Microsoft has no plans for an Xbox 360 slim photo

Last week, we talked about how some professional guessers (aka analysts) predicted that Microsoft would respond to the PS3 Slim by releasing its own slim Xbox 360. However, Microsoft minister of propaganda Aaron Greenberg has stated that the current model is fine, and that a leaner system won't be coming anytime soon.

"We feel great about our console," claims the outgoing executive. "We have taken a different philosophy, adding more value to our existing console through updates and reinventing the system software. We feel like our system has done very well for us in the current form. We have no plans for a slim."

Of course, platform holders adore dishonesty, so this isn't a guarantee that a reinvented SKU won't appear in the near future. We'll see what happens when Project Natal rolls around.

Just like Sony had no plans for a price cut, Microsoft has no plans for another SKU.

if anything the 360 needs to be bigger.......some hard ware revision is needed to fix the 100% failure rate.

Who cares about the xbox slim.Microsoft here has problems with the hardware (red ring of death and the E7something Error, overheating). The last thing it needs is a Slim version of the red ring of death.

if they could make a 360 that didn't put off so much heat and fail so much I would by one- and by that logic it would be slimmer as the ps3 slim is

Damn the lies.
"We have taken a different philosophy", sure you have, expensive storage, still no inbuilt wireless, no MKV playback and worst of all it still sounds like a vacuum cleaner and runs too hot. It has great games, xbox live etc, a great controller etc but come on, fix this. Dont care for slim, just refined will do me.

They shouldn't make a slim version unless they know it won't fail half the time, and since they have "no plans", it looks like Microsoft still sucks as a hardware developer. But why complain, when the 360 works, it works, no need for a slim version.

IT could be possible to make a titchy 360 (like laptops are titchy computers), but why bother? If such things existed then modders wouldn't have anything to do.

One day I swear I will fix up my xbox with xbmc. One day. Swear.

I'm one of those few legendary and mythical people who owns a 360 that has never broken down (since 2006), so I would have no need for a new console. But the announcement of a redesigned 360 that never breaks down would set the minds of most of my friends at ease.

It's probably a smart move on their part since hardware design isn't their strong suit, and the 360 as is at least looks pretty good. If they just added in a better fan, wifi and a normal laptop hd I think most people would be happy with it.

They will just keep making updates, and the hardware will just keep getting cheaper and more tested. And since the form factor stays the same, they can update old boxes with better hardware.

We all agree that the xbox "slim" will consist of a docking bay for natal, space station like.

I'm sure they could throw something together for the Natal release, but maybe they didn't have anything planned for a 360 slim. Maybe they were thinking that this console life cycle would only be 5-6 years again, and are now re-thinking. Who knows. I'm thinking Nintendo is the one who needs a new console, and fast. Not that the Wii is in a bad position right now, but when the 360 and the ps3 both have motion controllers released, they might find their box will be left in the dust.

A slim version would make it even more likely to overheat, given less room for air to circulate. No reason to try and shrink the thing.

Slim? They can hardly get one working properly at the size it's at now.
