Microsoft not commenting on rumored dashboard update photo

“Microsoft does not comment on rumors and speculation” is the standard response when it comes to asking the monolithic publisher about anything that has yet to happen. This very same line was given once again to GamePro on Friday when Microsoft was asked about the upcoming spring update. While the response isn’t particularly interesting, the reason why GamePro would even ask about the update is.

A mysterious source tipped off Kotaku about a feature of the update. A feature so crazy, it seems beyond this dimension. Apparently, the rumored update is allegedly going to feature motion-controlled menus and buttons. Somehow, using a motion controller to navigate through the dashboard is supposed to alleviate the issue of drudging through all of the garbage on the Live network.

This is definitely one of those things that you should take with a grain of salt. While I would personally enjoy using a motion controller to switch through blades and download crappy arcade titles, I think it may be safe to assume that this will not happen. Or, it will not happen in quite this capacity. I imagine that, if anything, the update would incorporate the usage of motion controls much like the Wii handles menu navigation with the retro controller. It is just a different device handling the same procedure.

But, we’ll see if a controller is announced at E3 first, before we start yelling for a Robocop spike downloader or a Matrix plug in the back of our heads to assist with our dashboard functions.

Would anyone pay for a motion controller just to use for the dash?

So, I use the motion controller to navigate the menus, then switch to the standard controller for games? DO NOT WANT!

Wow, that is really not a good idea. Now navigation through brain waves I would be down for. Ideally it would look something like the Napolean Time Machine and go directly to what I want to watch before I even know it.

I don't buy this rumor for a second, but I would like to see more codec support for media and more backwards compatibility (The Warriors, damn it!).

Yeah, im pretty sure this isnt going to be in the fall update. If anything, its going to be in the Fall or winter 09 update, as the game the motion controllers for is probably is planned for release then.

Jesus, let Nintendo have their waggle. There are millions of us out there who like to smoke pot and sink into the couch with a controller in hand. I don't need to flail around the room to have fun with my gaming system.

Get off the fucking bandwagon, Microsoft....believe it or not there is quite the strong market for what you already provide.

This would be a good idea...if motion controls on 360 were standard. As it is, speding a ton of work on a motion-control interface for just a dashboard interface sounds laughable. And even assuming some people buy a motion-control interface for another game, that's still such a small amount of the userbase who would be able to utilize a major update that it's just not worth it.

Now PS3, I could see something happening there.

I will only like this idea if the MS waggle controller is free. Since I highly doubt it will be, no thanks.

just watched Robocop directors cut the other day, was thinking the same thing about the port jacking ability Murphy has applied to pcs or whatever. makes a handy defense tool when your being attacked by Red Forman also.

The dashboard is so friggin sluggish that adding any more silliness to it is not necessary...how about making it so that it doesnt take 5 minutes to open the blade while playing a game or perhaps that it takes 2 minutes to list all the friggin games you DOWNLOADED TO YOUR HARD DRIVE....why do I have to wait for it to count?!? checking licenses or something much? blah...

The dashboard is so crappy anyway...
