Microsoft shrugs off reported Xbox 360 flaws photo

Do you remember us telling you about how a thermal design expert was hired to look around in the Xbox 360? As David said, 'badness' was found, as the expert uncovered problems with the fans and heatsinks as well as with heat management. Now it seems that Microsoft is dismissing this expert's negative findings on both a current and repaired Xbox 360.

Games Radar received a response from Microsoft on this issue, with a representative saying,  "There is no single root cause or systemic issue with any of the Xbox 360 consoles."

With such a complex consumer electronic product that contains more than 1700 different components and 500 million transistors, there are obviously many things that can malfunction at any given time. The vast majority of customers who own Xbox 360 consoles continue to have a terrific experience. "As Microsoft didn't participate in the test, we cannot comment on any findings."

Really? Is that their way of saying that it's not just fans and heatsinks, and that just about everything could be broken and anything could go wrong? Are they denying that the issues are heat-related?

Look, we know about the warranty issues and extensions, and many of us have had first-hand experience with broken Xbox 360s. Just fess up already!

tazarthayoot's argument doesn't say much if he has to reach back to the early days of PS2 failures to try to make his point.

@Jester

My PS2 died of DRE in 2005, and I put that bastard down last year after the refurb came back from Sony and failed a second time.

@frygar

I don't disagree that the 360 has some serious hardware issues, but I take task with anyone claiming the PS3 will just make miracles. You're proclaiming an indestructible machine for something that hasn't existed as a real product for more than 12 months.

@hexfix

Don't drag lair into this. Bring shit that doesn't underwhelm. I was excited for Lair back when it was called Panzer Dragoon.

As for interfaces, you can customize both on both consoles. The exception is that the 360's custom features don't make all the text disappear when you apply custom backgrounds to it. I changed mine on my PS3 BACK to the standard black because I couldn't read anything under any background I'd tried out on it.

Oh, and the XMB has and always will suck. It's a game console/computer/whatever, not a cell phone.

Are you guys really sucking off Sony's teet that hard? Are you that brainwashed, honestly?

The point that I made was a valid point. The sony hardware had problems, they denied it, until 2 million people came out against them, then they admitted, and even then, they only admitted after they had to settle a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. Do you fucking twits not understand what a class action lawsuit is? From the fucking DICTIONARY:

A lawsuit in which one party or a limited number of parties sue on behalf of a larger group to which the parties belong. For example, investors may bring a class action lawsuit against a brokerage firm that has actively promoted a tax shelter without having adequately disclosed the attendant risks

They denied it, and continued to do so, until they were backed into a corner and the only way out was to pay up.

Keep in mind, DRE didn't start becoming an occurence until almost a year or so into the PS2's lifespan. Give the fucking system another 6 months, I promise you there will be an issue that comes up, and I cannot wait to laugh in all your fucking faces.

@Jester

Have you ever tried to prove a point by just pulling shit out of your ass? I bring up the PS2 as an EXAMPLE. If you google "sony hardware problems" you bring up issues with not just the PS2, but the PSP, Sony computers, camcorders, dvd players, etc etc etc. The ps3 is still in it's infancy. Give it time.

You fucking fantrolls I swear to god.

@DVDDesign:

But that's just it - when the original Xbox dropped, were their constant founded reports of the system breaking, as much as the 360? What about the PS3? It's been close to eight months now - have we been getting a lot of negative feedback on it?

I don't disagree that - god forbid - one day, all PS3's *might* univerally crap out. But I'm hedging my bets on that scenario not happening - if it were a poorly designed machine, then problems would have been popping up already. And that's what happening now with the 360, and what happened back in 2000 with the PS2. Your comparison's valid - kinda - but honestly, it'd have more weight behind it were the comparisons all consoles from the same gen. In this case, it's pretty easy to see that MS dropped the ball, especially after seeing the sheer quality put into the original Xbox.

I stand by my original statement abotu the 360: Bad console. Good games.

*I should probably mention that the 360 issues started appearing from day one. This was followed by the infamous "3% - 5% defective" PR line from Moore.

Microsoft are offering 3 year warranties for said problem. If it happens, they'll take care of you. Sony never did any such thing.

I am not denying that there are problems with the 360. I for one have never had ANY, but I know that isn't always the case. Snaileb has had at least 3 360's, but he still swears by it, so what does that say about the system versus a ps3 or wii.

Snaileb owns both a ps3 and a wii as well, and barely touches the both of them.

The original xbox shipped with a potentially faulty power supply that had to be recalled.

In case you forgot.

PS3 is an excellent BluRay player. Handful of okay games that are exclusive, but nothing anyone needs to fret over. It's not as though exclusive means forever anymore. Right?

They also had to release a new controller that fit in mortal sized hands.

Tazar isn't even picking a side (unlike you trolls)

He's simply playing devils advocate (unlike you trolls)

Now that you guys try to continue to carry on a redunant conversation about which console breaks and why or how long ago, all we do is sit back and laugh at you internet matlocks try and reason with a bias opinion.

And all we can do, is laugh. It's like watching a car wreck.

Seriously, you guys suck, just STFUAJPG.

Their response sounds like a steam engine car salesman's response to the combustion engine. "There are thounsands of explosions each minute and any one of them could go awry!"

where the fuck did all these trolls come from??

I hate Sony with a passion.. their TVs, their CD players, the MINIDISC player (OMfuckinG what a piece of garbage that thing was), their memory sticks, their video cameras... the list continues. You pay for the name and nothing else.

But, you won't [b]ever[/] catch me on a Sony message board dissing their products. Why not? The real question, is why would I? OR ANYONE ELSE for that matter.

Still trying to justify that $600+ expenditure Quest? I heard if you take a bath with your PS3, it will magically spawn the greatest games you will ever play... you should hurry up and go try that.

That sounded like a Sony diss to me. But yeah, way to slag on a video game console. Obviously, video game consoles are highly trained martial artists, but strangely, always opt not to lay the smack down on those who naysay them. That must be why folks love taking their aggression out on them.

@frygar

If you scroll up a little tiny bit you can see that this is actually a Microsoft-related post. I know this because, as I mentioned before, you won't see me on a Sony board because I do not own Sony products at this time and have no interest in what those who do have to say.

I never said I wouldn't diss Sony.
