In a financial update today, Midway has revealed (among other things) that the PlayStation 3 version of Epic Games' Unreal Tournament 3 has been delayed until Q1 2008. The game was originally set to ship this November alongside the PC version of the title, which is still on track for release this year.

Epic's Vice President, Mark Rein chimed in on the official Epic forums, giving PS3 owners some hope.

"As a public company, Midway felt an obligation to its shareholders to let them know about the possibility of a delay," he wrote. "But our goal is still to get the PS3 version of UT3 in stores before the end of 2007. However, we will only ship it once its ready and is the best game we can deliver."

Additionally, Midway revealed (obvious) plans for a next-gen Mortal Kombat, a new Blitz title, and two "ambitious open world gamse." First-person shooter Blacksite: Area 51 will also see a delay on the PS3, which will ship a few weeks after the PC/Xbox 360 November 5 ship date. Europe gets the shaft on that one -- the title will miss 2007 entirely, and is now scheduled for a Q1 2008 release.

Hmm, looks like one of PS3's biggest selling points to me is possibly (read: more than likely, pals) gonna miss this holiday season. Looks like I will certainly be passing on picking up a system this season and wait 'til next Spring when this and a handful of other titles finally see release.

I hear ya linuxguy. I was super hyped about this on PS3 as well, since it will choke my PC to death. Damn these delays!

I'll take it when I can get it. Until then, back to Halo 3.

UT for me has always been a PC game. If it doesn't run on my system then ill skip it til I upgrade. Full on FPS gaming sucks ass on consoles unless its Halo.

@ Pew:

You're in Europe? The North American version of the game is still on track. I was told today that development on the game is wrapping up. It seems the decision to delay it in Europe is financially motivated, but that's just my guess.

Yeah, Europe here. And Blacksite is region-locked, unlike the PS3 version, tssss! Not that the game is a must-have, but it looked like a nice diversion. They probably don't want competition with FIFA/PES in Europe, since we eat those copies for breakfast in the Old World :)

Almost relieved by this, as there are so many games coming out in november, but it still kinda sucks.

reading this i agree even more now that i see how ps3 titles get pushed back, the ps3 is probably going to be a big thing in 2009 or 2010.

I'm still surprised this is not coming out on 360, since both the hardware and demographics are similar to the PC. Guess Sony paid a pretty penny for that exclusivity.

I'm looking forward to this for sure. At least we know that the UT team wants us to recieve the best possible gaming experience from UT. I just hope its not too modern and stays slightly more classic.

Necros: UT3 is being developed for the 360, the issue is how/if mods will work on the Live service.

Here's to hoping that the PS3, 360, and PC UT3's are practically equal.

I don't know why developers are not doing the cross platform multiplayer.

They also announced a new Ballers (!) game and TNA Impact for next year. I saw that on a news wire post.

PS3 is a horrible system for shooters, plus PSN is really shotty anyway.

Put it on 360 first and they'd make way more cash, but noooo, deals deal deals, and fuckin contracts. Screw that.

Actually, UT3 is confirmed to have relatively low system requirements to run minimum settings (i.e. low texturing, 1024x768): as low as simply a GeForce 6 series and 512 MB RAM. So unless you bought your system straight from the brick factory, you'll be a-ok.

That was for those at the beginning who said it would kill their system to play.
