Late last week we told you that former XNA community manager David Weller had some concerns about the quality of the upcoming Xbox LIVE Community Games service. His worry was that we would not be able "discern the quality of a game among (ultimately) thousands."
Today a Microsoft representative contacted us to clarify things a bit. They wanted to say a few things about what they are doing to make sure that we'll have the "best possible experience" when playing Xbox LIVE Community Games.
“There will be many ways for users to find the truly quality, creative and fun content on Xbox LIVE Community Games, and we’re going to ensure the best possible experience for consumers. First, there will be free trials of every community game available on Xbox LIVE as well as a detailed description, because it is really important to us that consumers know what they are paying for. Second, we will have a thriving Xbox LIVE Community Games storefront for the top-rated games, highest sellers and most downloaded titles of the moment. Finally, consumers will be able to visit Xbox.com to view all of the games available on the service, easily search and sort titles by user-ratings, content and genre, rate games and even download them directly to their Xbox 360. You’ll even be able copy a game’s direct Xbox.com URL and post it on your Facebook page, or send in e-mail to all of your friends. If you want to search through hundreds of games, you can, but we’ll also be providing easy ways to find the freshest, most fun content on the console.”
I guess they're saying that the best will float to the top. It seems that we'll be relying on user reviews, which is fine in my book.
Does this statement make you feel any better?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Does Destructoid have any plans for XNA reviews/crap game filter?
Something like a 5-star system, 10 point scale, or some way for users to rate games that they have bought and played. That could be helpful.
Can you imagine the amount of blogs heralding the discovery of some amazingly cool and original indie game? If it's true there will be thousands of games, than I can see that happening in the future. I certainly trust a lot of the community.
Games also have to be approved, so some kind of games are always rejected. Games that lock up or contain stolen art, for example, will probably be rejected before they go live.
Yeah. good point.
I'd also like to know what the percentage of the amount they charge will be going directly to the creator(s). I'm not saying that it needs to be an exact figure, but if they are trying to fuck over the little guy this will end up blowing up.
If they want to charge me 10 bucks for the game, I'd like to know that at the very least half is going to the individual. I can see them taking a bit since they are going to host the game for DL and the bandwith alone would be worth at least a quarter of the games total sales...How many flash games would get the amount of traffic equal to the traffic almost assured by 360 owners...
I also wonder what the file sizes will be. I still have my 20 gig hdd, but that is getting clogged now by the 90+ arcade games and saves and Ninja Gaiden Black...
This seems more like a mini blog than a comment, but if someone knows the answers to one or all of my questions I'd appreciate it. I just don't want to see the Soft fuck over us, or the game makers...(more me than anyone else. I'm selfish)
Also, free Silver multiplayer is a limited time "promotion", which just means that someone screwed the pooch and hit the wrong buttons when giving Live For Windows PC games freedom, and made those same games free on the 360. Enjoy it while it lasts.
