When we first heard about Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, we shared a good laugh. After playing the title, we’ve come to understand that MK is still a valid 3D fighter. Of course, with any 3D fighter there is a decent amount of depth. In this latest video featuring MK vs. DC, Midway talks about some of that depth – the Super Move and Pro Move.

Super Moves are a staple of the Mortal Kombat franchise. It’s Scorpion’s grabby thing, or Subzero’s freeze spell. Pro Moves are an extension of Super Moves. With what Midway calls “impeccable timing,” players will be able to flesh their Super Move into a Pro Move, which will then double the projectile, inflict more damage, or extend combos.

In a slightly related note, Kotaku is reporting that The Joker’s Fatality that we all fell in love with so long ago has been pulled in favor of a more peaceful, T-rated version with the face-shooting action happening off screen. Go ahead and cry. It’s okay.

Joker fatality gone? That could've been my favorite MK Fatality of all time and they take it out. Fucking Ed Boon.

What? Took it out?! I know its lame but stupid things like that put me off buying their games.

Not that I was interested anyways, but that fatality was the greatest thing ever. Typical. Fuck Mortal Kombat :)

It wasn't Ed's fault, he tried to push T rating to the MAX. It's the ESRB and DC's fault for being so protective.

oh what the fuck.. I call shenanigans.
I wasn't all that interested in the game but was actually thinking about picking it up just because the joker's fatality was hilarious. ah well. more money for the prime titles this fall.

SHAZAM lightning strike FTW!!!

Joker's fatality was "cool", but who needs it, really? You do the fatalities a few times, they get old, whatever. If the game is solid, a changed fatality isn't going to kill the whole title. Anyone who was going to purchase a $60 game for one animation asset is dumb, especially someone who has access to the internet.

Still jazzed about this.

Honestly, every single one of us should've known that the Joker fatality wouldn't last. Shooting someone in the head is one of the sure-fire ways to score an "R" or "M" rating, in any medium. Even though it wasn't gory, I would've been surprised if it had made it into the final game.

As others have said there was no way it was going to stay in and keep a T rating. I'm buying it anyway so it doesn't really bother me.

all i could think about watching this thing was how the whole "experiment and link combos and make up your own" thing sounded cool when said, but actually seeing it being done looked like every character had an infinite combo. the air fans with kitana, sonya's grabbing with the legs thing.. supermans air sucking, punch then laser.. looks like it could be repeated over and over until victory. if that's the case, DO NOT WANT. Anymore.

For the Joker's fatality, they should have had him pull the trigger and reveal the bang flag, and then pull the trigger again a shoot the flag poll into the other guy's chest. He did that in Batman The Animated Series, so I don't see why he couldn't do it in a T rated MK game.

Mortal Kombat without an M rating and crazy fatalities is not a mortal combat to me. It needs those over the top crazy gorey ways to end your enemies lives in order to actually have meaning. As it is, it is basically like every other 3d fighter except with T rated "brutalities"

So, they made a cool "M" rated fatality, knowing they'd probably have to take it out, and now a lot less people are going to buy the game because we know for a fact it had, at one point, been better. Pathetic. Utterly pathetic.

Joker's fatality was basically the only possible good thing that could come out of this game.

Mortal Kombat has never been a good fighter. The whole idea of Pro-Moves kind of proves they have not a clue on what makes good combat. Everything else in the MK series will tell you they never have.

The only thing Mortal Kombat had on its side was that it was "fun". That fun has worn off a long, long time ago and nostalgia can only get you so far.

lol...pro moves.

is that what Midway Developers call Just Frames?

and the fact the Joker's fatality got cut means whatever coolness this game had (which was just that.) has now officially left...if true.

The game can't really be judged until it comes out. If jokers fatality being cut (if true) means it's a not for you, then you weren't the intended audience I guess. Granted I am annoyed about it myself.

The game actually looks more interesting in that video than I expected. Might have to pick it up when it drops in price a month after release. It's definitely not worth $60, $30? sounds more like it. As someone earlier stated though, the fatality being removed kinda sucks but you use it 3-4 times then it loses it's edge anyway. Pencil fatality still would have been better, but I digress.

God damn ratings board. Is this world ever going to be sensible? We need to start an organisation like scientology where we gather money and resources and infiltrate various aspects of the world government.

and after watching that trailer, I see Midway didn't do any "big changes" to the gameplay like they kept bragging...which I figured.

same ole unbalanced nonsense from the past 3 3d MK games. I expect everyone to have 3-4 infinites with Katana leading the way with her fan setups.

stop making sub par MK games Midway if they're not worth our time. Putting DC characters in the lineup will not make a big difference.

Joker's fatality was totally disturbing, but in a good way. I am not familiar with the character's history all that much, but it seemed like the perfect style of execution that the Joker would employ - tension, relief, then surprise.

A shame that it is being pushed off-screen.

Man, I wish we were in the 90s again. Then Midway would just sorta be like, "Whoops, we accidentally programmed in a cheat to crank the fatalities back up to 11!"

No fair, did Midway say something else than "keep the game T-rated" as an excuse? I'm not pretty much a MK fan, but sure I enjoy a good game and this one seems to be on the way of becoming a good game.
