As you all may remember, a gamer by the name of Nathaniel had suffered the Red Rings of Death on his one of a kind Xbox 360. He sent his 360 in to get repaired trying to make sure that Microsoft would take extra care with his system that was adorned with signatures and drawings from industry people. The Repair Center fixed the 360 but cleaned off all of the writing on the system.
Shortly after Hawty McBloggy told the story, Bungie stepped in and showered Nathaniel with a ton of Halo swag. Most people figured this would be the end of the story but it looks like Microsoft actually stepped in and made it up to Nathaniel. Microsoft sent Nathaniel a box full of awesome things. He got an Xbox 360 signed by the original RT signers, new artwork by Luke McKay, signatures from the Xbox 360 team and signatures from Bungie. The faceplate was also signed by a few others including Bill Gates himself. The package also contained:
- Devil May Cry 4
- Lost Odyssey
- Rainbow Six Vegas 2
- Gears of War
- Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom
- 2 ‘What’s Your Gamerscore?’ Bumperstickers
- Xbox 360 CD Wallet
- Signed picture of Bill Gates
A sign picture of Bill Gates?! Lucky! Anyway, this story is now over for Nathaniel. He has a final message thanking everyone and hoping this leads to some changes. You can read about it over at Hawty's blog.
This and that story of the Xbox 360 thief that was on Digg this past week just goes to show the power of the Internet. Also, you just got to love the "Microsoft: PLEASE DO NOT WASH" message on the Xbox 360.

Hamza Aziz, Destructoid's Community Director, has been here since day one. He was born when a tiger coughed up a hairball into a pool of ooze. He was one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before budget cuts. Hamza works as a previews editor and manages a team in San Francisco. To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
It will just be EPIC lulz if that 360 RRODs.
i'm glad there is hope in this god-forsaken world.
Most of you didn't know, but, I was going to make him a custom faceplate for free, after i read the story. We had some communications, and he took me up on the offer... but I haven't heard from him since.
I'm still willing to do it, he just needs to contact me.
Oh, and a signed picture of Bill Gates? Can we say dreamboat?
I mean, this guy worked hard to get all those signatures and then he lost it all because his 360 broke. But, now he has an even better 360 and got an awesome package of free games to go with it. I wish I were him.
Also just to point out, what are the chances that Sony would do the same thing if something similar happened involving a PS3?
Gawd bless teh innernet.
Also, fuck Microsoft.
:P
damn.
Seriously, though, that’s a great story. And I really like Nathaniel’s statement — that while all the stuff is awesome, his ultimate goal is for MS to make changes in their customer service so nothing like this ever happens again.

Just sayin'
Like, duh.
Speaking of service, if you're getting an autographed photo of Gates, it just has to be:
Shit. That Cortana really does look like a naked boy.
*dies inside*
Dinner and a movie at least (then we'll see where it goes)
FFS Microsoft, hasn't this guy suffered enought?!? Leave him alone!
But seriously, am I the only one who's starting to find these reactions ridiculous? This whole thing has become a PR circus, it's like Microsoft went "WTF? Bungie will not steal PR time from us, send out more shit! And make it better than the shit they sent!"
...childish?
really, someone needs to teach him how to make a cursive G
Was Bill Gates on acid in those pictures or something? creepy. lol
apparently there are pictures of the returned xbox on the initial post with some barely visible sharpie smudges on it
he also claimed it has the same serial number
