that involve parkour, cant wait! :D
the cinematic trailer is usually supposed to look better than the game...
you'd think they wouldn't want to hide those beautiful graphics though, right?
"There is an institution and we are rebels against it. They took a member of my family. Shit just got real."
I mean, come on. You gotta admit this is weak.
I'm still interested in the game, but I doubt this trailer is going to win anyone over.

Asian's have hair colours other than black?
Do tell of this scientific miracle.
Also, I don't understand why a main character has to be attractive in order to be a good character.
I really hope it doesn't do an MGS4, and make the more interesting premise of escape far inferior to simply killing everything =(
