Do you remember us telling you about how a thermal design expert was hired to look around in the Xbox 360? As David said, 'badness' was found, as the expert uncovered problems with the fans and heatsinks as well as with heat management. Now it seems that Microsoft is dismissing this expert's negative findings on both a current and repaired Xbox 360.
Games Radar received a response from Microsoft on this issue, with a representative saying, "There is no single root cause or systemic issue with any of the Xbox 360 consoles."
With such a complex consumer electronic product that contains more than 1700 different components and 500 million transistors, there are obviously many things that can malfunction at any given time. The vast majority of customers who own Xbox 360 consoles continue to have a terrific experience. "As Microsoft didn't participate in the test, we cannot comment on any findings."
Really? Is that their way of saying that it's not just fans and heatsinks, and that just about everything could be broken and anything could go wrong? Are they denying that the issues are heat-related?
Look, we know about the warranty issues and extensions, and many of us have had first-hand experience with broken Xbox 360s. Just fess up already!

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Let this entire topic just die. Every third story on every goddamn videogame blog on the internet is about how some jackass looked inside a 360 and saw something he didn't like.
ps3 is far superior. it's a shame the programmers cannot for the life of them get their heads around the cell and change their code to true multi threaded code with better memory management.
Sure you could say you owned it earlier but owning the PS3 now is not any different than then, except Motorstorm is NOW out.
Get the fuck over it, all systems have problems, they eventually get fixed, and that's the end of it. Don't fucking act like your big black box is infallible. Quit acting like Sony is impervious to the same problem, which as I stated before they are NOT, and get over yourselves.
It would have more impact if it were a unicorn.
I agree. WTF, not putting in Magical Pony Candy Shitters like the PS3 has. Jeez, what were they thinking?
Dude, your bio reads like Jack Tretton is sucking your dick as we speak.
Don't post fanboy statements like the PS3 is teh awesomez without some proof to back it up. So far, having both systems, and playing games on both, they're fucking equal. EQUAL. EQUAL
Neither one has thrown down a game that just truly trumps the other completely. Tilting isn't going to beat the pants off of MS.
And accusing MS of being the Borg of all companies? WTF is Sony exactly? Last time I checked, if I wanted to buy a TV, I could buy a Samsung, LG, etc, etc, etc, or I could buy a Sony which has a $50 premium tacked onto the price of everything they sell because it says Sony on it. Wanna buy a camera? Buy a Sony memory card. Busted power cable? You'll need to get a Sony one. Need a replacement screw? That's a $120 Sony screw of course. You'll probably want the $15 Sony screwdriver to remove and replace that busted screw.
How many PSX systems had to be tilted on their sides to run? Misaligned lasers in the PS2?
Jacked up D pad and SQUARE buttons on the PSP.
The Sony VAIO line is shit. Worst computers known to mankind. And I've used Gateway machines before.
Don't pat yourself on the back for buying a PS3, hex. You can pat yourself on the back for not buying a 360, though. Besides, MS is fixing the RROD'd 360's. I haven't had any new issues with the new one they sent me in May.
Comparatively, my PS2 got a DRE after 6 months. The replacement PS2 that I had received also had a DRE within 6 months. The third PS2 I received had a DRE after 8 months.
Damn! A little butt hurt over the situation I see. Why must everyone on this site bring up other consoles problems when there are obvious problems with console they like?
D-E-F-E-N-S-E
If you had read what I wrote previously you would see:
Get the fuck over it, all systems have problems, they eventually get fixed, and that's the end of it. Don't fucking act like your big black box is infallible. Quit acting like Sony is impervious to the same problem, which as I stated before they are NOT, and get over yourselves.
I said ALL game systems suffer from problems at one time or another. They get fixed, you move on. You don't zero in on that one single solitary problem and act like your system of choice is infallible, because it never is.
I am not a fanboy by any means. I have a wii(although I hate it), I have a 360, and when I can afford it, I will buy a PS3. I'm defending against fantrolls, not systems.
Because trolls and fanboys think that the ONE console they could afford is infalliable, and that owning it is akin to being blessed by God.
People have shit fail. Suprise. Get over it people. Everything breaks.
That's what's being defended.
Understood. Just tryin' to stay on topic and not let it get out of hand. I do see your points as far as nothing being perfect though...
Sewer Shark is awesome, too bad you lamerz won't ever get to play it, because you chose the SNES.
You left stains on my couch from last week. Next time, put a towel down. Snaileb was much cleaner about the whole affair, honestly.
Don't act like it's infallible, because it is, and it will be. I cannot wait for it to happen so I can meatspin it in your face you fucking troll.
It's not flawless. Sony lives in a fucking vacuum of denial until "they" get a great idea and then the press and the rest of the sighted world point out that someone else already has that.
Also, I have to fucking install anything I download from the PSN? Why am I installing a demo? Why am I installing anything on a game machine? I didn't have to install Geometry Wars when I got that over XBL. I downloaded it and started going to town. Instead, if I wanna try out Heavenly Sword, I have to spend an additional 5-6 minutes of watching a progress bar before I get to play, AFTER I waited an hour for the download to complete. On the 360, when it's done, I can play it. Right then.
The PS3 doesn't have intelligent switching of 480p and 1080i/p on the settings of the console. If I plug the PS3 into a regular TV, I have to setup the composite cable settings, change it to 480p, blindly press an accept button I've never seen, and then change cables over. Because if I do it the other way, I get a jacked up rolling signal that's indecipherable, and I ain't pecking my way through that to get to a 480p friendly signal.
360 has a switch. Flip it, it's HD, flip it again, it's SD.
Nothing's flawless. Even diamonds have their flaws.
I can see it now, the music from the star trek episode where Kirk fought the Gorn will be playing and in the end there will be naught but tears and mushroom prints.
Excellent way to start my morning.
The 360 is a broke-ass console because of flagrant design flaws.
Everyone knows it. MS, naturally, is denying it as best they can, but at least they're fixing them. I do giggle at the thought of Jeff Bell screaming this press report Taliban-style, however, because that's what it sounds like:
These are peaceful baby-milk factories! We make baby-milk! Not weapons! Only baby-milk! Nothing more to see here!
dvddesign: Weird I'd be pissed if I could only play my 360 for 5 days every few months, but I guess we all look at gaming differently.
It'll happen. Just you watch. They'll all probably fail the day that MGS4 comes out.
I have one too. I just dropped it for the third time last week. Runnin' strong. A few blank screens and disk errora every one in a while, but all is good after a reset.
also 360 rox hardc0re to teh max for reals
Yeah, my 360 failed twice. And I'm looking into a PS3. Currently, the 360's looking a little worse, but who knows.
Someone try and flame me; it's near impossible for a fanboy troll to take on a epic troll.
blame nintendo for sony even being in the console market, blame nintendo for forcing ps3 and 360 out before they should of come out. the game cube fails, so nintendo announces the revolution way ahead of time, microsoft and sony rush their systems to market. and thus creates this whole situation.
i imagine the 360 would be better if they could of worked on the design longer.. but still. i hate microsoft, their os stuff, and their hardware, the zune and the xbox, and the 360. not a fan ever. i hate their controllers, i hate their advertising's on xbox live. and i hate their interfaces..
ps3 has plenty of titles now, and with in a month a lot of cool exclusives. lair, heavenly sword.
You're absolutely right, hardware is fallible. Everything is prone to break. The PS2 was exceptionally flakey. But...
Sony got their shit together and made the PS3, which is about as indestructible as the SNES and original Xbox. I don't get why the 360 is so flimsy, especially after the built-Ford-tough prequel MS had unleashed.
It's a badly designed console with good games. What else can be said?
