I'm not against advertising on Live "per se". It's actually helpful, if it is about stuff on the system itself.

This would be bearable if the ad revenue was going toward something that benefited gamers in some way. Is it? Where's it going?
PSN is free. I don't have to deal with ads unless I drag myself to the PSN Store and even then it isn't that bad.

For the record, before everybody starts shitting all over MS, there are no ads on Xbox Live that don't either involve gaming in some sort or a contest that is sponsored by whoever (like the Green Lantern spots recently were links to a contest you could enter for prizes).
I, for one, don't mind videogame ads. I mean, I do like videogames and like to know when demos, extra content, sales, etc are available.

Don't be ignorant. Xbox Live offers tons of worthwhile features, and I feel like I get my money's worth. Also, if you use the internet more than once a month, you can easily find Xbox Live 1 year deals for over half off retail price.
That said, I also enjoy Playstation Plus - which also has lots of cool perks.

Advertisements are the worst thing that has happened to videogames this gen, If it's advertising a game I'm okay with that, but I'm not okay with Non-videogame things like Adidas and Coca Cola. I stopped watching T.V. because of ads I'd much rather buy/rent a season of a show than have advertisements shoved down my throat.
I can't wait for the next Dashboard update that takes you directly to ads, and forces you to use Kinect to navigate the menus.

That's a lot better than over a month, and service-wide. In the 9 years that Xbox Live has been running, since the original Xbox, 1 account has been confirmed to be hacked - and even then, it wasn't confirmed they got ANY personal data from him - they just changed his status on Xbox Live.

Another thing I've noticed they do now, is when there is a sale of games, they make sure to put it near the end of one of the tiers, so you have to go through 6 other adverts before getting to it. Its clever I guess, but at the same time, its super lame.

I don't even have to go through that much hassle. My Xbox (and I assume most people's) loads up on the "My Xbox" panel. If I want to play a game I just hit A. I'm already in the game and I have not seen a single advertisement yet.

Who cares what physical trouble it puts you through- it's the principle of it, the fact that you're being squeezed for every last dime when you're already paying too much. Basic security is not something you should have to pay that much for while using your own products on your own Internet connection either- criticize those whose security has been breached, but don't compliment MS for gobbling up all the cash its zealous defenders will allow it to. I have to say that the ads on XBL have gotten so much worse/abundant lately that its hardly worth even looking at the panels any more ("if it was even worth it before", yeah I know, I know.), even without this Kinect crap Jim's showing/talking about one day being added, in this article.
I've never been one of the people who's been pissed to pay for the service, probably because I've played MMO's and I've got this twisted sense that this stuff needs to be paid for somehow (Yes, yes, I know, that's not really how it should work and Sony has a much better way about it all, I've never EVER said they didn't.) but lately (since my blog post about dealing with them and my disconnection issues -which hasn't at all been solved) I'm becoming one of those people who's wondering what the hell we're even paying for in that subscription price, SPECIALLY when we're being inundated with ads all over the place on the service.
I said it during/after the conferences at E3 this year, I really do think I'll be returning to Sony whenever their newest console will be out. I was ok with Microsoft for a while, but things are slipping in a terrible direction that I just don't like. Nothing Sony's said or done in the last 5 years has been nearly as horrible as this stealth bullshit Microsoft is pulling.
