Microsoft opens online store, unsurprisingly fails at it photo

Hear ye, hear ye! Let is be known throughout  the kingdom that Microsoft has caught up with the modern era and opened its very own online store! This store will be selling a wide selection of robust and highly dependable Microsoft products, including the critically acclaimed, incredibly popular Windows Vista.

The store is also selling a wide variety of games and Xbox 360 accessories. Well that's just plain convenient, isn't it? Nothing like drinking water from the source, right? Well, no. Not when you consider the fact that Microsoft, in all its wisdom, is charging $6.99 shipping on top.

Yeah ... I think I'll be sticking to Amazon for my online shopping needs, thank you very much.

God damn it, Microsoft ... you fail all the time.

Nothing like shooting yourself in the foot, right as you leave the starting gate.

Maybe they should replace the frontpage of the store with a giant red ring of death!

Why would you buy a 360 game in the first place? ZING!

Besides L4D that is ;)

And to think I was considering getting a copy of office home/student for it. Jesus christ, Newegg and Amazon charge around $80 plus free shipping, and MS Marketplace charges retail price ($149) with $8 on top? Such failure.

It's still a step above Nintendo's own online store. Barely. You can get anything you want directly from them, as long as it's Nintendo Power, a Player's Guide, or a part for a system (not a "I'm going to go inside this thing and fix a problem myself" part, mind you--more along the lines of battery covers).

Shipping is the least of my concern - Cutting out the middleman and still ripping people off for retail msrp + shipping is. They'll prob charge extra $20 shipping for release date delivery. It's a sad day if people support this. No thanks! I rather travel 2km to my local Walmart and buy it for $59.97 (2 cents savings) and support the student paying for school.

At least you have the option of buying games from them, even is the shipping sucks. It always baffled me why Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo wouldn't give you the option to buy straight from their stores if you're browsing for something else at the same time. Now they just have to make the shipping reasonable...

Probably avoiding real competition is part of their deals with retail. Not really uncommon, is it?

I love how these publishers are trying to offer more direct routes to buy from them but utterly refuse to offer competitive prices.

Come on everyone, it's M$ we're talking about here. Failure is their middle name. Why so surprised?

I wish companies would be a little better over all this online purchase stuff, MS dropped the ball here.

I pre-ordered L4D on STEAM for $45, awesome right!? No, not really....

It was in US funds and after the conversion into Canadian on my CC I paid a bit more than what I could have picked it up in town for. I had no idea that it was charging me US through the entire purchase process untill I looked at my CC bill.

At least Microsoft's ExpertZone still has free shipping...
But they took Gears off the list just before Gears 2 came out. >.> Probably afraid the hype for 2 would actually encourage people to finally pick up their cheap copy of Gears.

*Grumble*
