Microsoft spending silly money on 'casual' marketing photo

Microsoft is preparing a merciless marketing blitz that will see it spend more money on pre-Christmas promotion than it did for the launch of the Xbox 360 or the release of Halo 3. The 'Soft's "Live Your Moment" ad campaign will be the single most expensive investment in the Xbox brand's marketing history.

Of course, the reason for this expenditure could only be one thing. Yes, this is Microsoft's attempt at targeting "the casual and social segments," which can basically be translated as "all those bastards buying Wiis who we want to buy 360s instead."

The campaign will hit TV screens, magazines, billboards, retail displays and the digital medium. Basically you're going to see 360s everywhere. Looks like Microsoft is hoping that the sheer power of money will curb Nintendo's dominance in the games industry.

I somehow don't think Reggie Fils-Aime is shaking in his savory boots yet.

Here is one example of an already disgruntled gamer over this!

Where do they get this money from? It seems if they are making any kind of profit over Sony they are throwing it toward advertising, weird projects, and buying exclusives.

I would wager that the money is coming from Microsoft's more... profitable divisions.

Might was well leveraged your strong suit, MS. As long as it works, go for it.

360 IS quite profitable unlike the PS3, this is the year where the Wii owners of last christmas get tired of wii sports and need a new machine. The idiot brigade will turn to the cheapest option first. 360. Money well spent as far as MS is concerned.

Like I've said many times before, unless the 360 gets a waggle-stick and a wiggle-board, the casuals just aren't interested. And neither is their current fanbase.

Oh man.

This is a pretty harsh Sterling-Style take down of the 360.

Just scathing. You really hit the nail on the head in regard to excessive advertising being annoying!

Maybe next we can confront the problem of solicitors (that'd be a "tout" to you) calling during dinner time!

nintendo's recent habits suggest they are on a shetland pony rather than a high horse.

Considering that Wii Music will outsell Gears 2, I lol at the premise of trying to get grandma onto the 360.
