Minesweeper coming to XBLA: Pay money for a free Windows game photo

Considering it's generally free to game on a PC and it costs money to play on Xbox Live, it only stands to reason that a free PC game should also appear on Xbo LIVE Arcade for a fee. Yes, Tik Games has finally officially announced a "sequel" to Minesweeper, known as Minesweeper Flags. Now the staple of my Windows 32 childhood can return for cold, hard cash.

Team Xbox has gone hands-on with the game and returned with the following information:

Campaign Mode is a series of 140 of these terrain-based boards spread across the seven continents. You start with North America, which gives you boards surrounded by wildlife (such as bears and deer), a lake with a boat and similar views. When you get to South America, the boards have grass that’s a bit more scarce with such visuals as stone statues, cactus and grazing llama. When you get to the last puzzles in Antarctica, the whole terrain is covered with snow, with buildings, penguins and snowmobiles dotting the landscape.

Certainly a little more evolved from a bunch of grey blocks and a little yellow smiley face, but even so ... Minesweeper. I somehow don't think it will have quite the artistic and emotional impact that Braid had, to be honest.

Still, you never know.

I've never really liked this game... but I sort of want to play it anyway. What the hell is wrong with me?

Yeah, can't say I'm interested in another Minesweeper. However, I did play through Braid again last night. I thought the game was clever and the story was interesting, but when you actually know the depth of the narrative and start picking up on more of the visual clues... it's incredible.

@Cowzilla

Why aren't you on GoogleTalk? You're clearly on the Internet. Also, what time should I get to your place tomorrow before we head out to meet Rocky and Blindside?

Jesus wept. Is this why they are delisting all the shit games? So they can put MORE on?

That said, if points were awarded for getting villagers and their herds of animals across the board without being maimed or blown into a fine, bloody mist I might be interested. Extreme violence makes anything more fun!

LOL, I've just played minesweeper for five minutes on my laptop, for free.

Who the hell is THAT fucking stupid to pay for this when it comes on hundereds of millions of computers all around the world, already installed, available for nothing, with better controls.

I do hope humanity is not that stupid to actually buy this shit.

Notice to people, Minesweeper Flags is also a free game on MSN Messenger. I've played many games of it, its a lot of fun and had made me punch people.

Still wouldn't pay money for it though.

They could have updated the graphics a bit at least.

@njskora

Most American's don't use MSN remember, but indeed Minesweeper Flags is a great game.

If the trial version functions as a fully functional version of the original minesweeper, then fine. If you want me to pay for an upgraded version, I'll consider it.

Worst. Game. Ever.

If this came as a free download in a special edition pack or something, I'd cry. So paying for would make me hand myself.

Thank god I only download Rock Band songs. I'm hardcore.

As a "console boy," I can honestly say that I won't be touching this. It has nothing to do with preferring a console. It has everything to do with idiotic drones buying whatever shit Microsoft throws at them.

Also, this wouldn't be a bad thing, if they pumped it full of features. I can download a dozen Pac-Man clones, but none of them offer what Championship Edition offers. If they want to sell common games, they need to beef them up with special features.

I think I will pass. I barely played this game on my PC growing up. I don't think that will change once it comes to the xbox. Maybe if it is free I will get it, otherwise NO DICE

But Minesweeper already has customizable scenery. It's your desktop.
