Microsoft's movie download service is broken photo

At least for me it is. I started my V for Vendetta download yesterday some time around 3:30 or 4 p.m., I'm not quite sure when exactly. Well, I wake up on a very lazy Thanksgiving morning to find that my download was stopped (second time this happened) and when I restart it, it currently sits at 18% completion. What a great service Microsoft! It's like you made the downloads so slow because you wanted to give Netflix a chance to get the movie to me before you can. Genius, and really gracious of you too!

Is anyone else having MAJOR problems with this service? Am I the only one that Microsoft seems to want to play this cruel joke on? Should I just give up on this and download the Lost Planet multiplayer demo? I'm so torn.

why you would download V for Vendetta BEFORE lost planet demo is something i dont think i want to hear the reasoning for...

however concerning the shitty performance on the movie... what do you expect? the shit just released, same thing that happened with the wii and the ps3 services when they came up and if i recall correctly the same thing happened when live started offering downloads of stuff. itll be rocky for a few days, give it some time. if its still doing it ina week, then there is a problem...

but while every fucktard in the universe is trying to download the same movie because its the only good one on a brand new service, expect hiccups.

Yes, stupid me for expecting something to work. Damn I suck. Anyway, I did stop the download and went ahead and downloaded Lost Planet. Damn that was fun. Back at 20% for V, hurray!

I am also having MAJOR problems with the service. 18 hours and only 57% done! Hell, I could have downloaded Vista 20 times by now!

Summa must be new to the intertubes. I just kinda expect this crap on the first day of new services or patches on mmorpgs. I don't like it but it doesn't take me by suprise.

The team is still working away at the issues....look for an increase in performance as the day goes on. You should see a better experience by the time you awake from your tryptophan slumber.

No Spilt, it's just sad that Msoft didn't anticipate a butt load of people downloading this shit on Day One. A 5-year-old short bus'er could have told you that everyone and their mom would be trying to download shit.

Slow download speeds are frustrating, but Microsoft's inexplicable "Microsoft Points purchases are non-refundable" policy is maddening. I downloaded the HD version of "V" last night only to find an incomplete 6.1 Gig video fle in my system memory. I had 8 Gigs when I started the download, so space wasn't the issue. I called customer support wanting my purchase refunded, but was told by a young man with a thick accent that such a thing was impossible. I asked him what he thought I should do with an unwatchable 6.1 Gig chunk of my hard drive, and he suggested that I download the movie again. What a wonderful idea. I mean, what was I thinking? It went so smoothly the first time. I understand having a policy forbidding refunds on movies. Caveat emptor, and all. But to refuse a refund for a non-functional download is unforgivable.

Don't you love paying to beta test for Msoft?

You're right Summa. They should have overprepared and then redoubled thier first estimate. There is really no excuse for the slowdown lasting this long. But still, I am not suprised at all.

Hey lostsupper,

Exactly what part of support did you go to in your call? I called last night around 10pm and asked for billing. I got right thru to a cute sounding american girl that knew exactly what she was doing and assured me I would not be charged twice. She even laughed and empathized with the need for a bigger hard drive and that we should be able to save the movies to our pc over the network. I was very happy and suprised that I did not get some broken english speaking indian. She pulled up my whole history and went thru all my purchases and then made sure I hade a trouble ticket number in case I did get charged twice. I am wondering if you navigated to tech support instead of billing?
