Microsoft launches new site for online repairs... photo

A few days ago, Microsoft launched a new site to make it easier to register and/or repair your Xbox 360. What does this mean for you? Hopefully, it wraps you in a pretty blanket that will keep you safe and warm. Our good friends at GamerscoreBlog can sum it up for you real fast:

For those of you who require sending your Xbox or Xbox 360 in for repairs, we now have another option to speed things along.  Xbox.com has an online option for customers in the US, now available at http://service.xbox.com.

This new service lets you register your Xbox or Xbox 360 console, setup a repair, and track the status of the repair, all online.  This new site lets you create In-Warranty or Out-of-warranty repairs, and even gives you a $5 discount for Out-of-Warranty repairs.

If you're a really curious person, hit the jump to see what happened when I tried it myself.

Price is wrong

Well, as you can see, it didn't go over to well. I hate -- really hate -- Occurred's.

After attempting to register three different Xbox 360s all with the same result, I had to give up. So, while they have it up, it appears that there are a few bugs so be patient.

You may be asking, "Hey Ron, why did you try and register three different 360s?" Well ... I stopped at three, but I had more. But to answer your question that I am asking me (to keep you from asking) it is because my neighbors think there is a street intersection in my room with all the flashing red lights.

PSA: No Peter Moores were harmed in the creation of this post.

Do you think they'll notice? Kinda like it took eighteen months before they noticed the RROD. Unless this was their strategy all along.

$5 off out of warranty repairs?

Isn't that kinda jumping the gun? Who has a 3 year old xbox? I know people get disc read errors sometimes, but how often are xbox's failing outside of the RROD syndrome?

Nice... Sounds like the email they sent me the other day asking me if I still needed my 360 repaired -- the day after I received the box from them to send it back in.

Any wonder they hadn't heard from me yet? Nice pic, by the way.

From my experience so far, at least 50% of 360 users lack the intelligence to use 1-800-4MY-XBOX. I'm willing to bet that only 25% of all 360 users will actually benefit from the website. It will be the small portion of people that actually know how to use a computer for something other than porn and myspace.

@Azereki I guess you are assuming that 100% of 360 users need to use their repair service. Otherwise your statement wouldn't make sense.

@brainderailment - It was pointless to call me out on that, it shouldn't have been that difficult to tell that I was being facetious. All joking aside, it is probably a safe bet to assume that a good majority of 360 owners will have a console fail on them at some point. Granted, Microsoft has claimed to have solved the red ring problem with the newer 360's and elites, but only time will tell. I would revise my statement for you, but gimme a break here. I work at a game store and have to constantly deal with people who shouldn't even own expensive technology in the first place asking me if I can repair their 360's. They are at least three times as common as intelligent people.

@Action Bastard - Ron is right, it's around 6.5 million shipped, but honestly about 1/3 of those are sitting around in various stockrooms and warehouses waiting to be sold.

When the 360 had 2 millions customers ... i still remeber some people talking about the ring of death in a very large proportion ... probably 1/3 like right now :))) ... now Ron tell me now that most of the customers are happy customers :)))))

Yes we don't have many games right now .... but at least we have a console to play the few games we have ... you have many games .... but no console because most of the time ... you must sent your 360 to M$ to be fix ! lolll ring of death ... what a joke :))))))

Oh, don't get me wrong I actually like the PS3 and am really looking forward to a few of the upcoming titles. Heavenly Sword and Uncharted are two exclusives that both look very cool. The system is just starting to catch on, so hopefully sales will start to pick up a bit. I don't see liquidating the 60GB and replacing it with the $600 80GB as very beneficial though, not to mention the removal of hardware emulation for the backwards compatibility in favor the buggy software emulation. The PS3 has certainly had a rougher start than its predecessors that's for sure, the PS2 especially.

haha looking at those numbers and combining ps2 and ps3 still makes sony a monster. plus the ps3 is beginning to be on an upswing so look for that to increase. i actually could care less about the bullshit console war as long as good games are getting released. i wish left for dead was coming to the ps3.

well human logic says: "Dont buy something if you know its going to break," however, I agree with Ron about the PS3 slow start, basically leaving us with a Wii that plays casual games (Which is fine).

But I think people are just inpatient, games are coming these 2 coming months. Ron, can I blow your head off with my Warhawk n hear your screams? ;x

All systems always start slow, tell me what AAA games 360 had @ 8 month of its lifespan? same for Wii, same for PS3, it takes a while for developers to get used to the system, people need to understand that, people need to understand 360 has games because its been almost 2 years out. and Wii and PS3 have only 8 months.

STILL I noticed one thing, Wii is not letting developers make games that challenge any of their first party titles, thats not good, unlike sony and MS they let dev make w/e games they want as long as its good.

Ron - just don't fucking buy the damn thing if it's such a big deal to you. FTR, Sony isn't, nor have they, "fucked people" by making a goddamn video game console.

You know that line, ...it's all about choice?

People can choose to purchase a PS3 if they want one.

I do my best. Five years from now, no one will give a fuck about the 360, PS3, or Wii. They'll be too busy arguing over exclusives for the new systems, and it'll be just as lame then as it is now.

-they'll be pissing and moaning
-comparing their e-peens via hardware of said consoles
-screaming about "shipped" versus "sold"
-opting to being anonymous internet fucksticks online as opposed to playing the console they're "defending."

Gaming would be a lot better without the incessant insecurity-enabled-douchebaggery that comes along with it.

I agree with Ron, I’m tried of these arguments of ps3’s potential. The fact is, the console is not delivering what they claim. The only use the ps3 has to me is a cheaper blue-ray player.

@Ron

Be thankful that Sony / Microsoft / Nintendo are all throwing down right now. Honestly, their loyalty isn't to you, but what's in your wallet - and I know you and everyone that reads this site already knows that - but it bears repeating:

Sony and Microsoft and Nintendo are going to do whatever's in their best interest - if they fuck up, it's their own damn fault and not ours as gamers, and I still don't get why folks get so emotionally wrapped up in the business aspect of gaming. It's interesting, sure, but bitching about a company's percieved indiscretions is a total fucking waste of time.

BTW, Ron, I actually have a 360. It's a nice console, wish the backwards compatibility wasn't so gimped, but it's good to see that MS is working on that, so it'll come with time. Whatever. Also, mine bricked, but they fixed it for free, which was big on their part. All in all, it's a mix of good and bad, just like every other console that's ever come out before it.

I'm just saying, with the three consoles that are out right now, it should be a veritable gaming menage a'trois, but some gamers are too high and mighty, and thus, "won't fuck the fat friend" - and yet everyone's definition of just who the "fat friend" is differs.

It's a good time to be a gamer, if you can get past yourself (and that's not directed at *you* personally, Ron, that's toward anyone who hates any console in general). That's all I'm sayin'.

frygar put it down! i couldnt agree more. i have a ps3 and am enjoying it. its working fine and there are games coming out this month as well as the next that i want which makes me content. the blueray player is a nice bonus and the wireless internet and web browsing also make it a bit more appealing to me. i had a 360 for 3 months and it broke down. i had 2 different gears of war games and the system scratched them both before giving me the ring. i dont want to go through that again so i'll probably get a 360 as soon as those falcon chips start rolling out and that 50 dollar price drop happens. both systems have their weaknesses as well as their attributes. jus buy whatever you prefere and if you arent liking what a company is doing than jus dont buy their stuff. it's that simple.

Ron your just afraid that after all theses months of intensive bashing after the PS3 will blow on your face.

you have a nice XBL woooowwww i'm very impress :-//// when you'll get your next RROD just keep paying for you XBL while waiting for your XCRAP

I have the PS3 since last november and i never regret my purchase in any way... i play with with it everyday and by the way never watch a BD movie on it ... i know next fall will have good games to come ... can't wait for socom confrontation ... who needs halo 3 :)))) i just remember on my old xbox when i was on halo 2 thoses anoying kids playing online ... so again who needs halo 3

I'm testing HOME right now ... and it's gonna have a lot of potential for the future ... so telling that the^PS3 worth nothing is total M$ fanboy shit ... 380 games by the end of 2008 for the PS3 is more then enough for me to be positive.

no need to buy add-ons just games ... can you tell the same if you wanna watch a movie ;) by the way do you think people right now wants to buy that very expensive HD-DVD player at 179$ when BD format is winning ... like i said before ... just put all add-ons on your very defective XCRAP and you'll get a very expensive defective XCRAP ... oh but you have a lot of crappy games i forgot! ... yes some pretty good exclusives but most of the games are kind of boring games

Stop being a jackass Ron please ... Stop :))))))
