Humility? Microsoft does not understand the meaning of the word. The Xbox 360 platform holder, by way of European executive Chris Lewis, has stated that multiplatform games "just work better" on the 360 thanks to Xbox Live. Microsoft said it, so it has to be true!
"We have a great journey through to Christmas," boasts Lewis. "There are key titles that are exclusives but also great cross-platform titles that will just work better on Xbox Live. And in terms of content and networking, we have more content partnerships for Xbox Live."
There's no doubt that Xbox Live is the more robust online platform, but of course the hardware itself has to work in the first place for the games to work better on it. Also, it's certainly not true that Xbox Live makes all games superior, especially if online play isn't that big of a deal. Anybody who tells me that Batman: Arkham Asylum is better on the Xbox 360 can no longer be counted as an intelligent human being.
What do you reckon though? Are multiplatform titles always better on Xbox Live, or is the PS3 the superior system for third party gaming?

WE PAID LOTS OF MORE MONIES SO WE'RE BETTER
I hate the current-gen DLC console wars so much.
Look whats happening with Aion/FFXIV.
If we're talking "fair" cross platform titles (meaning no exclusives on either side) PS3 wins. Once either side starts getting exclusive shit then it's debatable whether it's even truly multiplatform.
The worst is GTA IV and the DLC thing. That was such a dick move. So is RBN but I hear that Sony is the one barracading that.
Nintendo: "Cross-Platform Games are more playable on Wii or DS"
Curse the whole DLC format anyway. Micro transactions and DLC is what is in now just to get that extra little buck out of content that mostly should have been in the game in the first place. I'm looking at you Soul Calibur 4.
So whats the word guys? Other than the Joker challenge rooms, does anyone have a substantive breakdown of the differences between versions?
Also, I find it funny how now that the PS3 is coming out with piles of AAA exclusives all M$ can fall back on is games that are playable on BOTH platforms.
If anything, the 360 is also very good for DLC.
Orange Box comes to mind.
But because this problem has more or less ceased to be, saying it's better because of (and only because of) Live is a bit chuckle-worthy. Granted, I've never even had the pleasure of touching a PS3 controller, but I have a 360 and Live doesn't seem that hot.
360: Achievements
PS3: Joker DLC (Eidos has said that Sony locked it up for LIFE)
PC: Better graphics, a more diverse control array (you can use a 360 controller, PS3 controller, PS2 controller, N64, etc), the ability to hook your PC up to your TV with an HDMI input for even better looking graphics, and possible community created content. You also have the added bonus of knowing Microsoft is very harsh in terms of charging for DLC, and down the line, you may get some free challenge rooms as a PC owner, and the Live users will have to pay $1-5 for them.
I think the choice is obvious, unless you really enjoy The Joker. I have it on 360 because I had to review it early, so I can't comment on how good the Joker DLC is.
Opinions MS, learn to tell them from facts, while the piece above is my opinion I will never say it was a fact because different people have different experiences.
What caused them to come out and say something that dumb all of a sudden, guess the slim's kicking more ass than I thought.
I would rather this have gone unsaid. Corporate gloating is rubbish, and its even worse when I feel compelled to defend the substance of corporate gloating. I'm now part of the machine. Thank you, Microsoft and Jim Sterling.
IF it's coming out for either PS3 and 360.
First I consider a few things.
1.) Does it have online multiplayer?
If so. I take into consideration. Who else is going to get this game? Otherwise I get it for the 360, because I prefer Xbox live's interface, and more of my friends have 360s. That and more people use microphones. And the game zones.
2.) Is it a fighting game.
Unless it resembles something of a dreamcast game that used triggers. This goes for PS3.
3.) If it is Single player, or The multiplayer element is more of an after thought. I usually get it for PS3, Unless they can't get the game to run at full resolution.
4.) if it's multiplatform including the wii. I ignore that it exists. I don't want to have to waggle when I don't have to. That and they don't even bother making the game look good whatso ever. I mean the thing is more powerful than a gamecube, yet I've seen Gamecube games look freaking gorgeous in comparison. AND you have bigger discs?! WTF get some decent textures in there. I wouldn't mind some AA in there as well. Take more than six months in a development cycle jesus.
Unless it's Resident Evil 4. Then it's badass.
If games are heavy on multiplayer, or if they're significantly better performing on the 360, then I'll choose that version of the game.
Of course, since most games allow you to use a 360 controller in their PC edition, the PC stomps on everything. 720p upscaled with no AA can go fuck itself. I'm looking at you, every console game >(
I just recently played Bioshock on the PC, and it was like playing a totally upgraded remake a la Excape from Butcher Bay. I have no intention of touching Batman on a console.
If you're going to mention achievements on 360 then you have to mention trophies on PS3. Just sayin'....
Yep! That's the case, most of the time.
"...thanks to Xbox Live."
Okay, WHAT. It's better because online mode is not free??
My mention of achievements was mostly tongue in cheek, noting that the 360 version didn't have anything special about it, really.
But most of my friends just have 360, and there online thing is better for me, even though we have to pay for it...
Achievements are better than trophies according to Jim, and he was pretty correct about it.
If I had both systems, I would probably get multiplayer games on PS3 because most people I know in person and play online games often have PS3s. For everything else I would stick with the 360 because I prefer the controller.
It's a simple language issue, PC/Xbox speaks english. PS3 is moonspeak, maybe it's prettier? Maybe it has the power of Messiah to shatter skulls. We will never know because when you transition to something like English from a foreign language you lose all the nuances that make that language unique, such as certain phases (SPUs) certain quirks (like GPU to CPU shading).
I don't know if that helped or made you retarded...
Do you actually believe that multiplatform games (regardless of DLC) mostly LOOK better on the PS3?
If you do, then you're a blind fanboy.
The only reason I can think of that you'd say PS3 "wins" in this situation is because of the controller.
And I'm not saying PS3 is worse (it's the only current gen console I own), but it's stupid to say their multiplatform games are better since 90% of the time the 360 version has better graphics.
Now, before you all jump down my throat, I'm not saying this is because the PS3 isn't as powerful or anything like that. It's because PS3 development is harder and more time consuming than 360 development causing many studios to cut corners a bit.
So yes, by and large, taking into account all of the factors, the 360 versions of most multiplatform games are better than the PS3 versions.
I'm not afraid to admit it, and the graphical differences are almost always minimal at best, but to deny it, to me, makes no sense at all.
On the other hand, you pay for xbox live and psn is free. So it should be better.
yes having a strong community is good but that doesn't make the game itself better. PLaying online on the 360 is like playing online on the PS3, friends or not. Besides the community on the PS3 is just as strong. This may be de to the fact that here in Canada there are only 300 000 more 360's to PS3s as opposed to 2 million more 360s and PS3's in the states.
Eurogamer do good comparisons of multiplatform console games.
http://www.eurogamer.net/archive.php?platform=digitalfoundry&type=face-off
The 360 generally comes out of top but the differences are minor these days, well so long as you ignore Ghostbusters.
Everyone seems to be passing over the fact that he's talking specifically about his confidence for the games that are coming out the end of this year. He has a point, it's going to be an awesome Q3/4 of 2009 for us gamers.
The multi-platform titles he's talking about are probably Borderlands, Assassin's Creed 2, Bayonetta, CoD:MW2, Brutal Legend, and more that I have less interest in. I'm curious to see if those few bits about XBL was just corporate swagger-speak [probably] or hinting at exclusive content for XBL? One can hope.
Like you'd have to have a 90 inch HDTV to even notice the subtle differences between the games (except maybe Ghostbusters).
So yeah, they are the same games. Nice try, M$.
Yes, but it's been proven that with select games (COD 4, WAW), there are more games available on the 360 at a time, which is part of what Dexter is saying.
My friend down the street has COD 4 on the PS3, I have it on the 360. We compared games available worldwide after logging in, and found that the 360 trumps it every day we check. The FPS scene is simply stronger on the 360 when it comes to multiplatform games.
Also, Batman: Arkham Asylum. Not better on the 360.
Unreal Tournament III. Not better on 360.
God, even Bioshock. Not better on 360.
Pretty soon they'll be saying Final Fantasy XIII is better on the 360.
The same argument in terms of DLC can also be used for the 360 since they do hae some exclusive content over the PS3...
and so what if Microsoft paid for i just shows that they are willing to be aggresive in a market normally ruled by Sony
its fuct up when the original xbox came out the developers were purposely make their games look better on it but now they don't want to favor one system in general because of backlash but that creates even more backlash because they aren't taking advantage of each systems specifics advantages. its bullshit and should not be happening. dumbing down one console to make it even with the other console is a shit practice and needs to stop.
