Earlier today, MTV Multiplayer's Patrick Klepek dug up some interesting Microsoft Game Studios job listings for a Creative Director, Producer, and Game Engineers to "help develop a new experience in the Halo universe." Additionally, the listing for Creative Director specifically mentioned partnering with key Hollywood talent.
It's easy to connect the dots -- surely, the project in question must be the previously announced Halo: Chronicles being developed alongside film director Peter Jackson. But what about Bungie? Won't they have some involvement in this project? Why do they need fresh blood? MTV asked Microsoft and a received a surprisingly candid, if not completely expected, response.
"Microsoft Game Studios has been hard at work collaborating with Peter Jackson and Bungie on the development of [the previously announced Halo project]," they told Multiplayer. "At this time, it’s necessary to grow the internal team to keep pace with development. Bungie will continue to remain involved in multiple aspects of the Halo Universe with MGS."
"Necessary to grow," eh? What is this game, important or something?
I just want to know what the fuck this game is exactly. Just tell us the genre!
Something!
MGS? O.M.G. You heard it here first Bungie is developing the multiplayer for MGS :D
Microsoft Game studios
also, I told you people this shit wasnt dead. Go look around 6 million other blogs that told you this game and movie were dead. It never ever stopped. It just shows a newb versus a person that actually knows real shit.
I love me. Im so fucking rad.
Nick Chester is muh heroes
I hate you Ron, and by hate, I mean envy with the flames of a thousand suns.
Your mind can't even comprehend the concept of a thousand suns. I love the universe.
I'm not surprised they are still working on this stuff, but it's sad to say I feel like the franchise peaked at the release of Halo 3. That was their moment to shine and they should have had a movie out for it's release to eat up the hype train.
Too late, Microsoft, to cash in on your cow.
Peter Jackson's Tom Clancy's Halo Of Rainbow Rings
Peter Jackson looks like an effing hobo, and a dirty one at that. I don't like his stupid movies, and I don't like him.
"Peter Jackson looks like an effing hobo, and a dirty one at that. I don't like his stupid movies, and I don't like him. "
Why so hostile?
I think Peter Jackson would probably be one of the best options for doing this movie... I hope the movie rox :-)
hey lets give him a chance he couldn't be worse than Uwe Bowle
@catsithx
Yes, it could; don't be so close minded.
Besides, Uwe Bowle may be "Bad", if you choose to believe, but he does enough of his own innovation to be repected.
For my 1000th comment on dtoid I would like to bag on Peter Jackson:
YOUR GAME IS GONNA SUCK.
Im in a shitty mood today. Pardon my angst.
At industry events, the minute a company makes an announcement, Ron yells:
"OLD!"
As weird as this might seem, I'm actually interested in this despite totally hating the game. The premise and story line told from Peter Jacksons more than capable hands, EPIC!
Maybe this ones gonna get made in NZ! I'd love to have a decent game studio within reasonable traveling distance.
Think about it. It's probably that Halo MMO that's been rumored. MMOs always seem to have long, craftily woven story lines in them, and I could see Peter Jackson behind it.
I see Halo turning into DBZ games in teh futare. 3 Games will come out per year, and somehow will still sell.
sorry to burst the halo haters bubbles... but do you truly believe microsoft game studios would release a game thats crap. They have built a franchise, which begs quality...it's worth it for them to take the time and investment to make a quality (above average) game.
I'm torn between my love for Peter Jackson as film director and my complete disinterest in the Halo franchise.
Peter Jackson is not directing this film, hes the Executive Producer (which may mean he has input and may not, but he is not the director).
Weta Digital is handling the Visual Effects, which is a company tied closely to LOTR production, and I'd say they will be crafting a lot of the scenes, so it possibly may look similar.
For those who are more interested in PJ's work, look up Brain Dead and Meet the Feebles. His early work was classic.
BlackSunEmpire: I know PJ, I have Bad Taste, Meet the Feebles, and Forgotten Silver on my shelf and I've seen everything he's filmed. But we're talking about the Halo: Chronicles spin-off game PJ is working on, not the movie adapation.
My bad.
No interest in Halo = didnt know there was a game.
Mxyzptlk: Forgotten Silver is quite possibly the most awesome documentary ever made!
I <3 Ron.
Also, I fear Ron.
Didn't they take special care not to call it a game but an "interactive experience" or something of that ilk? Makes me think it may not be a video game in the manner we're used to.
