At this point I choose not to give corporations the benefit of the doubt in the intentions of their actions. I am however not above commending them reverse a bad decision. Good job MS.
Don't fool yourself on this one. The BSA aren't known for their rational decision-making (often starting lawsuits based on hearsay and offering rewards to current or former employees who rat out supposed piracy at their employer).

But honestly, I definitely felt that the authors of that bill saw an opportunity to take control of the Internet and start monopolizing it and profiting off of it and just used piracy as a way to gain support from some major players. After more light has been shined on the effects it could have - like completely eliminating tons of small businesses that operate over the web and websites just like this one - many supporters have had second thoughts or changed their minds completely. At this point, I believe if SOPA ever does pass, it will be a completely different monster, one with out all the underhanded overreaching bullshit.
One can only hope.

I'd say this is a pretty significant Blow to SOPA. Until now, most of it's opponents have been owner/operators of web-based services.
With MS now in opposition, it pulls the rug out from under SOPA's "anti-piracy" claim of legitimacy. As primarily a software company, MS has more piracy concerns than those running web-based services.
Hopefully this turns the tide and brings about SOPA's demise.

For once, I hope MS starts a trend for game companies and more publishers follow suit. Excellent news, indeed.
So I like to watch, like many thousands of other gamer do, Justin TV, Twitch TV. I have bought possibly up to 90% of the games I watch people play on those sites. Streaming a game is possibly the most effective way to sell a product. Not advertising, just balls to the wall actual game play sells the fucking games.
I too also like the read Destructoid's site, and is always the first site I go to, to actually read about my hobby and get the latest info. So for SOPA to actually threaten what I enjoy about the internet, is also the thing that drives my hobby to where it is today, spending cash on games, which in turn puts money into pockets of the corporations who want to end my enjoyment, which in turn will see me, and many others not giving a fuck about their games or machines anymore. So fuck them. If SOPA happens you may as well kiss the internet good bye and gaming, really!

honestly.. i think this probably has a part with the fact that this, and other bills like it, have a lot of big names opposing them.. and i don't mean corporations, i mean actual people.. granted, i could just be wrong.. but that's how i see it

Hmmm, should microsoft get credit for this since it was the BSA who made the move? Along those same lines, should MS have gotten the scorn(?) for "supporting" SOPA? Seems all their did in either case was go with the flow.
though this is good news we shouldn't forget that they were willing to support it in the first place.
"Quiet" opposition isn't good enough. There needs to be outrage from the people who matter in order for this to be overturned for good.

This really is one of the most anti-American pieces of legislation being pushed by the Hate America First corporations. At the very least every congressman supporting it should be thrown in prison for violating their oath of office and treason.

Basically, if someone reports that you are working with terrorists, the military can come and pick you up and imprison and interrogate you for as long as they want. No phone calls, no attorneys, NO TRIAL. Due process is out the window. You have NO RIGHTS. Fuck the constitution and all that important shit it says.
What's really scary is that it already passed the house 406-17. 93% of our fucking representatives think this is okay! 93% percent!

The BSA also includes Apple. Unless they have come out on their own in public support of the bill? Regardless this is a big blow to the bill. The BSA is a pretty large lobbyist group. I hope this bill falls apart and doesn't make it past the house. I mean regardless Obama already said he is vetoing it, but still. It would be nice to see if stop long before that.

If you want Nintendo to oppose SOPA, write them a letter and tell them why SOPA is bad. If we can flood their mailbox to convince Nintendo to overturn their support on SOPA, it may help
I've written to Sony and Nintendo a heartfelt letter about changing their opinions about SOPA until a better bill is written. I suggest everyone here do the same. I would have done so for EA as well, but they have no email address to send consumer comments, questions or complaints... doesn't surprise me.
