Microsoft must be quite pleased with their first three months ending March 31. Sales are up 60 percent, with revenue reaching $1.94 billion for their games division. The company? Try $16.43 billion.
The company shipped 2.4 million Kinect units during this quarter, which means arms were flailing around the world. A lot of you Are The Controller, it seems. Their earnings results release says that the Kinect is the fast-selling consumer electronics device in history. Is that right?
System sales were also strong -- Microsoft moved 2.7 million Xbox 360s in the same time period. I expect things to blow up even beyond this for Microsoft when the finally announce their Kinect-based lawn mowing sim for Xbox 360.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Haven't bought mine, and won't until I see how Child Of Eden works.
which means casuals and mothers are only buying the bundles and the hardcore either arent buying it or havent even bought a game yet
"I like seeing numbers of sold, rather than shipped"
Shipped= sold to retailers which is the only sold amount that companies care about
Seeing girls run on the spot makes me creepy smile.
My friggin dad has Kinect and he doesnt even play games. Just because your friends don't have one means it is a failure, right?
What are these people playing?
Except you know, the Wii also failed with third party for about 3-4 years, and I've heard that one has done pretty well.
Right. Since my friends don't have one and i have trouble believing Kinect is the "fastest-selling consumer electronics device in history", it is a failure. you are good at reading comments. thank you for contributing to this discussion.
Well, they have a Guinness World Record for having the fastest selling consumer electronics product in history, if you are keen on looking up the facts instead of what you 'feel.'
VERY interesting response, or lack of response. By this point, had this been a Sony device, sofik would frothing at the mouth in a fit of unbridled rage, and Jim Sterling would have written AT LEAST two features on WTF SHIPPED, and posted several pictures of whatever meme he's trying to establish at the time.
What's going on here? Have that many people changed their stances?
They are the companies sold numbers to retailers and since thats the only money the company sees thats all that matters
Its unfortunate that I now must turn to Sony if I want any kind of a hardcore gaming experience on a console. Microsoft is just heading totally in the direction of the casual...Something I can't go along with.
Bye bye Xbox. Have fun in casual land, playing an upgraded version of Farmville by waving your arms around a bunch.
I'll be playing games on Steam, and on my PS3.
You're right... I can't find anymore hardcore experiences on the Xbox360 since Kinect came out. In fact, when I hooked up my Kinect to the 360, I realized that my 360 wouldn't play any of my hardcore games anymore. Titles like Mortal Kombat, Crysis 2, Portal 2, Bulletstorm, and Homefront are only available on the PS3 now because third parties know that Kinect makes the 360 defunct for hardcore game experiences.
Oh well, I just downloaded Farmville for Kinect and it's definitely no fun flapping my arms like a retarded penguin just to plant some crops.
I'll be playing games on my PC and PS3 from now on. No stupid casual games like Angry Birds or Farmville there.
