Too soon, the PS4 will be noticeably more powerful. Too late and they doubt have time to build a user base before the next big thing comes along.
Also, I decided long ago I was buggering over to PC gaming anyway, You watch, NextBox is going to try and be more of a PC/'home entertainment hub' than a games console, so I might as well graduate into the big boy leagues and get simply better experiences with my games...
You guys forgot about BattleBlock Theater, South Park: Tenorman's Revenge, Deadlight, Mark of the Ninja, Bloodforge, Trials, Forza Horizon and these: http://www.gamekyo.com/blog_article274468.html

That header picture is a screen shot from the Xbox 720 launch exclusive 'Sad Corgi: Combat Evolved.'
Some of this stuff is a bit out of their control, unless you want the next gen to launch with systems costing like $699-$999 again, and Sony probably doesn't want to make that mistake again and MS certainly doesnt want to do it.
Now if only it would stay down until I can graduate with my masters and find a job.
OR!!! The rumor of Sony and MS collaborating on a console so the whole ”No new Xbox/PS4” is just a sneaky twist on words.
It will all seemingly be coming from Nintendo's show this year. I can predict Microsoft's show right now. Halo 4, Forza Horizon, COD: Black Ops 2 all within the first half hour, then a hour devoted to casual Kinect crap. It has happen two years in a row now, and I don't see them stopping it this year either. Sony's will by way too long again, and they'll go over games that they've already announced months before. That's they're pattern, and its getting stale. At least Nintendo changes it up a bit. Last year symphony orchestra was awesome!
I think Microsoft's learnt that the 1-year head-start isn't that big of an advantage after all.
I always find new hardware announcements interesting, so this is necessarily disappointing, but I don't really feel like it's diminished my excitement for E3 2012.
