Eric Neustadter, Xbox Live operations manager, thinks that Facebook connectivity on the DSi is silly. He finds it a pointless idea, considering we have other, better alternatives for staying connected to social networks. Oh those silly games system and their pointless synergy. When will they learn?
"I find the in-game uses, okay, may be interesting, the out-of-game, hey, it's a camera, use it to connect to Facebook or whatever -- I don't find that at all interesting," says Neustadter, while criticizing the DSi. "Don't we all have phones that do that? Why do we need our gaming device to do that?"
Yeah, that's a really good point. Why do we need a gaming device to do that? Like the whole Xbox 360/Facebook thing for example. Why would anybody want that? What kind of idiotic company would come up with such a pointless and stupid thing? Good job Neustadter's company would never do such a thing ... oh ... oh wait.
LOL!

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Facebook status on DS: Just took a pantsu picture! check it!
Facebook status on 360: Just sitting on the couch playing Uno in my underwear.
I mean, fuck, I can't play Farmville on the 360! WHAT WILL I DO?!
I found these two apps more or less unnecessary on 360. I also heard that twitter and facebook are not necessarily integrated directly with the blade and you can easily access that from within the game. It's kinda failed for me. Everything else with the new add-ons seem okay. Last.fm was good except I wasn't able to play that in games. zune marketplace is currently unusable b/c it does not have much contents. Facebook and twitter seem a bit odd for 360.
But as it is, Twitter/Facebook and even Last.FM are kind of pointless because you can't have them running in the background. If they were a bit more intergrated then I could see how it would be better with the 360. But right *now*, all three services are pretty much pointless and a waste of time.

This why we can't have nice things.
You guys have Twitter! TWITTER! At least you can do cool shit with game-to-Facebook connectivity than fuckig Twitter!
Words fail me.
Face Book on a gaming system IS kind of stupid. Hell I think it's a bit stupid on a PC too.
"Why doesn't Microsoft just give us a web browser on the 360, so we can go to the real FaceBook.com if we want to. "
It opens up all kind of support issues and headaches due to the fact that the browser has to support multitudes of plug-ins, etc It can destabilize the entire system or you could end up getting gimpy little browser with 1000 options disabled out the gate.
I personally like the idea of having dedicated app within xblade system and be able to access while you are gaming, etc. However, that also has other cascading issues for actual game you play while you access the xblade stuff, etc. We will see more memory and virtualization within future console products, I am assuming....

"I don't know why people are calling out Neustadter for being honest, fair enough he's a Microsoft employee, but making such a big deal out of this is exactly why most industry professionals keep their mouths shut."
It's b/c a lot of statements get used out of actual context and can "spin" into other things. if Microsoft and this guy are smart, they should keep their mouth shut and move on. This will just go away. If they make rebuttals and other statements, you will see this gets escalate out of control quicker than you blink your eyes.
There's no way it should destabilise the entire system if coded properly - it should be running in a sandbox. Supporting a plethora of different apps like Twitter/Facebook/Last.fm etc etc etc with their changing features will be just as much work as maintaining a browser for the 360. Bluntly, Sony manages to do it workably and it'd be a lot easier for Adobe to build a Flash plugin for the Xbox 360's architecture than it is for the PS3 or Wii's...

But all in all, the Facebook thing, like the Netflix thing and some others, make sense when you consider that MS's strategy is domination of the living room. Xboxes are only a tool for the job.
BTW not everyone has a iPhone jackass.
well facebook has a really good 'mobile' version that works on pretty much any phone with any kind of browsing capabilities ( I use it daily at work ) and you can't just set your status by sending a message to a specific email adress, you can even upload pictures in that way if your phone has email-support...
