Fighting games are dead. Also, I recently played KI on an emulator and must say, it hasnt aged gracefully.
This just smells like Microsoft trying to gauge public reaction after all this hate on them for how they've dealt with Rare. If our reaction isn't to their liking I'm sure they'll come out with some wishy washy statement on how trademarks don't imply anything.
I never understood what liked the people about this game, as a lover of the fighting genre, it never feel fun to play for me.
i'll take an XBLA version of KI 1 with online play any day of the week. Now if only we can get an Eternal Champions HD remake, or sequel, I'd be a happy man.

When did people start hating Killer Instinct? What the hell? I would love to see a new KI game; sure, the fighting game market has been flooded with quality titles, but I am sure we could fit in one more.
If I recall correctly, the original KI never got a "true" home port. All we got was the far inferior SNES version and then a sequel on the N64. So this could be the first opportunity for most people to get a chance to play it.

Well thank God someone's doing SOMETHING with the license. The last thing I saw on KI was they were making character cards for use in Viva Pinata with the ill-fated Xbox camera.

ECSTATIC about these news! Killer instinct has been my all time favorite fighting franchise, Jago my all-time favorite character IN a fighting franchise, and Ultra combos and Combo-breakers my favorite gaming culture imprints from any game.

When I was a youngin' MK SF and KI was where it was at and I would trade in all my internetness to get a true sequel. Killer Instinct is one of those games that SORELY needs revival in any way shape or form. Glad to see that the Dtoid community feels the same.

Rares going up for sale again next year, nintendo did this with donkey kong country so when they lost rare they would keep the IP
My feelings are similar to Sander van Hoorn's. Rare are no more to me, and I can only sense some sort of disappointment incoming. I don't think the new set of devs would know what made the game special.
am I the only one who liked KI 1 or KI2 all day long? KI 2 was garbage when I played it back in the day and Gold was worse. I could play KI 1 (arcade or SNES) endlessly.
Rare is not capable of doing a good game nowadays even if their lives were in danger, so I'm not quite falling for this one, HD Remix or whatever, it's going suck.
A new title in the series would be nice but I hold much trepidation towards its. I'd love to see a port though, ultra-combos over dignity any day.
Yea, Jordan's right. It's probably just so they could put out an XBLA re-release if they want to at some point in the future. They may not even be planning that at this point. They've done the same thing already with Jetpac, Perfect Dark, and Banjo. Microsoft's already seen how sequels with the latter two have gone for them, so I doubt a retail sequel is in order. *Maybe* an XBLA sequel, but I doubt that as well.
For those who have a Super Nintendo and give a shit, they made so many copies of Killer Instinct back in the day that you can track the original down for less than $10 at this point. And that special black cartridge is pretty sexy if I do say so myself. Think I might do that next week. I have an itch for classic, absurd, mediocre fighting games at the moment.

I have absolutely no idea why people want Killer Instinct so badly. The original games were glitchy messes, if I remember correctly.

I guess it takes a video by James "AVGN" Rolfe to get people to notice anything these days(http://www.gametrailers.com/videos/rm1v6x/angry-video-game-nerd-nerd-memories--killer-instinct)! I swear this is true... about a month or two after Castlevania had come back on the Virtual Console, it was no longer in the top 20 downloads (From May to July 2007). Angry Nerd makes a Castlevania retrospective (in October 2 years later) and all of a sudden it's back in the top 10 VC downloads! Coincidence or the power of the Nerd?
