Recently, Sony proudly boasted that the PlayStation Network had surpassed 20 million members, putting its numbers ahead of Xbox Live by a cool 3 million. Well, it's been a while since we had the two companies tugging each others' hair and giving out dead legs in the schoolyard, so naturally a Microsoft spokesman came out to question the numbers and accuse Sony of filthy, rotten lies.
"When we talk about our numbers we feel they're active users who are actively engaged in all the forms of entertainment we offer on Xbox 360," explains MS UK's Stephen McGill. "I think if you look at the comments made on the forums, or the comments made by analysts at Screen Digest then there's questions over, well what does Sony's numbers really mean? Are they duplicates? I think there's a lot of questions there.
"All I'm really worried about is, I know I'm the largest online video on demand service in the UK, we are worldwide, we've got a great online service the others can't come close to. They're not right now. When you think of our heritage as a company Microsoft has proven we are probably the only company in the world that can offer great online experiences for millions and millions and millions of people. And that's what we do every day with Xbox LIVE.
"Sony do what Sony want to do and if they think that's right for their business to say those kind of numbers then they can do and will do whatever they want to do. Do I believe them? No."
In other news, Microsoft knows Sony's dad, and is going to tell him that the publisher has been scrumping apples. We have extended the child metaphor in a biting satire of the infantile behavior of multimillion dollar companies, a babyishness which we do, admittedly, perpetuate by publicizing it.
Oh you're only counting those that do everything the 360 offers... Not just those who Game, or DL Movies... oh wait.
Sony counts PSP, PS3 users, MS would do the same had they a portable... I'm sure they're not keep subtracting from the number everytime they get a 360 returned.
And both conveniently ignore Nintendo getting fat on families.
"My console has Metal Gear Solid 4"
"Yeh, well MY console has Metal Gear Solid 10! Hyper edition! I got it off my uncle's mate who works at Capcom!"
also if sony says there are 20 millions accounts how is that a lie? It's not like they are saying they have 20 million unique members.
also psn is also for psp so maybe that's another reason why numbers are so high
Could you spend some free time on developing more games. The last time I check, Nintendo is owning your asses.
who gives a fuck
Microsoft wants you to think they have a ton of members... are these all PAYING customers? Or customers like me who refuse to give them $50 a year to play with my friends? I can't question the PSN numbers.. because they can't be split into "paying" and "nonpaying" members. Subscribe nowto Xbox LIVE! Get banned for being gay!
The MS guy talks in circles... so does the PSN guy...
Yeah.. make some games you fucking noobs.
^ says it all and a bit extra.
But in any event, it's all irrelevant, I agree. What matters is how many consoles has each of them sold. And PS3 is waaaaay behind MS in this regard, and that ain't going to change any time soon, the way things are going so far. Sony it making one stupid thing after another, wasting their resources on stuff nobody cares about, while completely neglecting the things that most gamers want. No need to look further than the Home.
lol I watched that movie on Saturday. good stuff.
Please stop encouraging your fanboys, they are as bad enough as it is without your immature dick waving competitions.
Perhaps you channel your rage into making more and better games for your respective consoles.
ugh
As far as Microsoft's comments, it's Microsoft. They get butthurt whenever something good his happening to anyone but them.
My dad can beat your dad up!
Are they seriously more butthurt about Sony than about Nintendo? When last I checked, better things were happening to Nintendo.
I know I have 2 PS3s....and there are 4 subaccounts on each...
So just for me - 1 Person = 10 PSN Account logins (including my PSP).
