Microsoft 'frees' your avatars, launches another thing that is silly photo

Microsoft has launched a new feature on its Web site called Free Your Avatar, which allows gamers to import their Avatars and then create wallpapers and other pointless images for their own sick amusement. There must be a reason they'd want to do this, but I cannot quite work it out yet.

According to Microsoft, this service "will include a host of screensavers, wallpapers and festive cards to use as backgrounds, giving people the opportunity to get creative and have fun with the avatars." I believe this will be the first time we've actually HAD this opportunity to be creative and fun with the twee bastards. Not that I'd use either of those two words to really describe this glorified dress-me-up drag n' drop chicanery.

Well, whatever, nobody's making us use it. I just wish Microsoft would work on doing something that is actually worthwhile for these gormless little f*ckpuppets that silently haunt my 360's friends list.

The day my avatar can own a gold Lancer from Gears of War is the day any of this stuff becomes engaging as its own thing (same goes for Home)

Also microsoft wanted to get a jump on there avatar porn site since the "free your willy" site was taken and the site is all a fake façade to hide the avatar porn.

Hey at least it's free.

I'm not too proud to admit that I am actually making one for my girlfriend right now.

I think I'm going to need about 6 straight hours of Gears to get my manhood back.

I think I would actually pay to see my avatar chainsawing a grub in half - that's the kind of premium theme they should be pushing.

They could have addressed the issue first off by allowing you to chose gender. It's not just the pose, but the general animation style that is pretty much feminine.

Hahaha, it's very clear what they are trying to do here. Microsoft wants you to get attached to your avatar by providing all these silly little activities your avatar can be in. Then they start selling you the virtual clothes, accesories, and various other worthless items. I also agree they should be working on more relevant things, and stop with the avatar nonsense.

I hate these Avatars so fucking much I've finally broken and rid my game room of the xbox. Setting the machine to auto boot the game discs was not enough, I still had to pick one. Being forced to change the console I was utterly happy with has generated enough anger that I no longer wish to be associated with it. Irrational I know.

Fucking thanks for that, whoever at Microsoft set about this fisher price garbage in the first place.

I hate my xbox 360 more now I beat it every night with a horse whip while it hangs from a chain in leather.

You got rid of your console because you didn't want to press a button about 4 times to create an avatar?

You're either lying or a sad fucking freak.

I don't have internet access, so I haven't updated into the "Eperience".

From what you all are saying, I may be one lucky son of a gunn.

Timmeh, I have other consoles and things I can do. But I'm sick of unrequested changes to my equipment. If They wish to attract the Wii market then so be it, I do not need to be involved.

Nothing sad about not liking this shit.

If we're going to have avatars, can we at least have some non-homosexual clothes. Cuz really. No, really.

Wow, calm down - at the end of the day it's a game system and the games haven't changed. The interface changes just change how you get to the same features that have always been in there. In fact now the 360 has even more of a reason to be in the living room with the netflix application.

AgentMOO: I actually agree with you on the first bit, it's an irrational anger I'm afraid. The type that tells me if I dislike the wallpaper, leave the room because I am hardly starved of other options. Know what I mean?

That aside you USA peeps need to remember you are the only ones who have NetFlix. At all. I watch very few films, and can pick them up on BluRay if one is to my taste.

I feel like I have been forced to wear a t-shirt with a pony and rainbows on it by my favourite pub. Except the pub was the xbox, of course. And the pony is pathetic.

(I'll calm down now, as you suggest.)

The disparity between what US and Japan recieve vs. the rest of the world is an industry-wide epidemic. Digital distribution should break down these geographical barriers, but it is ironically subject to the worst cases of region locking.

AgentMOO: PSN is actually shockingly worse. Region free console but not DLC. I bought a US import CoD4, maps from UK store would not work, and this is a trend. A really stupid trend.

The snow globe is better than this. I could at least amuse my son for a few minutes by shaking the globe onscreen.

Avatars pretend to be excessively cool to me, and nobody cares about the ear shape.

Well, Miis started the same way, so who knows, maybe in a couple of months we'll have a Check-My-Avatar-Out option...
