Microsoft drops 31-Xbox-360-game bomb on Japan photo

At a press conference today in Tokyo, Microsoft decided to drop a press conference bomb of 31 games for the Xbox 360.

After patting its own back and mentioning that over 1 million Xbox 360 units have been sold in Japan, Microsoft announced a "Thank You" campaign. Over 1 million MS Points will be given away as part of the promotion, along with a free -- wait for it -- dashboard theme.

So what of these 31 one games? Was there a good reason I stayed up until 2 AM Eastern to bring you this information? Hit the jump and find out.

Magna Carta 2 (Namco Bandai, August 6 release)
Tekken 6 (Namco Bandai, Fall 2009)
Lost Planet 2 (Capcom, New trailer showed off the game's four-player cooperative; video should be available on Japanese Xbox LIVE Marketplace today)
Dead Rising 2 (Capcom, new trailer showed gameplay; video should be on Xbox LIVE Marketplace today)
Bayonetta (Showed off same trailer, but demonstrated live gameplay!)
Mass Effect
Halo: ODST
BlazBlue
King of Fighters XII
Samurai Spirits Shin (Exclusive to Xbox 360 in 2009)
Lode Runner (XBLA)
Banjo-Tooie (XBLA)
Virtual-ON (XBLA)
Mega Man 9 (XBLA... seriously, this isn't out in Japan yet? What the hell, Capcom?)
O-D Beatdrop (An XBLA game by Arc System Works; pronounced "zero to D"; a rhythm puzzle game)
Space Invaders Extreme (XBLA)
Puzzle Bobble NEO!
Garou Mark of the Wolves
King of Fighters 2002: Unlimited Match (XBLA in 2010)
King of Fighters+ Sky State (XBLA in 2010, an overhead shooting game?)
Final Fantasy Crystal Defenders (XBLA, already available...mentioned anyhow)
Yosumin LIVE! (XBLA)
Project Cube (Square Enix title)
0 Day Attack on Earth (Square Enix XBLA title, 3D shooting)

---

How many games was that? 24? Well, Microsoft ends the press conference with a montage blast of titles, all of which should have you flipping your lids over. This includes: H.A.W.X.; Wanted: Weapons of Fate; Top Spin 3; Bionic Commando; MLB 2K9; Elder Scrolls: Shivering Isles... wait, what? Oh, this is ridiculous. A Gears of War 2 localization? Jesus.

We're positive 31 -- if not more -- games were shown off at today's Microsoft press conference. We're also positive that anything we missed won't be, well, missed.

Wow, this definetly wasn't worth staying up for. The only interesting things on the list are 0 Day Attack on Earth and O-D Beatdrop. Blah.

I'd say that was worth staying up for!! King of Fighters 13 (unless that's a typo)!? A new exlusive, two new trailers!? Two new Square Enix titles!? Woohoo!

I was going to be a downer and say no, this wasn't a good thing to stay up this late for, but I didn't. Because one, only unhip cats are like that and I'm pretty hip as far as I know. And two, Blazblue and King of Fighters XIII? Even Dead Rising 2?

Sure, these are mostly videos and announcements but I'm all for seeing more about these games.

Never could stand Garou, but KoF2k2UM will sit nicely next to KoF98UM on my 360 (once it finally gets released). Now how about SFA3:HDR? I'd sell other people's kidneys for that.

I believe the Mass Effect mention was a reference to a "greatest hits" type of thing. As for me missing anything, forgive me... way past my bedtime when writing this.

@16bitmonster:

Wow. Now that you mention it, I'm kind of shocked at my own headline when you put it THAT way. Really, that wasn't even close to what I was thinking.

They're really trying hard for japan but considering a lot of that is multiplat(and square enix hasn't been a chart topper for a while now) this probably won't do much to sway japan (kudos to them for trying though, In the past they kinda just gave up).

And I don't know why but I was expecting some major bomb to be droped from this conference, well there's still E3 so I guess they're not gonna do anything to drastic with that around the corner(but dammit MS your making it really difficult to write E3 expectations here).

Some of the games listed look good (as many have said, Garou), it seems lots of them are multi-platform, already announced or just plain old news. Giving them Mass Effect is better than not doing so, but it feels like they padded the list so much that I think it would have been better had they just announced the new/exclusive stuff.

Ball's in your court, Sony. Up the ante.

Thought they already had with this year's exclusive lineup?

I think this is Microsoft's ante for pushing into Japan, and honestly it is a very week ante on their part. Most of the standalone games are coming out on PS3 as well and the majority of those games are XBLA games, which isn't really that big of a reason to pick up a console.
megaStryke's Avatar
megaStryke at 04/21/2009 09:44
Mega Man 9 was exclusive to the Wii in Japan until now. I guess Capcom didn't think the PS3 and 360 folks would pick it up. Seems like they changed their minds. That would mean expect a PSN announcement soon as well.

Well, 17 of them are either already out or LONG ago announced for US release, 4 of them look to be interesting, and the other 9 are King of Fighters games which at best are crappy versions of Street Fighter games.

Color me extremely unimpressed.

The more important question is, how can we get our hands on part of the million free MS Points? Is it Japan only?

@Nick Chester

I don't know how editing an article works, but it would have been great if you changed the title the moment you realized how the title could sound to some people.
