Miles Edgeworth 2 localization sounds unlikely right now photo

Fans looking to get Ace Attorney Investigations 2 localized for release outside of Japan, you may want to sit down. And, while you're at it, get ready to take a chill pill -- you'll need it.

Capcom senior VP Christian Svensson made some comments on this front lately. He starts off with "plans change all the time so I would probably rather use the 'There are no plans for a Western release at this time for AAI2.'" That's the good news.

Continuing: "The costs of localization are higher than the forecasted return. And no, it wouldn't sell more than Okamiden (which has already sold more than the first Investigations). Could this content show up on some other platform somewhere down the line? Possibly, but there's nothing on that front for me to talk about. I realize there are fans who would like to have this and I'll be sure to explore ways that could happen viably in the future with our strategy and R&D teams but no promises."

It's not impossible, sure, but these remarks aren't particularly reassuring. Also, Okamiden sold something, anything? That's kind of shocking to me.

@ Epic-KxDtoid,

Really? I enjoyed Apollo and all, but I felt they crapped on Phoenix's character while creating a new one (Apollo) that had no real personality to speak of.

Gavin was the standout in Apollo for moi - though different strokes for different folks I guess. =)

The characters in Apollo Justice are more entertaining than in Miles Edgeworth, but Miles is just....cooler. he's like the Dan Hibiki of the Ace Attourney series.

Well, I'm not crying. I didn't like Apollo Justice, and the first investigations game was difficult for me to finish. After the amazing Trials and Tribulations, I think Phoenix wright has reached his peak. The only thing worth looking forward to now is the Professor Layton crossover.

Actually when he said "Okamiden sold more than AAI" he was generally referring to how Okamiden has broken launch records. AAI has sold alot more than Okamiden but this is only through having stood long enough in the market to warrant better sales.

Honestly though the only ones to blame here for AAI not selling is Capcom. They said they're not giving up on the franchise in general, that'd be pretty damn silly. They're just not putting any focus on this particular side series. AAI had some of the most terrible localization in Capcom history alongside Okamiden due to it being handled internally and exclusively, and was barely marketed at all. Blaming the audience for not buying into it is incredibly silly, of course history would repeat itself if they'd handle it the same way they handled this particular game.

I don't care about this game, really. The first Investigations was more than enough of that spin-off. I just wanna see Layton vs. Phoenix Wright localised.

I blame whoever at Capcom thought that removing the intense courtroom battles in favor of boring "interviews" in random hallways for the reduced popularity.

also the game wasn't that good. The actual crime scenarios started getting outlandish in trials and tribulations, but they just became too rediculous in this game. Also the writing wasn't good. I don't care about chasing some random thief throughout the whole game, I'm tired of seeing the damn steel samurai, and this ge made me hate most of the characters I used to like. The recurring jokes that characters had in the old games got absolutely run into the ground so hard they hit bedrock. Every five seconds fransziska was wipping you, old bag was yellig at you, or gumshoe would "get another paycut"

@llort het: Haven't seen any mention of paycut involving Gumshoe, however there is a certain character that was at the receiving end of it...

Yeah right, they say this about every Japanese game and then releases it 8 months later.

@ tripled153

The method of release isn't the problem. The issue is whether they'll sell enough copies period to justify the cost of proper, colorful localization (i.e. not just a straight-up, likely dry translation). Making it a downloadable game, in my mind, would probably give them a smaller return than a regular physical release.

MOAR Apollo Justice with awesome Hobo Phoenix. Hobo Phoenix made that game. And the Gavin bros. I loved Hobo Phoenix. I want to know what happens to Hobo Phoenix!!! Chords of STEEL!

Layton vs. Ace Attorney MUST HAPPEN! It will be awesome!

AAI2? Eh. I finished AA:I, but didn't really...have as much as fun as I did in the other games. Logic chess might be interesting, but I need to try it to see if I like it or not...

While I wasn't as big of a fan of AA:I I still want to see everything the franchise offers to come here, in any way possible. If that mean on iOS or some other platform that may make it cheaper, then so be it. I hope this doesn't set a precedent for all future titles in that series. And I'm with ServentSaber. I'll start some shit if I don't see Layton/Phoenix come over to the US.

I know localising a game isn't cheap, but come on Capcom, it's still a damn sight cheaper than actually making a game from scratch. The games themselves have sold something like 100,000s of copies in the past, which is pretty good for a niche title, so it's not like you'd be completely out of pocket.
You know there are fans out there who will buy this game. If you would spare a bit of marketing cash toward it, and persuaded game stores to actually sell the damn thing, I'm sure you would get your investment back.

On a scale of one to "Fuck you Capcom, why would you do this?", this news scores a "Fuck you Capcom, why would you do this?" out of "Fuck you Capcom, why would you do this?"

I want to play Layton vs Wright more than i want to play another spin off.

Typical "it's coming, we just don't know when exactly" line. The added comments don't mean jack. This is exactly like the Atlus PR guy saying "no plans for Catherine" and it being announced a week later.

Meh. Despite being a fan of the Ace Attorney series, I'm not really that upset about this. I felt Miles Edgeworth 1 was pretty self contained, so any addition to the story would just be a tack on anyways. Not a big deal for me really.
