All for just $60.

MS is a business. This is why they exist. Basically the news here is "business created to make money tries harder to make money."
Groundbreaking stuff, this.
THEY EXIST TO MAKE MONEY THEREFORE EVERYTHANG IS OKAY
It actually creates an interesting legal situation, because people obviously have a right to maintain their resumes and seek alternate work... however, by posting their resumes in a public place and including what could be deemed as confidential information, do they break any of the non-disclosures that they signed? Even if the resume was marked as private and only accessible by paying subscribers seeking employment candidates, it wouldn't prevent journalists from finding the information and potentially publicizing it - though then we get into the legalities of whether they could use his name or not (it being a private resume). In this case it seems to be a public portion of his resume... but it's still a rather interesting HR issue arising from the internet and the openness of information that used to be much more private and much less accessible.
... much more interesting than the words "Microsoft" and "monetize" being used together LOL!
Why is everyone so anxious to be pissed around here lately?
BEHOLD! MY BULLSHIT WITH MS.
It's not personal preference to state that their is nothing currently that is worth the $60 annual fee for LIVE as it is.
That's all this dumbass rumor is, settle down people, turn down the Xbox Live hate a little. So sick of people bitching about the uselessness of Xbox Live, yet still pony up the money every year to pay for it. IF ITS THAT BIG OF A GOD DAMNED DEAL, DONT PAY FOR IT!! Problem solved.
I understand that some of you guys feel that way, so I can understand some trepidation but I still don't think that translates into outright hostility, ya know? I dunno, whatever, I'm being preachy and it's not my place to lecture anyone. My apologies, carry on.
Ick. What are they doing, auto-renewing your Gold subscription after you cancelled auto-renew? I've heard of that happening quite a bit. That certainly is bullshit.
I don't have a 360, so I wouldn't know, but is that really worth paying for when it's free on PS3, PC, Wii, DS/3DS, PSP? Why do people put up with it?
personally i felt so bad for ripping microsoft off that i canceled my account. well i tried anyway. ms were so generous they ignored that and just went ahead and let me keep it. no no, i wouldn't have any of it, i went to the bank and canceled my debit account. even that didn't work, as ms continued to provide me with free XBL for six months before perma-banning me. that's real value for money.
so yeah i either really loved xbl or i hated it so much i want it to be physically manifested as a human being so i can beat its face against the corner of a coffee table till its cheekbones poke out of its ears. i don't really remember to be honest, i mostly play PC now and i'm feeling better about the whole videogames thing.
There just isn't anything here to justify it. Psn lets me play for free, and its paid service gives me stuff for free and discounts items. The performance isn't any better than the other networks, and there are more adds on my dashboard than features.and now come this fall we will probably be milked for something else because lets face it, has anything good ever happened when the word monetize comes up?
Unless there's some incredible changes to this system I sure as hell won't be renewing my subscription.
You can play the games you get via PS+ for free AS LONG AS you pay for that subscription. So you're basically renting games. ^_^
Also, you're wrong, XBLA titles such as Shadow Complex, FEZ, The Dishwasher, Crimson Alliance and so on are platform exclusive. To me, paying 3 euros for the best online service on console is not that bad of a deal...
You're right on one thing, though: there's not point on paying for XBL GOLD if you don't play online anymore. :-)
Now I have to say something relevant.
Oh my monies!
"TXYeti is what is known as a corporate enabler.

1. I haven't enabled anyone to do anything with my seldomly-read comment posts on a video game blog, but I appreciate the perception of importance.
2. I didn't say anything was OK, just commented that it's not news that a company, who's sole purpose is to make money, is trying to find more ways to make money. That clearly won't keep you and the rest of the idiots around here acting like this is or should be a surprise.
Something that's like $25/year that gives, say, unlimited Netflix, discounts on XBLA games, and 10 hours of multiplayer per month would be fine by me. I don't have a Gold subscription, but I would let Microsoft monetize me for that amount.
