Midway has announced that they've signed on comedians Frank Caliendo and Jay Mohr to provide voices for the upcoming over-the-top football release, Blitz: The League II

Caliendo, best known for his celebrity impressions -- including a pretty hilarious and spot-on John Madden -- will voice three roles: the prison warden, the offensive line coordinator, and the color commentator. Mohr steps into what seems like a far-less-exciting role, The Agent, who would probably get his ass handed to him by the prison warden in a fight. Peter Egan, the scriptwriter best-known for penning ESPN's Playmaker spots, will be providing the story that brings the game's fictional football league to life.

I'm not too sure Mohr and Caliendo are the type of "top talent" that will sell Blitz: The League II, but putting a prison warden into a football game is a step in the right direction for me. It's not hell demons, but I'll take it.

Blitz: The League II is scheduled to hit Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this fall. Anyone looking forward to this bone-crushing alternative to Electronic Arts' Madden?

The first B:TL was fairly fun to play. Much more entertaining than Madden. Though, I'm one for over the top arcade stuff rather than simulator type games. We play games to escape reality, no?

Are the teams/players all fictional?

frank caliendo and gigantic balls on midway's behalf could make this hilarious. i really hope they take a no holds barred approach to lampooning the hell out of maddens' jibberish.

@dv8withn8

I dont think your 'reality' is playing in the NFL, so Madden is as much an 'escape' as anything else.

Thank you for including the quotation marks when using the phrase "top talent" in relation to Frank Caliendo and Jay Mohr.

@Arttemis Yup. The first one came out right after EA secured the Exclusivity deal with the NFL - so fake teams, fake players, and a storyline to string them altogether.

The first was great great fun. Looking forward to the sequel. I hope they've tweaked the RPG "juicing" so that crazy expensive experimental injections actually do anything.

I generally stay away from lame ass football games. But I remember playing Blitz on the N64 and enjoying it, but I haven't really followed it since then.
