Microsoft has today announced that, as of November 1, 2010, it will be raising the price of Xbox Live subscriptions in the United States, Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom.
In the United States, twelve months of Xbox Live Gold will now cost $59.99 instead of $49.99. A three-month subscription will cost $24.99 instead of $19.99, while one month will cost $9.99 as opposed to $7.99. In the UK, a month will cost 5.99GPB, in Canada it'll be $9.99CAD and in Mexico, twelve months is listed at 599 Pesos.
There's been no word on twelve-month subscriptions for the UK yet. We'll update if there's any more on regional pricing changes.
So there you have it. Xbox Live now costs more. I'd comment on this, but I have a load of cheap subscriptions to go stock up on.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Nah, it's not that bad. Time to buy a shit load of 1 year cards though.
Unless they add something worth my money before that is up, I'll just continue to do 80% of my online gaming on my PS3 and never renew my gold subscription.
anything that helps pull the gaming industry out of it's online gaming obsession makes me happier than a pig in a puddle. If you guys don't mind being molested by online gaming requirements then you can keep setting a precedent and keep telling game companies you are okay with it. Meanwhile I'll be playing deep and meaningful single player games.
PS: pretty much every game considered "best game ever" has been single player.
Shitty news, but I'm sure they're will be plenty of people who will happily tell you the service is worth it. I concur.
paying full retail for xbox live is for shmucks. SHMUCKS!
This plus pulling their downloadable games off amazon, it seems that MS is truly trying to cement their status as the greediest bastards of this gen.
Activision still has beat though.
Blasphemous activity.
I'll be playing games on the PC and PS3.
I don't need all the stupid shit on XBL, I just need online play and I'm not paying $60 for that.
Greedy fucking pig fuckers.
Seriously i don't even notice the fiver leaving my account every month
ok really though it blows that xbox is raising prices. you know you all will keep paying it. sadly i will =(

Does that make you piss poor at math or just bad at keeping track of your money?
I kid.. I kid. sort of.
I used to ignore those "Year of XBL for $30!" deals. Well, no longer. I am cancelling my recurring credit-card automatic payments and buying cards in-store.
So in essence, XBL is getting cheaper for me.
It's irritating though. On one hand, it sucks that XBL isn't free, but on the other, it's vastly superior to PSN in every facet. I suggest everyone buy up subscription cards while they last.
FUCK YOU MICROSOFT
Seriously, what's the reason behind this?
It's just not a lot of money. The way people complain you'd think you'd need to remortgage your house every month.
Lock in now.
