Xbox 8 would be a stupid name choice. Yeah, it makes sense to give it a similar name to Windows 8. But... Windows 8 is called Windows 8 because its the 8th version of Windows. This isnt the 8th Xbox...

It might be their 8 SKU since the 360 launch, so makes sense, kind of, maybe? Or maybe I'm reading too much into it.
Windows 8, Windows Phone 8...Xbox 8? Seems they are already trying to unify their lineup, why would they NOT name it 8? Especially if they are complementary platforms as they likely will be. What I'm saying is that it makes more sense than 720, and comes with the fringe benefit of putting the playstation in the same weird nomenclature that the 360 was in. I think I just convinced myself that it will be the next name.
Also to add to the unification theory, it's like there was a consistent line of numerated windows and windows phone releases prior to 7 and 8. We had dates and symbolic names and then numbers. Seems plausible and even likely to me.
I don't understand why people continue to domain squat when there's literally no benefit to it anymore. In the early days of the Internet it was potentially profitable, but laws have since been rightly enacted to prevent this unscrupulous practice.
If you have zero claim to the IP of the domain name, then you're going to be forced by international law to hand that domain over to the property holders. Squatter's have no rights in these cases.
It may seem like this is another case of "big business wins again" but why should ANYONE have to shell out cash because someone else decided they would snatch up a name you own first? Domain squatters don't deserve a cent.
If you have zero claim to the IP of the domain name, then you're going to be forced by international law to hand that domain over to the property holders. Squatter's have no rights in these cases.

BBWA! Is certainly a blanket statement for what happened, and yeah domain squatters suck.
However, there have been outright tragedies involving domain names and arbitration, and its too easy a forum as it has shown in the past to side with companies vs individuals REGARDLESS of the case. Some of the rulings literally read "they gave us more money, screw you LOL, E LAW FTW!!!1"
Hence the instant backlash. Plus, common M$? You know, evil empire, etc.

I just hate how people sit on these domain names. I can't stand that sort of parasitic money making. Basically, people should have to use their domain names or not have them.

Microsoft may have a lot of success in gaming... but the names of their products are almost as questionable as Nintendo. Xbox seemed to be trying to capitalize on the Generation X media craze several years too late, 360 made it sound like the system was turning around but ending up right back where they started... now Xbox 8 as a possible name for their 3rd console? 8 doesn't make any sense on it's own.
