It is not often that I get to write about Europe and gaming with any sense of pleasure, but a recent statement from Microsoft is one of those satisfying changes of pace. Realizing that success in Japan just isn't going to happen, The 'Soft has woken up to the fact that, hey, the European market is a worthwhile investment. MS wants the 360 to dominate globabally, even if that means sacrificing some territories for the sake of others. The winners in this equation are, hopefully, we of the monocle-wearing persuasion.
"The No. 1 objective is to win on a global basis and that may mean winning some markets and losing others." said Aaron Greenberg, product manager for the Xbox 360. "Europe is our priority focus right now."
We're not sure exactly how Microsoft is going to focus on we in the PAL territories, but it's got to be better than the shoddy treatment certain other companies give us (mentioning no names, Nintendo). Microsoft already does a good job with giving us mostly timely releases in comparison to our American cousins, so it's good to know they understand that there's money to be had here. Perhaps we'll see more at this mysterious UK Xbox event that has been promised before the year is out. My monocle shall naturally be firmly fixed on these developments.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

Dammit Jim, why didn't you tell me you were the Gamesmaster?
Except for the top hat.
Could be the Earl Gray.
Also, thanks for confirming that all Europeans wear monocles. I don't know if you know this, but American movies tend to show Europeans without monocles. Pff. Hollywood FTL.
We have seen the XBox take hits that no other console could take, it's just really interesting to me, they've finally accepted that Japan is not happening for them, so they are going to fuck it off and focus more on Europe. Could anyone else other than Microsoft afford to do this? Nope.
There is room in this industry for a big predictable, yet reliable guy and a small yet inventive guy. There is no room for two big guys. My point is, europe is major territory for Sony, the fact that Microsoft want to up their efforts in Europe is serious news for Sony who are insanely trying to compete with Microsoft at their own game, a company with more money than all the gods and Sony want to compete in the same arena as them. Madness.
Also, I wonder if HD DVD is part of their new focus.
It's not about the amount of money, It's about the followers. For Instance I've never got any money from Dtoid did you?

I think that Microsoft wants to take over the place that sony had in wurope with the ps2... filling the hole in this generation with his damn hardware.
Now... any of you think that latin america is going to have some releases? or at least a price according to the rest of the world... some respect maybe?
