Microsoft repair center rapes one of a kind Xbox 360 photo

We've all heard of the constant horror stories about the plague known as RRoD. Hawty McBloggy brings word of possibly the worst case of RRoD yet. Nathaniel suffered the RRoD syndrome just like a majority of Xbox 360 owners out there. Usually it's just a simple process of shipping off the console to get repaired. Unfortunately for Nathaniel, it wasn't just as simple as that.

Nathaniel has taken his 360 with him to various events where members of Rooster Teeth, Bungie and the Xbox 360 team had signed his console. Not only that, but the comic artist over at Rooster Teeth had drawn an awesome looking Master Chief on the 360. Nathaniel contacted Microsoft before sending in his 360 who ensured Nathaniel that he would receive the exact same Xbox 360 back from Microsoft. Nathaniel even included a letter with the 360 to insure no harm would come to the unit (which you can read on Hawty's blog).

Well, Nathaniel did receive the exact same 360 back, but some jackass decided to clean the Xbox 360 case. Keep in mind that all the custom work was done with sharpie so some jerk really took their time to destroy the work of art on the system. All that was left were a couple of smudge marks.

Seriously, how in the f*ck does someone look at the signatures and drawings and think for one second that they should clean the case down?! Microsoft assured him that he would receive his one of a kind Xbox 360 back unharmed and some guy who had way too much time on his hands destroyed the system. Hopefully he'll be able to run into the people who signed his system originally and get them to sign it again. It's pretty doubtful Microsoft will do anything to help the kid out.

That is SO not cool! By the way, Hamza, acetone will easily dissolve most types of permanent marker — it’s an organic solvent that’s the principal component of most standard nail polish removers — so the blithering idiot who was responsible for this may not have had to exert himself/herself after all.

Also, large image is large.

that's fucked up, but maybe the guys at Rooster Teeth will make things right by getting this guy replacement artwork and signatures.

haha.

Seriously though... Someone yanked his case. And put a new one on and masked it with some smudges. there is no way they would've cleaned it like that. Plus, being a close personal friend of permanant markers and plastic, you'd never get all the ink out of the plastic, since its porous.

Why does this sound like a perfect to fuck u set up. Honestly, if I was the kid, that Console should have kept it as a collectors item and not a playing console after it got signed by so many well known gaming developers.

Thats fucked up. I really feel for this guy but I guess you can only blame him really. If that were my 360 and it cracked the shitter, I would have taken the case off, got somebody to repair the box locally or just purchased a new box and put that signed case on top of it.

Still that fucking sucks and I would be really fucked off at Microsoft and just wouldn't even bother with the fucktards and go to Sony

That's fucked up. The conspiracy nut in me likes to think that the "smudges" are a disguise for "cleaning" but that the real culprit stole the case for himself and replaced it with the "authentically cleaned by fucked up MS" version.

But Occham's Razor and all, so maybe MS is just full of dumbasses.

Low and behold i got that crappy full auto plate back. Had i sent my autographed one i would have never seen it again....how messed up is that?

Without knowing if he matched the serial numbers up to make sure 100% it was his same console, anyone who gets a RROD will almost always get back a different console, no question. Personally, I would've gotten a new console and done a case transplant and sent the old system in in the new case.

Wow. But it kinda serves him right; if it's as sentimental as he said it was he should have kept it working or not. I'd just get another 360 and keep my, albeit non-working launch 360 and take it with me on bill and ted-ish adventures keeping a fresh, new one at home to play on.

But it's a little too late for that isn't it? And even if he gets all those signatures back it won't mean anything; It's different to have an object in your hands being signed in front of you (accumulating signatures over the years)and receiving something signed already.

This pissed me the hell off when I read it. How batshit stupid do you have to be to think that the user wanted the box wiped clean? And if it was for some supposed policy-related reason, that's horseshit. MS had better compensate him for it tenfold.

ARGH. I hate stupidity.

I feel bad for this dood. I emailed the person over at Hawtymcbloggy to see if I can lend my services to Nathaniel. I'm going to see if he want's a custom faceplate free of charge, just so he can have something (granted, not as sweet as the actual signatures) that will maybe help out a bit.

While it does suck pretty hard, I've got to say shame on him from trusting that no harm would come based on the words of some customer service rep.

If that were my 360, there is no way in hell those signatures would be leaving my sight.

Hmmm...Question for others who've had RROD: Do your systems come back noticeably cleaner/sparklier? If so, it's probably company policy to clean them up before shipping them back, y'know, so they have that new console smell again. Which means there's probably some guy who's entire job is just to clean them up and he either:

a)didn't recognize the significance of the artwork, b)recognized it, and was told by a supervisor to clean it anyway, or
c)recognized it, but didn't give a shit, either because he was a low-wage/temp worker and didn't get paid enough to care or because he was too busy (I'm sure the RROD return center is a pretty busy place right now).

Sucks for that kid. Hope he can get some even better signatures in some kind of Sandlot-esque plot twist.

The whole time I was expecting that they had sent back a different console but definitely not that someone would have gone ahead and wiped it down. That decision completely baffles me. Even if it is procedure to do that to all freshly repaired systems I don't know why they couldn't of made an exception as it was very obviously not just some five year old's doodles, not to mention the fact that he discussed it ahead of time and included a letter.

I'm sure the person that cleaned it was offended by the "three shitsty" tag on the case.
