I just really want another game.
It would just be run into the ground like BF3 - into complete shit.
But for all it's worth, while sequels do come as more accesible, easier and sometimes even simpler, they are still not bad on their own. Crysis 2 was fun, but felt more like a linear shooter unlike it's predecessor, and Dead Space 2 was tons of fun, had great evolutions over the systems of the first one, but didn't use those as much as the first game (I mean, only one puzzle in the entire game, and very few Zero-G and Vaccuum moments)
So while I wouldn't say that Mirror's Edge 2 is going to suck, it is going to be less of what made the original great, and more of what makes Call of Duty so popular: Accesibility
Hold it, unlike CoD, the use of weapons on Mirror's Edge is minimal and highly optional. It would be a bit rubbish if they made you use lots of weapons in this sequel "to make it up".
Objection, I never stated, in my argument, that they were to put more guns into Mirror's Edge 2. I just said that the game might have easier/fewer controls, more tutorials, and might be shorter, in order to make it both cost effective and open to the public.
Because honestly, how many of the guys that started the Crysis series from the second game ACTUALLY finished the first game?
Here's my time on both campaigns:
Crysis - 19 hours
Crysis 2 - 7 hours
I rest my case, your honor
Oh and a map editor!
I loved Mirror's Edge's single player for the most part so more of that is fine so long as the writing is a little better.
They just need to improve the combat a bit, and make sure Solar Fields is signed on for the soundtrack, and ditch the animated cutscenes, and it should be amazing.
You'd think they would at least show the damn thing or shut up until there's something to show instead leading everyone on for another year.
Now then, I know I've said all this before, but I think Mirror's edge was perfect fine the way it was. But here's a couple of tips to make it be received better by the public:
1) ADD USER-GENERATED MISSIONS a-la LBP or Infamous 2. This will address the length issue completely and will give players an infinite amount of fun stunt-driven levels to blaze through.
2) Either make it EXPLICITLY CLEAR that combat is a last resort or beef up combat a bit. I though it was pretty clear already, but too many people STILL tried to play it like an FPS with guns ablaze. So either make it very clear that combat isn't really an option (instead use environmental obstacles or traps?) or beef up the combat to make it an option (but PLEASE don't focus on it).
3) Don't use those weird, choppy, motion-novel cut scenes unless you're going to polish them A LOT MORE than they were in the last game. The game was pretty good looking already, so just use in-engine cut-scenes and we'll all be happy.
*in lieu of some of the above suggestions*
4) Just make a whole damn open-world city that we can tool around in.
Because length is synonymous with quality right? Crysis 2 was more linear but was also a better game. Crysis was an unfocused mess.
The first game was incredible, so there are mostly things I DON'T want to see in a sequel. Things like multiplayer. Open world design. Guns. Yes, the shooting mechanics were terrible, because it wasn't an FPS. Remove guns entirely. Just leave her with the option to disarm and opponent and throw it away.
Really the only thing I'd like to see is more variety in locations. Although the add-on levels were perfect, and they were just colored blocks. What would you like to see in the sequel?
