I find it pretty difficult to believe that this late in the game they actually sold out. Who knows, though? It's not like I was at my local Best Buy checking to see what was in stock.

Doesn't matter if their are consoles on store shelves, their warehouse was probably out of systems. Wouldn't surprise me since they liquidated their old models and got new stock of a bunch of new ones a few months before holiday season. Stores likewise did the same thing and they were stuck with low inventory for the end of the year which is a great thing for a distributor.
I'll call BS on being at absolute O inventory, but it wouldn't surprise me if they under manufactured in China for the demand of the new 360s + Kinect.

I believe this, as I was going to buy one for myself this past December...and couldn't find one in searching 6 different stores (from Best Buy to Wal-Mart to Target, etc)...
Not only THAT, i was very happily surprised that at least 2 people (my brother and a friend) had purchased me a unit for Christmas...when my brother went to return the unit he bought me in exchange for something else, the Best Buy rep actually asked him "why" because they were out of stock and hadn't seen any for close to a week...

Two of the 40+ ladies I work with bought 4GB Kinect bundles over the holidays, so I wouldn't be surprised if a ton of those were moved. Still, I find it hard to believe that they actually sold out altogether.
whenever i have been at the store, there are always 360s and Kinects in stock. In fact, the only thing I couldnt find around xmas was the main Move controller. *shrug* maybe its just bc of where i live or something... but i kinda doubt it.

I imagine we're going to get a bunch of people who say they saw some Xbox consoles at their local Wal-mart, therefore the same is true everywhere else in the world. I LOVE seeing that. A manufacturer saying they're shipped everything they have to ship is not the same as saying all retail outlets are out of stock. Still, it's awfully amusing to watch people make that assumption.

I recently went into my local Gamestop last week looking for an XBox 360, and they were sold out. So they checked every store within a 20 mile radius, and only 2 stores had 1 XBox in stock each. When I asked if they'd be getting anymore in anytime soon they said that their shipping logs didn't show any for a while. Take that for whatever it's worth.
That doesn't even make sense. Wouldn't they have the higher number of units sold if they couldn't keep them on the selves? Especially higher than past years? So for example (without looking up) lets say last year around christmas time they sold 2 million xboxes. This year they should be selling 3 million but couldn't keep up with the demand so they lost...right?

I am in Best Buy once or twice a week getting stuff for myself or for work. They never ran out of systems around here. Not even just a few on the shelf, there were dozens if not hundreds of systems on the shelf each time I went in.
I suppose it could have happened. They may have been testing one too many consoles during manufacturing, overheated them all, and burned the factory to the ground.

@DAVYDOCK please clarify how M$ gets screwed over on this site. If that's the case, why not give every Kinect game a horrible score or any of their exclusives bad scores. Both systems get called out for BS. This is no different. if sony said this, there would be a article questioning them as well.

If they ran out of consoles it was intentional. If anything they underproduced them either not expecting a strong response, or in order to be able to say this later.
However, keep in mind folks, they may be using THEIR stock of 360's and not the total stock out there much like Sony was doing with the move earlier in the season .So they may have ran out of them in the warehouses even if the retail locations did not.

I went to target in my area on the 26th and they had plenty of consoles and kinects but the gamestop next to it had none so imma call BS, unless everyone was just looking in the wrong place
I'm pretty sure this is BS. 360's have been out for 5 years and never reeally saw a shortage. Either Microsoft is drumming up some kind of sales pitch or they purposely withheld consoles this season.
