Microsoft graphic designer may have inadvertently announced Halo 3 for the PC photo

It looks like someone on the Microsoft Web site design team either goofed up or has a strange sense of humor. The folks over at VE3D got a tip that an image displaying Halo 3 as a PC game was showing up at the Microsoft Download Center.

Curious, I went to confirm it for myself, and sure enough, there it was sitting next to a link for free trials of Microsoft Game Studios games. The graphic features Halo 3 sitting on top of Zoo Tycoon and Gears of War, both of which already have PC versions.

The page I went to after clicking the link had a list of Games for Windows that was lacking in a Halo 3 listing, though. Only Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2 were present. That could mean that this was all just a mistake, but seeing as how the previous two games in the series have gotten the PC treatment I have a pretty strong suspicion that Halo 3 won’t be 360 exclusive forever and someone just jumped the gun before Microsoft announced it.

Is the Halo series something that you prefer playing on the PC? I had a friend who used to love the Halo: Combat Evolved port, but he kind of lost interest after the "lackluster" Halo 2 release.

Is MS trying to phase out its console?? Since they're open to letting 3rd parties create their own branded-360s, it seems like they're turning the 360 into just a gaming PC. Actually, now that I think about it, it wouldn't surprise me.

i played 1 and 2 on pc for the story, 'cause the gameplay part was as generic as it gets.
the 1st was pretty fun. the 2nd didn't really have a story that went anywhere. not anywhere interesting. and the gameplay was just as lame. i'll prolly play the 3rd to see how it all ends.
not that i remember anything from the 2nd, but still.
not worth buying by a long stretch, at least for someone like me, not interested in multiplayer.

Halo 1 was awesome on PC. But I ended up getting Halo 2 & 3 on Xbox anyways so I probably wouldn't pick up either of those PC versions. Especially if they're being unnecessarily used as a marketing ploy for Windows Vista (even though I own Vista - it's a joke that Halo 2 requires it).

If it's true, Workman called it ages ago on The Gamer's Pub.

I wanted Halo 2 on PC, but in the end the poor port got me to buy the Xbox version. I'm thinking that's what they'd prefer heh...

I played the Original Halo on my Mac up until Halo 3 came out. CTF on Blood Gulch FTW.

Uhh.. seriously what's the surprise here? I thought it was a given that Halo 3 would eventually make it to PC.

UNG!

I'm excited for this. I'll get to enjoy this without having to fork out $400 for a 360. Seriously, I need that $400 for my new rig that I'm hoping would be able to play Blade and Soul (new NCsoft MMO) or Aion: Tower of Eternity on maximum settings.

Also, WAAAGH!!

I played the first Halo on PC but found the story average at best and the gameplay very bland. I didn't bother with Halo 2 and I probably won't buy Halo 3 either.

I've heard that the single player campaing is generic but the multiplayer is supposed to be fun. I'd get it.

Yay! Finally I can use effin' anti-aliasing.

Also, much prefer Halo on PC. A bit ironic, since it's hailed as one of the best console shooters.

...just don't vista lock it. Please.

"just dont vista lock it."

was that a joke? do you know who Microsoft is? do you know what a monopoly is?

but yeah, banshees, flamethrowers, and fuel rod guns in multiplayer were an improvement on a great game for the CE port. never bothered with Halo 2 PC, wasnt it like 3 years late?

You know, I don't get why Halo's branded as the one and only best of the best console FPS. Timesplitters beat it to market and was a far better game, and each of its sequels improved upon the base formula far more than the Halo revisits did. Timesplitters even has a better story (you should recognize that as an epic burn you fags, if not go play it!)
Also Timesplitters 1 was a younger, less worldy Jetsetlemming's first introduction to level editing!
Shame about Haze, though.

Anyway, there are a thousand better FPS than Halo 3 on PC already. There are freeware FPS better than Halo 3. There are Half-life 1 mods better than Halo 3.
The PC community interest in Halo 3 can be summarized thusly: *cricket chirp*
